Moving objects in the 3d layers
Archive: 10 posts
Hello again, I will do my best to explain the situation. I am trying to have moving objects in the background layers, but I want to have each object directly in front of the one behind it. The effect I am going for is a wave motion that starts in the background and then moves toward the screen. However, when I try to do this, the objects move away from each other. I'm assuming this is because the game thinks all of the objects are technically in the same layer. I was thinking of putting walls on either side of the objects to prevent them from doing that, but I'm not at home right now to try it. If anyone else has any ideas on how I could achieve this effect, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks! | 2011-06-08 20:50:00 Author: KnutsoPX Posts: 116 |
I'm a bit confused here... So you are trying to make objects in the back layer come forward to make a 3D effect or are your objects trying to move up and down as to form a wave-like motion? | 2011-06-09 03:35:00 Author: Unknown User |
The 3d layers can indeed be finicky. And yes, you are correct, technically, all the objects are in the very back layer when the game calculates physics, so what you are trying to achieve may be very hard to do without breaking the objects | 2011-06-09 03:41:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |

Wave-like motion. Up and down, starting in the background, coming toward the screen. | 2011-06-09 04:42:00 Author: KnutsoPX Posts: 116 |
So... not using glitched layers? | 2011-06-09 09:12:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
no. i see what hes saying... he wants the action up front, but waves extending far into the background as though he were at sea... given some kind of lego sea, or tron esque geo metric sea, but thats the effect i think. | 2011-06-09 11:40:00 Author: poorjack Posts: 1806 |

What poorjack describes is the effect I am going for. Have one layer thick blocks moving up and down starting in the background glitch layers coming forward toward the screen. The problem is, I don't think the game will allow more than one moving object to be lined up like that in the glitched layers. | 2011-06-09 16:03:00 Author: KnutsoPX Posts: 116 |
I'm not sure if this is still possible with LBP2. But it worked fine on LBP1 for me. If you want to line up objects in the 3d background without them pushing each other off or breaking, you have to group/paste a small dark matter to each of the objects so they won't have any problems lining up. I'm not sure if this still works though. I abandoned 3d layer glitch as soon as I found out objects in the 3d layer background aren't affected by lighting anymore . (sucks when you are trying to make a scary dark level). | 2011-06-09 17:49:00 Author: Whitemon Posts: 57 |

I'm not sure if this still works though . Forgive me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't this only work if the objects are stationary? I'm pretty sure glueing DM/LM to the objects won't allow them to move. UPDATE: Apparently, it works with hologram material. Solid materials won't move up and down if they are lined up in front of each other in the glitch layers. | 2011-06-09 18:42:00 Author: KnutsoPX Posts: 116 |
Moving things in the 3D layers is generally not possible, but...This may be of help: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=48030-Walk-Thru-Walls-Glitch-Rediscovered! I haven't tried this yet myself. | 2011-06-12 18:40:00 Author: Pookachoo Posts: 838 |
