level design, music, and names! Oh my?!

hey community, i have a cool project that im currently doing. its a metroid prime level and it's going great. the samus bot and morph ball logic is passing with flying colors, but im not here to tell you that. im here to ask you something. when im done with the logic( samus, morph ball, creatures, contraptions) im going to need help on level design. personally i suck at making levels. and i would love it if someone could help me in my project. the same goes for music, i can't create music to save my life. if anyone is good/excellent with level design/music, please let me know, you will be a big help. anyways, i also need help with suits and beams. i have the original power beam, and varia suit. but i would like the communities help with naming 3 suits i created, and coming up with fresh ideas for 3 beams. the 3 suits will be in the picture below, please give your best ideas and also contact me if you want to help in this project.

1) The name of the beam(s)
2) What it does

Ages ago when I was young I used to design stuff game related stuff on paper - and one of the things I did was plan out a set of 3 beams for a Metroid Prime game. This is one of the reasons I love LBP as I can finally make these ideas a reality. I'm using the concepts for the beams in a set of levels of mine, (so I don't want to tell everything) but I'll tell you about one of them.

It's called the Gravity Beam. Shooting it in short bursts at something would make objects rise slightly with each hit but a second later the effect would be lost and it would fall back to the ground. So with repeated fire you could get it pretty high until you stop and it plummets back down. The charge shot is similar, but it causes an object to rise a lot more and also stay there for longer (think shooting a rock in the way of a door, it would give you enough time and room to run under it before the effects wear off). As for the missile combo, it would clear an area of its gravity. Picture this, you shoot off the beam and it covers an area of the ground infront of you - think of it like the ice missile combo from Prime 1, but in a straight line along the ground. The space above it has limited gravity effects, so Samus can jump 5 times higher than she usually can, or you can throw objects further over larger gaps etc.

Hope that helps give you some ideas, the gravity options in LBP are pretty straight forward too so it's a really easy one to get up and running.

Regarding your suits, what do they do? It's difficult to come up with a name for them without knowing their function. =P

i was also thinking of a gravity beam. and i like the super missle idea. also, sorry for the suits. the suits are a pain, idk what i should make them do. the only one that has something is the purple one. its a Toxin Suit, it neutralizes the effects of corrosive toxic air. the other 2 i have no idea, and the varia suit is still in beta stages.2011-06-06 16:58:00

Ah I didn't realise you wanted suit ideas too. Well, suits have passive abilities so their abilities are all going to be based around similar things - i.e. protecting you from something. So you have the usual stuff like heat shielding, radiation shielding, poison shielding etc. Trying to think outside the box a bit. How about a super strong suit that is unable to be crushed? By that I mean consider some form of contraption moving up and down where your sackboy would ordinarily be squashed and killed, the suit could prevent this. As for the last one, something regarding light springs to mind with that. Maybe it could store light? If you stand in strong sunlight your tolerence to damaging objects increases and when you aren't in sunlight or get hit. Maybe even turn you into a mobile torch so you can enter pitch black areas.2011-06-07 12:54:00
