How to become known?

Archive: 11 posts

Hey guys,
Maybe you can help me.

My question is:
How to become known by Mm and the community like those "big" creators?
Like steve_big_guns, comphermc, jump_button, Morgana25, gevurah22, Nuclerfish and so on.

How did they become so well known?

It's very frustrating if you spend months on levels and then no one plays them!

I hope you can help me

Popularity is a really difficult thing to achieve. There's really no garenteed way of getting popular. You can spend a long time on a level, and have it being completely awesome, and it may be hidden underneath the other 4 million levels out there.

I say, you should just keep trying, get better with your creation skills, and be an active and friendly person in the community.

popularity.......well thats difficult to achieve, I mean look at me im an expert creator but only have 36 heart and my level only got 472 plays. I don't know the secrete to popularity but I can tell you this, first get your level know by everyone and if you get Mm pick then you are lucky. I know this isn't much of help but still I wish you luck soldier 2011-06-05 01:26:00

Yeah I know what you mean.

I try to become popular over the years.
I play LBP almost every day, I have the biggest LBP2 tutorial channel on YouTube, I sent messages to Mm on twitter and emailed them but that all helps (almost) nothing.

Maybe you just need luck or something like that.
This is so frustrating some times...

They were the first to make good levels, and continued doing so. That's pretty much it IMO. Otherwise you seem to be doing everything properly, its just luck though.

I personally think we should make a LBPC community pick (if we haven't already). It'll be a level with level links to our favourite levels for that week. No repeats of levels on the list (but repeated authors should be fine). If the level isn't an Mm pick, it's a candidate. Also, there should be a cutoff point for levels. It should try to only showcase the lesser known games that we enjoyed.

Since most of us tend to play several levels, some bad, some great, we can just announce to the world, 'here's a gem, enjoy".

Scorp, just keep doing what you're doing. I found out about you just recently looking for a counter tutorial and a pong tutorial. Now I''m sure I'll keep checking you out on YouTube to look at any new tutorials you come up with. You've got 35x more people hearting you than I do. Just know there are people out there, such as myself, who look up to you. Like I said, I think you're on the right track, just keep doing what you're doing. 2011-06-05 04:52:00

I've considered doing something like that, though those thoughts had me doing it solo. Perhapes a team can be formed for this purpose. I'd be happy to join one to help some of the good hidden levels get more noticed.

For something like that to be an official LBPC titled team, then that would have to be discussed with the site crew. It would also need support from the community itself to be made known.

Stephanie Ravens is just as well known as those creators you listed, but do you see her spending months on a lvl? No

My point is, quantity is more important then quality when it comes to becoming known. Sometimes quality is what is required to get to the cool pages, but once you master how to get anything to the cool pages, then the quality of what you make becomes less important.

When a level reaches the cool pages you are guaranteed a good amount of creator hearts regardless of the quality of the lvl. Thats why pounding out numerous levels onto the cool pages, each with an opening displaying ur PSN, will def get you popular.

Those creators you listed have been creating great levels for quiet some time so they dont apply to what im saying as much. However a creator like Ladylyn has only become popular on lbp2. Ladylyn creates cool movies, but to be honest, im sure take a few days to make at the most. However since all of the movies ladylyn created made the cool pages, it was just a matter of pounding more and more to the community. Despite the fact that no ones jaws were dropping to the lvls, ladylyn still got a considerable amount of attention due to the quantity of lvls. Once ladylyn became popular, ive noticed he is spending more time on his lvls cause there is really no need to do this once ur popular.

I have not published a lvl that did not make the cool pages, however i will never make a press X or short movie to milk the community of creator hearts and popularity. I rather have a small group of pple who know me for making extraordinary lvls, then everyone kno me for average lvls.
