San Andreas for me. There was just so much to do in it. It was like they were listening to all the times someone playing vice city said "It would be cool if......" and they just put it in the game. I loved the story, the wide area to explore, the mini games, the customisation of cars and character, the helicopters AND the jump jet AND the jetpack - ****, you could even own your own airfield and park your stolen planes in your own hanger!

So many of these things make GTA what it is, and were sorely missing from GTA IV. I got the feeling with GTA IV that they deliberately left stuff out just so they would have stuff to add in the next games....

I mean, euphoria, new car damage, and no side crap!
I love the game <3
shootouts have never been so epic as in IV.

Yup I was glad to see the lack of the same stuff id had to endure for the previous 5 games.

Yep Rosenburg made a return in SA.

SA is my favorite, but very closely followed by VC. I loved the atmos/setting of VC, but SA has to come in first overall. I wish I had my dvd drive fixed on my laptop can't play either for a while.

San Andreas

IV was an overrated, over-hyped disappointment where driving around a city with nothing to do in save for get bombarded with lame activities like pool and bowling, playing yet another chase mission, and playing 20 minute missions only to fail them and have to start over at the beginning again is considered a fantastic game.

The Western media is so full of itself and latches onto hype that it's pathetic. I'm so ashamed of the "hardcore" gamer, media, and mindset this generation.

"Oscar-quality". Give me a break...

Dude, there is more **** to do in GTA IV then SA for me.
You ever saw the living LC for real?
And those nice little details....like peds holding a sledgehammer etc...I suggest that you join GTAF, and look trought the masses of topics and you'll find ALOT of stuff to do.

Vice City for me. Loved everything about it.

I absolutely hated GTAIV. It's the worst one yet, I played it for a week and that was it. After three days I was only playing to see if I would start to like it more.

Now now oldage, lets not bring gtaforums bickering in here! lol. I agree with him, IV isn't all that (in my opinion). I've played them all, since I first played GTA:1 on PS1 when I was about 9. Currently IV is in no way my favorite. So as I pointed to above, i'm not someone who ''played SA first so nothing will EVER beat it'' etc... I've been with GTA from the start & sadly the most hyped one is among the worst for me.

I hate it when people say things like ''SA's rubbish, I don't want a pink mohawk!!!''. If you don't want that, don't get a pink mohawk etc... I know I never did. The point is, the options are there & there's a lot of them to cater to your wants, adding to the whole experience.

Saying that, the way the story drags you in is the main point for me. What's IV actually about anyway? A immigrant who gets involved a some trouble overseas? He's there to find 'that special someone' from his past to kill, which you get to decide wether to do or not, but that's it, in that one mission. Everything else in the main story is completely random.

<snip>

I never said SA was rubbish, I really liked the dogfights in a hydra vs the cop hydra's.
But ****, IV was such an improvement, I'm sure the next GTA for consoles WILL be total ownage, because GTA IV was R*'s first step into the next gen consoles.
Imagine crashing planes with the GTA IV engine
But this is alllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll about opinions, if IV is better for me, so it be.
(I still grab back to VCS and SA these days though)
What about Grand Theft Auto : LittleBigStories :arg:

A lot of the story missions in GTA IV had nothing to do with the main plot. I went "wtf am I doing this crap for then?"

Plus Niko is played as someone who wanted to get away from violence and killing, yet he has no problem doing just that throughout the game. It's contradictory and stupid imo.

Vice City is my favourite. GTA 3 comes in second.

SA is a bit lame in my opinion, the main characters is possibly my least favourite game character in the world due to his annoying personality. It also didn't look like a very visually attractive game. The fingers never separated and he had the same expression all the time. He and his friends also swear at every living thing.

GTA 4 is possibly my least favourite PS3 game that I've ever played. The stupid main character never bloody sprints when you want him to, and has no concept on how to smash a car to pieces. The most annoying thing, by far, is when all the idiots ring you up when you're being persued by a ton of police. What idiot would walk? The best thing to do on that game is to turn the music off unless you want to be bored by the ten tracks available.

I have a lot more to say about these two games, though San Andreas is actually a very good game.

Please, everyone stop to be nostalgic.
It's not cool if you only like the old ones, even if you played them over 9000 hours, and ages ago as you were a little child and your child-dreams still belong to them.
GTA IV is fantastic, it's no by mistake so often chosen for the GOTY.

I mean, yes it was fun all that JUMPAN and SHOOTAN and DRIVAN in the old' GTAs, but GTA IV still got it and improved it.
Ever shot down helicopters with rocket launcher? God ****** it looks amazing, and all that stuff.
You have so many great n' funny possibilitie in this game.
And playing online with your friends beats everything you could had done before in all GTAs.

All that whining about the potencial GTA IV wasted, it's just a big bucket of substance I'm not allowed to talk about.
You just didn't played enough yet, I bet you haven't even discovered everything, so why grumping?

Most IV bashers don't know what the game truly has to offer
Only sack-andreas doesn't looks like a IV basher...

^That's honest to God the lamest excuse.

"IV bashers don't know what there is to offer!"

Look up DBean on Xbox.com.

Oh.

100%.

But we must have missed the fun, the activities that weren't tedious or lacking variety, the interesting unlockables, the story that was actually compelling, and the only five hours to play the game that most reviewers got.

But then again, maybe we have taste and don't fall for hype.

The game in no way, shape or form deserved all those 100% perfect ratings.
I can understand that people will prefer IV to the old ones, I can understand that people praise it as the greatest game ever. It isn't*, but I can understand it. It just never for a second deserved those ratings.
It felt so lacking. They went so far on the realism I felt it took the fun of GTA out of it. And that for me is what GTA was. Fun. Maybe if I wasn't looking at it as GTA, I might like it. Because I wouldn't be comparing it to the older games and thinking "This just doesn't feel right".

I really cannot put down into solid reasoning, why I didn't like it. Everything I feel is based on just... something. I didn't like the way it felt, the way things went. There was just that something about it I couldn't get into it. And that really annoyed me. I wanted to love this game. I wanted to still be playing to this day, above LittleBigPlanet.

I hope that 5 will bring me back into what I will openly admit, is the greatest franchise ever.

*Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is.

There is a lot to do, but it is boring. The only thing I did on it was story mode and I beat that pretty **** quickly. All the things that made Andreas good have been removed in this game.

All the reviews for this game are wrong, this is by far the worst Ps3 game and the worst GTA ever.

6. gta san andreas (Worst GTA ever way overhyped. 6 and a half out of 10)
5. GTA 3 (good game but i played it the same time as vice city so it was only ok 8 out of ten)
4. Gta liberty city stories (8 out of ten)
3. GTA vice city stories ( 8 and a half out of ten)
2. GTA IV ( brilliant game even better than the hype 9.9 out of ten)
1. GTA vice city ( pure epicness 10 out of ten)

that's my opinion
