Any horror level fans out there?

Archive: 32 posts

Hello everyone! I was wondering if there are people in this forum who enjoy playing horror themed levels.

You know, things like Dead Space, Silent Hill, Fatal Frame. That kind of horror.

I was wondering this because I have noticed the absence of these kind of levels in LBP2. And I'm not just saying a simple horror level, I mean something GOOD. I have decided to work on a horror level series that I will be posting very soon, It's going to focus on lot's of fun gameplay, shivering music, and some scary moments of course. There's more to it, but I don't want to spoil the details.

Oh yeah, I was also wondering if is there anyone out there who also likes to create creepy levels of anything related .

I'm a huge fan of Horror. Both Games (i used to love Resident Evil back then, when it was actually an HORROR game and not a crappy mainstream ACTION) and LBP Levels.
Unfortunately, it's really hard to make a scary level in LBP, due to the nature of the game.
But i made some levels with Horror atmosphere and elements. They're on my old account and they're really outdated...
(Search "Rise of Undeath", they are 2 levels)

I really love making Horror levels, it's fun to make a dark and creepy atmosphere, even if it isn't scary, i think Horror themed levels have the best atmosphere of them all.

Woot, that's great! Oh yeah, I forgot to mention Resident Evil too, hehe. I wish I could give you a link for LBP horror levels that are actually quite scary (some even made me jump, haha), but sadly, they no longer exist. Anyways, I'll let you know when I start releasing the first level of my horror series. You can try a level I made called Hellville Hotel. Its about a haunted hotel you must escape by doing a key puzzle(like Dino Crisis).

Definitely another horror fan here! I was also wondering if there were more horror fans around! I'm almost always on the lookout for good horror levels; if you check through my hearted list, you'll be able to find a hefty amount of horror levels that I particularly enjoyed. Of course, not all of them are horror or are of great quality and some may not even be scary at all, but it all depends on one's experiences with scary things right? Plus, I hearted some of those levels just so I could come back to them easily. If you know of more horror levels that are truly scary in your opinion, please let me know! Give my sanity a test.

I'd love to make an actual scary level on LBP someday, but I lack the inspiration as of right now. Plus the fear of being moderated lingers in the back of my head...I don't really regard my Devon series as horror levels, but people have labeled them to be on the scary side. You can check them out if you want, but it's really not that scary at all...at least not to me...

Have you already played though Tenement by Ungreth? I've only played through the LBP2 version and it was the first horror level that actually made me very nervous and paranoid, which is hard to do to me considering I play a number of other horror games too. This level sticks out to me so much as well, but I'm sure there are many more scary levels of its caliber.

xXdeliriumxX's levels are pretty creepy, particularly "the cursed", iv'e created a creepy ( i hope) level, called " call to darkness" ,has an amazing 32 plays last time i checked. Im a big fan of horror too, ever played Dead Space 2 on hardcore mode at night with volume up? the fact that if you die you have to start all over makes it extra intense!2011-06-11 22:21:00

Ah yes, The Cursed is a great example of a good LBP horror level. Its the kind of style I use on my own horror levels. And yes, Dead Space 2 gets intense at night. I tried it with my home theater and oh boy... lol.

The ending part of my level A Nucleotrosity was often tagged as "creepy" in LBP1. Probably more so now that I've remade the entire thing. It's not really scary though... unless you have a fear of being inside a falling nuke, or being murdered horribly by mutant sackthings.

I personally don't like games that are entirely about horror unless there is an interesting enough plot to keep me with it. However, I always appreciate a little bit of well done and well placed horror in my movies/games. It changes the pace in an enjoyable way, and is really beneficial to the narrative.

I love R-type. I even made a beta system that imitates the gameplay of R-type, but those are plans for the future. I have to finish my horror level fist.

By the way, I saw some of your published levels in LBP.me and they seem to be horror themed too. I'll give them a look later.

Thank you, yeah all my published lbp2 levels atm have a dark or gory theme, but the level im working on is alot brighter, i don't want to be typecast as the guy who makes dark levels lol. I set all my lbp1 levels to just lbp1 though, so on lbp2 only two levels are playable, that R type system sounds very interesting, have you made a working force?

Im pretty sure you've all seen it already, but Afraid by SpiderMaguire was moderated because of a scary face that frightened younger kids. It was recently put back up with a newer, less scary, but scarier than the LBP monster kit sticker face. (Sorry if that was confusing). Has to be one of the best horror levels to date, and Im pretty sure that hes almost done the second Afraid.
I highly reccommend checking it out if you love horror levels as much as me.

I'd really enjoy some LBP horror levels. IMO, the best creators are those that inspire real emotion, so it's a shame we're limited by what the targeted demographic is. Going to have to check out those suggested here, since I haven't seen many yet.

Perhaps something could be added that recognizes the age of the PSN user based on their registration age.

I had an entire horror level planned out in my head. BUT, then Afriad came into my head... IT WAS MODERATED!!! [ warning words in red show explicit anger, whatever explicit means ]

IT WAS MODERATED BECAUSE A STUPID 2 YEAR OLD GOT SCARED OF A FREAKING FACE!!!!! I MEAN COME ON! IT SAID 50 FREAKING TIMES THIS WASNT RECOMMENDED FOR 2 YEAR OLDS AND THAT IT WAS SCARY!!! I MEAN COME ON!! WHY HAVE THE WORTHLESS "scary " TAG IF YOU CANT HAVE A FREAKING "SCARY" LEVEL?!

I'm sorry for freaking our right there, so ya... because of the 2 year olds i will not be making a true horror anytime soon

I would love to see THE FACE, lol. Could you upload any pictures of it and post them?

Thats a real shame. Everytime i come into lbp i worry about my meat factory level being modded, which would mark the end of my days on lbp. Whats worse is you get no warning or anything, you should get a message saying what should be changed and if its not changed by X amount of time it will be removed.2011-06-13 18:15:00

If anything, my levels would be moderated for having themes that are too mature (not in a sexual or just all around inappropriate way) for an E or E10+ rating. Even then, none of my levels are like that. (except possibly A Nucleotrosity, as people are turned into mutants, you are tricked into fixing everything only to be betrayed and dropped with a nuke on an unsuspecting city, and possibly ripped to shreds by mutants. No one has yet found the happy ending I put in.)2011-06-13 22:58:00

I played meat factory. I wouldn't consider it an offensive level for it to be moderated. There's no surprise demon attacks of anything like that. Its mostly an entertaining level where you have to find your way out of the meatiness... and murder rabbits.

And I'm going to add your level to my playlist, lol. Thanks to this tread I have discovered a couple of talented horror level creators. It's so hard to find good scary levels, specially when there's so many rubbish "Friday the 13'th" levels out there.

Was that targeted towards Vanok or SpiderMaguire? I believe Vanok is talking about the movie Afraid by SpiderMaguire that Grayspence mentioned up above. Here's the link to the movie before the moderation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ut7_4nvZD6k) (Someone correct me on this if this isn't the one). Unfortunately, I saw Afraid when it had that Monster Level Kit sticker as the face, so it wasn't as scary as I had hoped (in fact, I was laughing throughout...I'm weird like that O_o). I haven't seen the current updated version with the third face though, so I may through that again.

No one has yet found the happy ending I put in.)
Hahaha, more like no one has found it without you having to tell how to get there. Clever!

I love the techniques used in the movie!

Agreed, the cinematography, setting, props, and voice work were all very well done. That face, while not that scary (disturbing, definitely), was still the creepiest thing I've seen in LBP.

I saw the trailer for that, never got around to seeing the real thing til now. Very good.

I kinda ruined the trailer though. The sackbot used your costume when I played it, and at the time, it was hilarious. Giant cannon decorations and the wooden sails mixed with animated hearts isn't exactly horror material.

BTW, thanks for the list. Haven't gotten around to playing them yet (Infamous 2), but might take some time soon.

Ok, I decided to include a playlist of some great horror levels out there:

The Descent 2
Whispers in the Dark
The lost world 1
The lost world 2
The lost world 3
Hellville hotel
Tenement
Call to Darkness
Endless Nightmare 2
The lighthouse
Afraid
Silent Hill (the one made by Defmunky666)
Silent hill (poorjack)
Dead Memories (currently being fixed)

I will update this list if I find any other creepy horror levels.

@NeonSudagatz It might be good if you also included the names of the creators for all of them or their LBP.me links. ^^ LBP2's text searches aren't that great.

I'd also like to recommend SIREN BLOOD CURSE 'Ward of Despair' and Audrey Dreaming by Powder-001. They're not too scary, but they're well done in my opinion. ^^

Good, good. Let's make this list bigger! I need to search for the author names... I only remembered the level names. I'll make sure to make the list more organized.
