Admin Help!
Archive: 9 posts
I'm having a really weird issue with LBPCentral.com; I'm at work, browsing through a proxy (www.sefreak.com); I've spoken with the admins on the proxy and they assure me that nothing is wrong... How-ever; I cannot seem to access any of the forums/Threads on this site except for this one - the only link that works for me is Genral Media - all other sections just take me to a blank white page. The admins of the proxy say they can access it from their end... so are blaming lbpcentral.com; Can anyone figure out what's going down? Edit: after posting this, once I clicked "save" instead of taking me to this newly created thread, it jumped me to the "Sackbook" thread in the news & media section?! Something weird is going on?! | 2011-06-16 11:28:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
Hey, I've directed this to the folks that can help for the time being. I'm also leaving your thread here since you can't view other forums. Stay tuned, someone will be in touch. | 2011-06-16 13:09:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |
Nice one Schm0! It's still playing up. I bet once I type this post, it'll be redirecting me to the "SackBook" thread :? Edit: Well at least it redirected me to the correct thread this time... - UN/PW combo for sefreak.com is "student/random1" Would be very greatfull an admin could test the access through that proxy. Cheers Screenshot of what I see in every forum except General Media: http://i55.photobucket.com/albums/g140/gairns/lbp.jpg So Bizarre?! Why would it not load any forum page except the General Media forum?! | 2011-06-16 16:07:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
Proxies aren't allowed on LBPC. If a proxy is detected it's meant to redirect you to here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=6863-Web-Proxy-Detected) (though it doesn't). If you have been redirected here, then we have automatically detected that you are using a web proxy. Web proxies are frequently used to circumvent an IP ban, so we have to ensure web proxies are not allowed on the site. Sorry for the annoyance, but it has to be done. That could be why it's redirecting you to the Sackbook thread, maybe it's just redirecting to the wrong thread? | 2011-06-16 16:38:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |
I wasn't aware of the NO PROXIES rule.. because without proxies I'm stuffed. I've been using this proxy for weeks without issue :? Maybe I shouldn't have admitted that - but what can I say - I'm too honest for my own good Edit: this time it redirected me to "1.05" thread in the news & media section ? If proxies are banned, then fair enough - but IP Ban circumnavigation isn;t the only use for a proxy - what about us ordinary posters sitting behind a strict firewall? ... but the admins may want to check out the redirects | 2011-06-16 17:19:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
Hah, and they said we didn't need admin. On topic, have you tried a different proxy or is it just that one? | 2011-06-16 17:26:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
Hah, and they said we didn't need admin. On topic, have you tried a different proxy or is it just that one? Good point. I had actually only tried the proxy that had previously worked. I just tried with a different proxy (sorry confusedcartman!) and it works! So must be the sefreak.com proxy I'm using. That's the last time I take the word of an admin! | 2011-06-16 17:50:00 Author: Macnme Posts: 1970 |
No system is perfect, after all. And just because CC isn't on 24/7 doesn't mean we need a new admin. | 2011-06-16 18:57:00 Author: schm0 Posts: 1239 |
First off, I don't believe our proxy redirect system actually works anymore. We've upgraded since we installed it - it wasn't actually designed for this version of the forums. However, we don't actively support proxies either, for exactly the reasons you encountered. They simply make browsing too unpredictable for us to worry about supporting them. If you hadn't found another solution, there's literally nothing we could have done on our end to fix it. If our site loads fine without a proxy, then fails to load with a proxy, then it's the proxy that's causing the problem, not us. That said, I'm glad you found a solution, and I'm equally glad to hear that it works fine using this new proxy. That's more verification that the problem doesn't lie with us. | 2011-06-16 20:46:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
