Darksiders 2!

Archive: 23 posts

Seems it's going to be on the cover of the July GameInformer. Wasn't really expecting it but I quite enjoyed the 1st game so looking forward to it. Death's the new protagonist .

Game Informer also claims that the sequel will "deliver a richer experience," including new (and more) NPCs, a "detailed loot system" and some fresh new dungeons to explore. More specifically, Death will be traveling through "the world of Abyss," doing exactly the opposite of what you'd expect a guy named "Death" to be doing: trying to restore humankind.

I don't know why your surprised, the end cinematic seemed pretty clear that the conflict had only begun and that War would be reunited with his brothers. I am excited for this title regardless though. Usually whats on the cover is also accompanied by a large article so I can't wait for my subscription 2011-06-02 00:45:00

I really loved Darksiders and have been waiting for an announcement of a sequel ever since. Besides Death being a cool character I am very intrigued by the loot system, curious to see how deep it will actually be.2011-06-02 07:03:00

Reveal trailer:

Isn't that great quality or a great trailer tbh. Still, although it's hard to tell, it kinda looks 60 fps.

Looks awesome, a bit concerned with the Death character :/ The shirtless look makes it seem like hes missing half of his armor. The skull mask looks a bit plain and maybe a bit cliche for Death. The voice acting sounds amazing though, even better than in the first. They really know how to make unique voices that specially cater to each character.2011-06-03 04:57:00

I just rebought Darksiders 1 and love it more then I remember. As such, I am waiting for a sequel. Because Peanut knows we need more games with the Zelda genre.

Anywho, yep. I will be buying this. :kz:

Speaking to anyone who cares, this game is to be released in June, THQ's financial forecast says somewhere deep down in the wad of financial failure:

Also, here's a preview:

I think it got rated right. It has nothing original about it except for the art, and I don't think the result is worth it. I mean, if they're going to rip off Zelda, God of War, Portal, etc, good - at least they're ripping off great games. But at least they should make the result better than the sum of its parts, like the Uncharted series is able to do.

Also, the combat makes me cringe in frustration. Too slow, simple and clunky. God of War and the new Castlevania are slow and simple beat 'em up games that don't even stand a chance against the subtlety, speed and finesse of masters like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, and Darksiders' combat is even slower than those

A tasty new trailer (part 1) to breath new life in to this thread?

I really don't think that a pre rendered action trailer was the correct way to market this game :/ I mean, you can't so any of the stuff he does, and it doesn't really show what the game is about, and pre rendered video isn't impressive anymore... so why?

That being said, I am eagerly anticipating this game. I just wish the trailer actually was worthwhile :/

I'm not. But this game might surprise me if it gets the combat system right. The first one was so frustratingly slow.2012-08-02 18:26:00

The developers have said that Death is designed to be a much faster and more agile than War and combat will reflect that. You can tell by the choice in weapons, War had a huge sword, a huge scythe and a huge boxing glove, emphasising the slow, hard-hitting combat style. On the other hand, Death dual-wields two small scythes which are more like daggers for fast-paced combat.

Personally, I've already placed a pre-order on Amazon, which comes with free dlc, can't wait.

I wouldn't even describe War as "hard hitting". Even the most pathetic enemies took a lot of hits. That didn't make them harder to beat, it just felt like you were mindlessly hammering on them for half an hour until they realized that staying down was their best option. The slowness and the simplicity of the combat made it a hundred times worse.

Anyway, I've seen a couple of gameplay videos. The combat does indeed look a lot faster and more fluid, and Death seems to be far more interesting than his witless brute of a brother. But I also saw something I didn't like. Why did they implement a loot system in an adventure game? Why have dozens of cookie-cutter items and weapons instead of just a few memorable ones?

This is an adventure game. I want to fight, explore, navigate obstacles, solve puzzles and defeat bosses using cunning and resourceful strategies. I don't want to travel to a fricking vending-machine NPC every half hour in order to empty a junk-filled inventory. I don't want to spend hours of playtime on an item menu figuring out which underpants have the highest fart resistance. If I wanted those things, I'd be playing Diablo.

Loot system is kinda disappointing. Miss Life Shards :/

Anyway, having great fun . At beginning of final dungeon of first realm. Already had a few tough puzzles, eager to see what's next

The original game became known for being 'that game that copies every other adventure game'. My guess is that Vigil wanted to add something that separated Darksiders 2 from that generalisation. They've added some RPG elements to the game so it doesn't feel so much like a Zelda clone.

Personally, I thought people making those sorts of claims about the first game were misguided, all games copy from one another. The elements that Darksiders copied were done very well so it deserved to be a much more successful game than it became. However, Vigil have seen that they need to change something up in order to please this crowd, and so they added the loot and the skill trees.

The complains were not misguided. Being influenced by other games, taking their elements and mixing them up in your own way is OK. Straight-up ripping them off is not ok.

Pretty much 90% of the gameplay mechanics in Darksiders 1 were copied off of Legend of Zelda. The grapple hook, picking up and carrying bombs, using a boomerang and guiding it through torches to set off those bombs; exploring a map full of dungeons, secrets and non-linear objectives, riding a horse to travel faster... Blatant rippoffs, all of it. Funny thing is, Darksiders copied a 14 year old game and still manages to be worse in every way except for graphics.

And when I thought the game couldn't get more derivative, it gave me a fricking gun that shoots blue and orange portals.

If they want the sequel to be original, they don't need to cram it with stuff that doesn't belong in an adventure game. They need to use these influences in such a way that the resulting product becomes unique. Look at the Uncharted series: Naughty Dog took elements from other games, but used them in their own way. The result is worth more than the sum of its parts. Darksiders 1 failed to do that.

So I've gotten to the third area, putting in 19 hours so far, and am having a great time :O Anyone else?

Also... I need to send a weapon to someone else for a trophy... any volunteers? >_> <_<

Haven't had much time on my PS3 recently, so I'm still in the first area. However, I'm loving what I've seen so far, the RPG elements have been really well implemented and the larger scale of the game compared to the first is awesome.

I couldn't be bothered to get the THQ online pass straight away. But when I do, you can add me and send me some crummy white weapon.

So just beat the game minus some sidequests, took me 24 hours.

And I didn't realize I was fighting the final boss until the trophy came up, saying I beat the final boss and the game. And I was like, wut? Really? Huh? You srs? Then the ending came, and, like, huh. I unno, it kinda feels like this entire game was utterly pointless as nothing was really done in preparation for the Darksiders sequel hinted at the end of the first game. I mean, it was fun, but the story was... wut? And the final boss... was a boss...?
