A computer for gaming

Archive: 3 posts

Hello! I'm planning on buying a new computer as a local store's own package. Could you help me compare these products? The sites are in Finnish but you can see the parts.

For how long can I run games on high settings with these ones? Are there big differences between them? Would you change any particular parts?
Here are some of my options:

This one's a lot more expensive, is there a great difference in comparison to the other two? http://www.lapstore.fi/product_info....ducts_id=44254 (http://www.lapstore.fi/product_info.php?cPath=56_10&products_id=44254)

Going off the processors alone, I'd go for the intel core i5 one. I've heard that AMD Athlons aren't anywhere near as powerful as an intel processor. Their is the I7 core processor which is obviously better than the i5. You can also get dual/quad core processors which have two/four processors in one, which are probably even better than them.

I'm not FULLY up on pc hardware, but that's what I've been told by someone I know who builds computers.

I agree with dbiddy about the processors. Also while one of the set-ups has 8GB of ram compared to 4 in the other, I read a fairly in-depth article recently that tested different amounts of RAM and while 1GB wasn't enough, once you went above 2 you didn't get that much of an increase in performance unless you're opening 40 firefox tabs or perhaps using multiple instances of a memory-intensive graphics editing software. Even if that was the case, 4GB would probably be enough.

I'm not sure about AMD gfx cards versus ATI but I've had good experiences with ATIs in the past. My word is far from gospel though so I'm sure someone else could give you a better idea.

EDIT: Sorry just saw the third link. As far as I can tell, the ram in the most expensive one is slower than the ram in the others, being 1333 rather than 1600MHz. The graphics card is 1500mb rather than 1000mb though and the processor is an i7... still my gut feeling is that an extra 500 euro is too expensive for the upgrade you get in components. Again I'd wait for someone else who has better knowledge of processors, ram and gfx cards and how they all work together to give you a better idea of which will give the best performance.

EDIT 2: Also the most expensive one had a solid state drive... which I would think is unnecessary but may account for the price, they're quite expensive.
