HELP Upgrading HD without losing LBP progress and saves?
Archive: 6 posts
Hi, i'm upgrading my 80GB PS3 by replacing the HD with a new 640GB disk. i've seen some folks say that if i use the PS3 Backup & Restore Utility, ALL games EXCEPT for LBP1 & 2 will get transferred to the new blank HD? is this true - do i need to do something special to ensure my LBP 1 & 2 saves, progress, etc. are transferred? NOTE: i have 3 users on my system, each with LBP 1 and 2 game info. thks! | 2011-06-12 00:43:00 Author: Unknown User |
If you have a iPod or a memory stick, you can just backup everything on that | 2011-06-12 00:48:00 Author: ballisticola Posts: 157 |
If you have a iPod or a memory stick, you can just backup everything on that not quite sure what you are saying? 1- are you confirming that using the PS3 complete Backup & Restore Utility will NOT bring across all the needed LBP files? 2- if the above is indeed true, what should i manually transfer? (there are lots of LBP files in both the GAME DATA and SAVE DATA directories in the XMB for each user account) | 2011-06-12 07:13:00 Author: Unknown User |
Full PS3 back up does bring necessary data and will be no problem, I reccomend deleting all your "game data" (Not save data") as that takes the most GBs out of your PS3 most of the times. Also, since we got PS+ for a month, you could just back up your LBP save data on the cloud storage, and download it back on your new HDD, that should work to if I'm not mistaken. Hope that helps! | 2011-06-12 08:23:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
What Silverleon said. But there's a caveat, do NOT delete LBP game data!! LBP's ordinary save data no longer covers all the player information. LBP was once patched so players could store more information, but this was possible using Game Data for the player profile! Do *not* delete LBP game data! What you need to do is to export your profile. It works really well. You'll then re-import on the new HDD. Full backup and restore can work if you do not delete your LBP game data, but sometimes the backup process constantly crashes. Not only that, when restoring, it may still give errors. That's what happened to me, I would have lost all my saves if I hadn't manually backed up stuff. In LBP2 (and I believe LBP) you can export your profile, and copy the exported profile data that can be found in gamesave data to a usb stick, or upload it to PSN+ cloud. It works flawlessly. I constantly copied my stuff so I could keep working on my bro's PS3, and when I finish there, I exported on his PS3, came back to my PS3, and kept on working from where I left. And I have also brought my stuff to a brand new slim along the way. | 2011-06-12 13:03:00 Author: hesido Posts: 166 |
Yeah, this is what I meant I just back up (in game this is) each level I've created everyday, as well as my profile (which is in Settings, when you pause) and copy it on my iPod | 2011-06-12 15:56:00 Author: ballisticola Posts: 157 |
