TRAILER OUT NOW

Nothing amazing or fancy, just a little teaser to set the mood!
http://lbp.me/v/1scs9d

I come to you again with yet another announcement! In absence of a Demo, I will be releasing "Mythicos: Year of the Dark Phoenix" a 3 part series of one shot short stories that tie in to the first act of "Realm of Elves" These short stories will each be released sequentially in the weeks preceding the release of "Realm of Elves" and each will demo and feature a major gameplay element of "Mythicos" Essentially, becoming a 'Demo with benefits' and giving you all a little taste of the full package by the end of the 3. I hope this news makes you all a little more excited to see this project come into being, and I hope you will all be glad to hear that some screenshots of "Dark Phoenix" as well as "Realm of Elves" will be coming later this week.

I would also like to take this time to unveil a new type of magic-

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=34774

Sound Magic: With Sound Magic, you are the master of audio frequencies! And you can put this noisy power to good use solving puzzles, and disposing of enemies in creative ways. For instance, you can emit a frequency that will give your enemy a headache, temporarily paralyzing them, and rendering them helpless... OR you could go the high route, and shoot fast traveling bullets of concentrated noise and destroy your opponents in a fast shoot em up frenzy! But as I have said, combat is not the only use of Sound Magic- It can also be used to vibrate metallic objects from across a room, or you can even combine it with water magic- Freeze a boulder in your path, and crack it to pieces with a supersonic blast!

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=34763

Lightening Magic: Used as a powerful offensive attack or as a clever puzzle solving mechanism. Lightening magic can be used as a short range shockwave type attack, or can travel through metal floors and other conductive substances to do anything from turn on a machine, to electrocuting your enemies.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=34773

Water Magic: Water is extremely versatile, what with so many physical states. In the world of 'Mythicos' you can control water in a variety of ways. From using a controlled stream of liquid to turn a mill, to using a powerful jet of ice crystals to freeze your enemy in their tracks, just like Mm showed us back before LBP1 was released in '08... Well almost...

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=34767

Gravity Magic: The most powerful force in the universe is the one that keeps us glued to this planet, but now, you can unleash that power! Weather it be to jump several times higher than an elf's average bound, or to keep suspended in the air for the holy grail of video game maneuvers... the DOUBLE JUMP... OR, if you are feeling a little frisky, you may want to try out a gravity push to move the interactive environment, or to push a goblin off a cliff... either way is fine. Physics based gameplay makes for some funtastic good times, just ask Gabe Newell.

Those are just four of the six magical alignments that have been implemented into this brand new adventure. I hope this little taste of what is to come has piqued your interest in the long dead 'Mythicos' series' return to glory, and I hope you will not lose interest before the release. As I said back at the top of this page- this is a game, not a level. Mm told us we could make whole games, and that is exactly what I am doing.

Thank you for your time, and as always, live long, and prosper!

-PJK

P.S. Mad props to my bro MaxDiehard for designing... A good 90% of the text for this (and every other Mythicos) He has been here since the beginning, and I don't think this series would have been this cool without his crazy corner editing skills.

Hopefully it won't be a terribly long time. Ofcourse, Mythicos IV had been "coming soon" for years... before I decided to stop doing Mythicos 'forever'2011-06-08 07:33:00

How did you make those vines in picture 4? Some sort of dirty smudge or print on it. Your decoration and stickering looks really good.2011-06-09 17:10:00

Well thanks cymbol! I am going to update this thread with some new news and pictures soon!

@des, I use the smudge, fingerprints, and black splat stickers a lot in layers to make a nice natural aged feel. Its just a lot of layering and. The different textures. And bumpmaps of wood can add a lot to the depth of the stickers.

Cinematics that rival the length of cinematic only levels in LBP2?
6 magical abilities? A good story?
This sounds very good!

I've never played your old series but I might want to.

Let me clear this up... 6 CLASSES of magic. There will be 1-3 abilities per class. I have 8 magic based abilities (attacks, spells, etc) already hammered out and tested, and I am playing around with 2 or three other ideas. But for now, let's say you are promised 8 distinct powers out of 6 classes of magic.2011-06-09 19:57:00

Yes. If you have noticed, I have been lurking moar instead of turning out levels. This is me learning to handle logic like a boss and study what people like in a game. I have always felt my platforming was boring, so I go to jackofcourse and play all of his levels over and over and figure out what makes them fun. I felt that my levels lacked visual flair, so I go to morgana25 and to the Mm levels to see what makes them so beautiful. I feel my gameplay is too sackboy, so I go to comphrc to learn about taking LBP and turning it from a game, into a game engine. This is what I have been doing for a year. And what came out was Mythicos. I am proud of what I have done, and I hope you will see how much fun I am having making this, and some of that fun will be transferred into the game itself.

@cybersnake, if you look at the picture of the hud I have, there are 3 little boxes to the right of it. This is your magic selector. You can shuffle through the different classes, and then each class will have a basic spell (R2) and most will have a supplement spell (L2) and s few will also have a third spell or effect that will change the way your character interacts with the environment. Each magic class basically has its own way of playing the game, and. All the puzzles will have multiple solutions. Say you come to a door, but it is blocked by a statue. Will you freeze the statue with your ice beam, and then shatter it with a supersonic blast? Or will you get near the statue, and push it out of the way with a gravity bump? It all depends on how the player is thinking. There will almost always be more than one solution.

Yeah, that's how I thought it would work, simliar to Bioshock. Anyway can the player fight with swords or staffs or whatever your using, or is it just magic?2011-06-09 21:12:00

Due to my insistance on everything losing the cute Mm quality of things, I could not find a suitable way to use physical weapons, but I think you with find that the magic has a nice solid pop to it. Less similar in feeling to elderscrolls magic, more similar to a side scrolling shooter. Quick and responsive. Not to say there are no timed spells. And a lot of spells are close quarters as well, giving an up close and personal feel to the fighting. Again, it really depends on the player. One person may want to used ranged attacs, while another may want to get in close. And yet another may want to avoid combat all together.2011-06-09 21:20:00

There is a way of using weapons withought losing 'the cute Mm quality of things', just look at this level below. The logic for it isn't even that hard and you can even add combos (this video doesn't have it but I've made a prototype version of it and it's really simple). If you need any help on it just ask me or you could use this guys tutorials. (http://lbp.me/u/Alic44)

I mean I WANT to lose that quality. The swords in the game would be great if sackboy's arms moved differently. I just don't think lbp is at a point in its forever development to allow for realistic mele weapons. So I have designed the game mechanics for Mythicos from the ground up to be an addictive maand never repetitive magic only system. There will be some combat later on in the game that does not involve magic, but it doesn't involve weapons or hand to hand either. I would tell you about it, but I hate spoilers and I feel it would ruin the story 2011-06-09 21:42:00
