Sackbots and grappling hooks!!???...

hey everyone....im working a level in which i was planning on having sackbots use grappling hooks...then my dreams were crushed as sackbots cant use them!!?? i find this to be ridiculous since then can use grabinators and creatinators so why not a grappling hook? makes no sense to me..am i missing something?

anyway, the sackbots using a grappling hook was going to be incorporated into a cool idea on my level..ive worked around it but i was wondering if it is at all possible to make sackbots be able to use a grappling hook!??

Sadly, no it's not possible. I had an idea a while back that would have required it, but my dreams were squashed as well. I may go back to it after I finish what I'm working on now, if I can think of a different way to do it.2011-06-13 23:13:00

The reason for this is because sackbots are only meant as simple A.I. objects that allow you to program them to do complex things. All MM needs to worry about is making them go up and down and left and right. You could use movers to move them diagonally, but they can't do that themselves. They can move diagonally by doing up/ down movements plus right/left movements, but they aren't designed like sackboy to have up, down, left, right and diagonal movements. Sackbots would be huge thermo absorber if they could go in all directions and be able to use more complex power-ups like the grappling hook and jetpack.2011-06-14 22:47:00

I do believe there are some community levels that give away sackbot grappling hooks, and if you dont want to copy them, you could look at the logic, and make your own, possibly better version?2011-06-15 22:13:00

No, you aren't. My dreams were crushed as well when thinking of a "Mr. Aah!" game for LBP2, except sackbots can't use grappling hooks. I thought of a way around it (sackbot grab onto emitted rope, which was glitch attached to another sackbot offscreen that was grabbing onto a sponge offscreen) but it was very tedious.

ah it sucks. because for one of the levels i am working on i was thinking of making the player use a sackbot so they can take the form of the character in the story but the character requires the use of a grappling hook...but obviously now i know this can't be done. but i dont understand whats so complex about a power up like the grappling hook. ive looked online and the most the custom grappling hooks...although creative...just aint that good.2011-06-16 20:00:00

It well and truely sucks that sackbots can't use grapple hooks, I agree. But if you're talking about how sackbots would grapple over landscape to follow something, wouldn't they not be used in the first place? I don't think a follow A.I sackbot ever uses grab to get to where it wants to be, only by controllinator.

If a sackbot was allowed to use the grappling hook you can always make sequenced ouputs onto the R1 button in a transmitter controllinator, and then ouputs on the left analog stick to swing left and right, reel in etc. provided you have the logic to do it. Why make loads of hassle?
