Will there be an LBP3?

Archive: 29 posts

Do you think Mm will make a third LittleBigPlanet.

In my opinion, no. There is hardly much more to add to LittleBigPlanet 2, and anything they need to add can easily be released in an update or DLC.

The only way I see another LBP is LBP PSP 2, and even then it's very unlikely, because LBP PSP already uses all of the PSP's processor power.

But that's sad because if there would be an LBP3 it would be made of pure EPICNESS. But LBP2 is already pure EPICNESS,

People said the same about LBP1, that nothing could really be added. Where then LBP2 came along and proved the majority wrong...

As for LBP2 on PSP, that's already happening. (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=57808-LBP-Confirmed-for-PSVita) (Just not exactly on PSP.)

I'd imagine that if there were a LBP3, it would be on a future console or something.

There will be a LBP 3 maybe not until the PS4 but there will be another sequel.2011-06-12 20:15:00

I think they'll make LBP3 as a launch title for the PS4(or whatever it'll be called).2011-06-12 21:31:00

Does it really matter?
If there isn't, then we'll keep playing LBP2, and if there is, people are gonna buy it, even if they're completely against it and hate the very idea of it. xD

Really? you can't think of things they could add? AHahaaHa!
Duh they'll make a 3nd one. But I'm more then sure they'll wait until PS4.
It'll have new highgrad graphics and all kinds of awesome stuff you can't begin to think of.
I'm looking forward to it... A lot~ And LBP2 is still to limiting for my liking~

This. I can't believe that people don't think there will be a third game.

What could they add in the first place? It would take years even if MM had a full-time brainstorming department.2011-06-13 22:42:00

they're making a sequel for PS Vita.

also, I can think of multiple additions. maybe things that we find impossible to make now- or things that take a heckload of programming; but then they could pack it all into a lag-proof microchip.

Off the top of my head:
- encloseable/placeable water
- four thick layers, not three
- bouncy/bendy materials
- online play support for more then four players
...or just look through the Suggestions forum for a zillion other things which could be added to the game. Adding isn't the only concern of course; bugfixes and refinement are just as important.

That's just three which would take an enormous increase in processing power/tighter code to run.

I agree with the others above; the mammoth success of LBP1/2 guarantees that there will be a third (and probably fourth, fifth, and so on). Sony owns the rights to the IP that Mm developed, and transnational entertainment conglomerates are not exactly known for their reticence when it comes to milking a cash cow dry, grinding up the shriveled corpse, and marketing the result as a milk substitute.

The question is not "Will there be an LBP3?" it is "When will LBP3 be released?"

My guess? #1 launch title for PS4, Christmas 2012. Look for rumours about the next PS console to start hitting around next Octoberish, and a formal announcement at E3 next year confirming a shipping date coinciding with the day after American Thanksgiving. Then look for the biggest most massive marketing blitz in Mm's history.

i see this question asked too much to the point of being annoying so let me just squeeze my thoughts in here...

No one, not even Mm, can say if there will be a LBP3. and if there is going to be a LBP3 then they will wait untill LBP2 has reached its full potional before even anouncing it. Besides, they have a new game on PSvita. Thats practicaly LBP3 anyways!

No one, not even Mm, can say if there will be a LBP3.

Anyone with the slightest amount of common sense and the barest understanding of how mainstream media conglomerates work can, indeed, say there will be an LBP3 the same way there will one day be another Zelda, another Mario, another Halo, etc. It is the nature of large corporations to squeeze as much money out of any given intellectual property as they can.

It's really simple. Sony owns LBP. Mm doesn't. Sony is run by people with MBAs, people who use words like 'bottom line' and 'prioritize action items' and 'first shipment sales' and 'increase shareholder value.' These people do not give a flying pig about whether a given entertainment product is good, artistic, whatever. They care about whether they can make it sell, and what the absolute minimum spend they can do for the maximum ROI (return on investment).

That's all. There is no other concern. When you are dealing solely with smaller ('independent&apos companies, they have the freedom and desire to only make good things--this is how Mm developed LBP (well, Yellow Head guy) in the first place; a bunch of completely bonkers people doing something they loved and luckily someone at Sony realised exactly how much money could be made from it.

Publicly-traded companies must increase shareholder value. This causes stock price to go up, and everyone wins. Failing to produce a sequel to two of the most successful (especially when it comes to mainstream success, and grabbing new market share in traditionally-underrepresented demo segments) games of the last few years would not only not increase shareholder value, it could potentially open Sony up to shareholder lawsuits, alleging negligence on the part of the Board and/or C-level (CEO, CFO, CTO, etc) staff.

Plus it would just be stupid. Unless previews for the putative LBP3 were so horrifically bad (like, say, E.T for the Atari, which was so bad they simply bulldozed tens of thousands of copies into a trench in the desert somewhere) that nobody would buy it, there is a guaranteed market of several hundred thousand people who will buy LBP3 no matter what. Add on top of that a whole new set of people who never got into LBP1/2, and you have a licence to print money.

Sorry to smack you down so harshly, but it really irks me when people with no basic knowledge of business spout off so erroneously.

Is it Sony's biggest money spinner where DLC is concerned?2011-06-14 01:32:00

I bet it's a pretty big one, julesy. Lots of younger kids play it, the DLC is cheap (and exactly what they want: costumes and bloody stickers from other video games), with a huge profit margin and a very easy "but Mum it's only $2.99...."2011-06-14 03:13:00

Hopefully LBP will have proper 3D environments - rather than the 2&1/2-D 3-layers we have just now.

That'd be awesome.

If I were a betting man (which I'm not), I would certainly put money on them releasing LBP3

I'm not sure that full-3D would be a good move. Part of the charm is the vague retroness of the side-scrolling platformer.

Plus if you've ever tried modeling anything in a 3D environment (as someone untrained in the field I mean), it's hell.

If they do add 3D, they better make it so 2.5 is still a option when creating a level.
kinda like how the Game Sonic generations has both 3D and 2.5D levels.
3D levels for New age Sonic and 2.5D levels for Classic Sonic.
because I know for sure i don't want to be forced to make bloody full 3D levels. I'm a fan of side-scrolling.
not that other stuff. But having the option of both be sweet~ *mew

I can think on many features for lbp3

First of all, lbp2 STILL doesn't have that melee power-up most of us want, and the special shields for different leathel materials.

I'd like to see Waterproof Sackbots, too, and teleporters.

And some more stuff with water, like freezing it or replacing it with lava as an option.

And i'm pretty sure most of us don't want to do the extra layers glitch as a glitch anymore, c'mon MM, make it a feature.

And of course, bigger pods, I'd also would like to have little pets for sackboys, too.

And having the option to switch to 2D to free-roaming 3D mode

Anyways, theres many other stuff that can be added to LBP3 if you think.

I personally am hoping for something totally different to the other LBP's, Not like the leap from 1 to 2, But totally reinventing the wheel. I've got no idea what it could involve, Maybe a more gritty PC version, 3D (Gameplay wise), But no matter what I doubt it's going too release in the foreseeable future, Probably as people have said, PS4.2011-06-14 19:21:00

Also i more then bet it won't be called LBP3.
As if you notice they only called LBP2 two because LBP1 was already on the same game system.
look at the PSP LBP. it's just called LBP. and the same is being done for the LBP for PSV.
The PS4 LBP will also just be called LBP, Funny no? *mew

Of course they will get something incredible to new game. I was really surprised how different LBP 2 was. I was excepting like better graphics and few more power-ups and something like that but they made many awesome things there . And I am pretty sure they will surprise me in future too.2011-06-14 19:29:00

When it comes out, i definitely don't think it'll disappoint us. It's a long time a way and a long time for them to think of new things to add and have it be the best game it can be... hopefully.2011-06-14 20:58:00

I quite agree with Roux-. If there is really, really going to be an LBP3, then it will probably be desperately making Mm throw it together. I'm not too sure if I really want to get LBP3 if/when it comes out, I just feel Sony would grow LBP right out of it's LBP-ish feel with LBP3 after adding a bunch of features. (Although i said this when LBP2 was announced, I'd probably be changing my mind soon after ).2011-06-14 22:11:00

I really don't think the PS4 is that far away. Console generations seem to be around 6-8 years between iterations. We're due for the next upgrade, but I think this time that the Xbox upgrade will lag behind PS by a year.
