First time creating a level: Mirror's Edge

Archive: 3 posts

Hey guys,
This is my first time creating a level and I thought I would share my experience. Here I will put solutions to problems I have encountered and ask questions if I need to... I am aiming to recreate Mirror's Edge as closely as possible. I have chosen the first level of the game as my first level in LBP, if everything goes well, I will make all the other levels...

First of all, Mirror's Edge is parkour or freerunning game. The setting is mostly rooftops, although there are levels where you go to the street or inside buildings. You do encounter enemies in this game, and I will make enemies that you can kill... The biggest problem I have is I don't have the game, so I'm following videos on Youtube.

Here is the first problem and only so far I encountered:
1) The game is 3D while LBP is what I would call 2.5D, so even though you turn left in the real game, you keep going straight in my levels.

I have started the level and will keep going after I finish typing this... You will be able to win items I have created for the level such as a solar panel, and I give you full permission to use it in your level as long as I get credited...

Thanks for looking and I will update soon... If you have any suggestions/comments/questions, feel free to say so...

If you make it in LBP2 instead, you could use a "Faith" Sackbot as the main character; that way you could modify it to perform parkour moves and keep the theme of the level. (If you don't like the idea of forcing the player to look how you want them, you can simply set the sackbot to copy the user.)

If you don't have LBP2, I don't think you should worry anyway because it shouldn't be too complicated. Just try to keep the pace and aesthetics as Mirrors Edge-like as possible (this is important!)

As for the level thing, that's fine. it doesn't have to be 1:1 with the original so long as it's true in spirit. (And ME is mostly linear so it shouldn't matter much anyway)

Let us know how it goes, and Good luck!

Hawk i think you mis understood him, he said he did not have Mirrors Edge, he has LBP2.

Anyways, i would help you but i got alot on my plate right now, i am sure you can make it good, and like said before use sackbots. Look at tutorials for how to make special things involving impact sensors so that you can do things like wall jumps and wall runs, etc. Good luck, and keep us updated, parkour is very fun.

All that being said, feel free to add me and i can help you from time to time. I specialize in logic, and menu design mainly.
