The Legend of Zelda II: Parapa Palace

Archive: 35 posts

Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) The Legend of Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. 1988 ??

Go through the first palace (Parapa Palace) in a Hack N Slash RPG, this stage/dungeon/palace is a maze as portrayed in the game. It is an exact replica for little Linkbot Sackboy set in a Modern Style (nothing 8-bit), You fight the same enemies as you encounter in the actual game, Iron Knuckles, Stalfos, Horsehead and much more...
You start off with 3 Heart Containers that get munched in half when hit, you recover health using Potions laying in the Palace floors
O is the attack, slashing in the direction you were last facing of course
R1 is to grab the Elevator Switch and the Fairy of course
[ ] basically opens Pop-It, DON'T "Suicide" Yourself, BAD IDEA, reason why I didn't disable Pop-It was so you can talk to players using Text Chat
/ opens up the Menu, you can see your Heart Count there and check on how many Skeleton Keys you have (future games will have Potion slot and Magic)
X is your jump

GET READY TO RELIVE THE GLORY

I RECOMMEND THIS STAGE TO EVERYONE, ESPECIALLY ZELDA FANS TOO, IT MAY NOT BE 8-Bit BUT IT'S TRUE TO ITS FORM
I GUARANTEE YOU'LL BE HAPPY WITH THE HARD WORK I'VE PUT INTO MAKING THIS STAGE, 1 YEAR IN THE MAKING AND SO FAR MY BEST STAGE ON LBP COMMUNITY

Time Elapsed: 1 YEAR in the making

SPECIAL THANKS TO xXSoloDuckXx & VampyreKai & sebas0gab1 & Silverfang2009 Team!! Thank you o0DemonBoy0o for music!!! Version 3.3.

Just played it.

I'm not really well informed about Zelda so don't know how close you've got it or what its really suppose to look like so anything i say may not fit with your idea.
I thought the gameplay was ok as was the hit system and i liked the hearts as health from what i can tell they are true to zelda. The music was good it sounds like it right.

For a none zelda fan this level felt a little empty and open though as its a sackboy remake of an old 8-bit game i'm sure the fans will appreciate it.
Iwas thinking that seeing as its suppose to be a 2d 8-bit remake maybe you should only have one layer to move on as it will give the feel of an old zelda game from the days.

Good concept none the less.

Thanks for playing
yeah, at first, the initial concept was to have one layer, but then I had trouble with the elevators, so from there I decided to dish out the 3 layers.
it does pay great homage to the original in terms of what it looks like, except the 8-bit stuff xD
but like this you can see a more Modern Day Zelda feel to it, I'm sure the non-Zelda and Zelda fan will appreciate the work I've done so far
I do plan to put somewhat of a background eventually, maybe put up a few curtains or something like in the original, i just recently put up a Menu, more for display, all it does is show you the Hearts the same as the ones following Link and other details, it shows you the keys you have collected thus far. I plan on putting Potions so you can heal on the road. But that's for later on.

All of the costumes look great. The rest of the scenery is pretty bland however, but that's how 8-bit games were. For the most part combat worked rather well. However, most of the enemies attacks had no sufficient way of showing whether you had been damaged or not, and they also continued to attack me a split second after I killed them, thus often getting cheap attacks on me. Other than that it was fun, and I've never played Legend of Zelda II, so I can't judge how good of a remake it is.2011-06-15 23:39:00

I just checked this out, and its not bad. The menu is cool and from what I saw the layout looked great. Although I think it would be much more fun if Link didn't stop walking whenever he attacks. It felt like I spent more time stopping and going than anything else. Otherwise cool stuff 2011-06-16 04:40:00

Yeah, the Stalfos did the cheapshot attacks the most, I didn't like that either, but working the program setting was tiring enough so I left it like that, I figured to call it "Death Strike" since the Stalfos is a skeleton either way, get it
I'm glad you thought the stage was fun

The menu I thought might play a huuuuuge role in future games like my Zelda II, (whatever the next palace is called XD) and my Faxanadu stage, so I made a prototype.
If I'm not mistaken, I should be able to remodify the Linkbot to where he "fought" as he did in the old game, that is, without stopping every few seconds when he strikes. It will take a while but I'll see what I can do, I had help building the Linkbot, the Second Linkbot will be much better in the next Palaces. But I guarantee a new one for this stage. Just give me some time.
I'm glad you enjoyed the level.

Nice level, as I usually do when I play level's I was scouging for ideas for mine and beyond me searching for ideas I discovered a truly great level that pays homage to the original Zelda Game, kudos to you sir. Although if you don't play many Zelda Game's you might feel a slight feeling of emptyness.2011-06-17 04:11:00

Thank you, classic move on the "scouging for ideas", I do that too most of the time, haha XD
True what you say in the ending of, a slight feel of emptyness, I want to try to fill that, but I find it tough as I also wanna keep the classic in touch at least.

I played this and liked it quite a bit! I really like the "Palace" song... and wait.. I think I got the "Wind Waker Intro" sequencer from your level Rixsch.. that particular song is called "The Legendary Hero" Sorry but I am a HUGE Zelda fan and liked your improved recreation and can't wait to see more!.. I just wish someone would make a top down Zelda game since pretty much all of them but Zelda 2 are XD I'm thinking of starting a project like that with its own story It would be cool if you included your own story with this recreation as well seeing as Zelda stories are... rather lacking. :/ especially the NES ones.2011-06-23 20:20:00

Thanks Dortr, right now I'm working on a few cameras to see if I can add a different flavor to a particular stage, not to sure how that may end up. Actually, I'm also thinking of recreating the OVERWORLD of Zelda II and use it as a hub to get to the palaces, it might take a long while though to get everybit of detail and stuff.
I have another NES stage actually that I just recently re-published, The Super Sackboy Bros. this stage plays homage to Super Mario Bros. the stage though needs heavy modifications in terms of special sackbot checkpoints and enemies, also, I think I forgot to attach the Level Link XD
In terms of the topic of Zelda, I don't think I'll ever make a storyline for it :/
but I will be making the other palaces along with upgrades.
I'm also currently working on a Sonic The Hedgehog stage, also more modern that these 16-bit ones people have made.
Almost done is my Gateway stage, which is inspired from the PORTAL Series, but uses different mechanics and this one, actually will have a storyline.
On another side note, something totally unrelated is my Sky Kingdom Series, a Hack N Slash RPG with a Storyline, a 5 part stage actually, depending on the Tech Specs of the stages.

Hi! Just played your level:

Pros:
- The retro looking.
- The costumes of Link and enemies.
- The life bar that follows you (that's something simple but I like it).

Cons:
- Maybe 3 hearts is too few life... or the enemies are so difficult for me, because they kill me often.

You could have used more "bit graphics" (not only in the menu, but also in the whole level) but that way is cool, there are so many levels in the LBP2 Community with "bit" effects hehe

Please leave me feedback at my level https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=56955-Math-Millionaire-Quiz

Thank you for your feedback, yes, at one point I thought 3 hearts was too few, but then I thought it was because of the "Stall" movement Linkbot had, I removed that, so now Link slashes in a quicker manner without stopping, just be sure to slash "1 Sackbot Away From Enemy", the enemies are a bit tough, cause they were a headache to handle in Zelda II, Horsehead I believe just got tougher. I added something to him, He was toooo easy to take out. I'm working on a potion also from the menu, where you'll be able to heal with a press of the button, you'll only be able to heal if you have a potion in stock. Don't worry, as you go through game, you'll have more hearts and even magic, etc.

Not really a Zelda fan, but good job with this recreation.

Thanks, took me a while to get this set, I've been working on it since LBP, but when LBP2 came out, even more options, especially with the Sackbot. Then not too long after I decided to bring the palace down and reshape it using the grid, something i didn't think of before. Now the stage is set, all I'm waiting for now is to introduce everyone to the new LINKbot.

The NEW LINKbot is almost ready for use, going under the final stages

The Menu System is getting a new touch up with a certain item

The Elevators are being reconfigured to be hands free from the R1 button

These Final Three UPDATES when finalized will mark the stage as FINAL

Thank you, I can see you're a Retro Creator Curator yourself, I'll be happy to try your stages if I haven't yet, I'm a big fan of the 8-bit and 16-bit worlds out there, an inspiration for my more modernized style of the classics. Although my Zelda stage is not finalized, hopefully I'll get to finalizing it before the 1 Year Anniversary of my stage. XD

I've played the level earlier that day and i liked it.
As i've written in the review, you could change 2 things that annoyed me a little bit!
1. Already dead enemy killed me.
2. Life needs to refilled at other places, where they're needed more.

My rating for your level: 9/10

I got rid of the "Death Strike" from the enemies, so no more of that, and the potions, I haven't noticed much, but I think I know 2 spots that could have 2 more potions due to critical life situations
