Basic Car Movement?
Archive: 5 posts
Hi all, I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm looking to make my first top-down racer and I was wondering if I could get some help as to how the car can be made to move. I've put a controllonator in place and managed to get a car that could be controlled by Rotation(Right stick) + Left/Right/Up/Down Movement. As you know, this isn't very car like. It was more akin to a spaceship than a car. :/ Can anyone give me basic instructions on how to map out a car with a controllonator....cheers. UB3R | 2011-06-16 12:13:00 Author: Unknown User |
Hi. Although i haven't yet tried my luck to a top down racer, i am quite confident you should use a mover connected to a button for thrust, placed on the car pointing at the front of it (the upper arrow) and set the local space to on. For turning, you should use a rotator, better i think only turning left & right but you could sill use your current joystick rotator. Adjusting the movers speed, power and decceleration will be a trial and error affair to get the feel right. Getting a bit far, placing and adjusting material and gravity tweakers might give a more convincing feeling or an opportunity for more complex gameplay. Ermm.. in short connecting the X button to the afformentioned movers up input (if its advanced for a start) and the analog joystick left right to a rotator seems a good start for experiment. Hope that will help you get going until someone with more experience comes up. | 2011-06-16 17:41:00 Author: zupaton Posts: 167 |
Thank you mate, getting the grasp of it now | 2011-06-17 01:52:00 Author: Unknown User |
For a more complex driving model... You could have gravity dampeners on each of the four tires and activate/deactivate them to simulate grip depending on speed, throttle and wheel angle, e.g. you turn right and unload the right-side tires at higher speeds. Not sure if that'd work or not. | 2011-06-17 03:25:00 Author: Ayneh Posts: 2454 |
I don't have the links ready, but I recall plenty of good (YouTube) tutorials on how to build a realistic car. I think this iss one of the first and most popular things people did after LBP2 just got out. | 2011-06-17 12:03:00 Author: Antikris Posts: 1340 |
