What is your entertainment set up?

Archive: 11 posts

What type of tv, stereo or pc do you own?

How do you play your games watch your movies and entertain yourself? Are you one of those people who do it in style? What type of tv do you have, how big is it? How are you listening to your games or movies? Are you on a 13 inch tube tv(which is 100% fine) or are you playing on the biggest flat screen available?

Those are the type of questions I'd like to hear the answers for. I think it be fun to talk about your entertainment set up, no matter how big or small. Do you own hundreds of games or every system that has ever been released. Do you like your set up or would like something better?

This thread isn't for bashing the things people have and can only afford or maybe they just enjoy the game and don't need a huge tv. This thread is to show what you got and if you worked hard for it then sure you can brag but please don't make fun of 'John or Jennifer Smith' because they don't have what you do.

If you can throw up some pics.

Also maybe someone is thinking of buying the tv or sound system you have, maybe you can help them out with answering questions about the product.

Anyway let's have fun with this and see and hear how people are playing games or doing whatever it is they do whenever they turn on the power button to be entertained.

I have a 55 inch samsung led about 6 months old. I love it! I had a 40 something inch lg but it burnt out with a year. My samsung blows the lg out of the water, although I was not happy when the lg stopped working, I am happy now. But that's not important to me. I have a Sony 990 watt 7.1 surround sound. I know there a ton of better sound systems out there but right now this is fantastic. The optical sound hook up is insane. I have the sub right next to me so whenever a bomb goes of or an explosion happens it feels like I'm right there, it shakes me out of my seat.

Also I have a projector hd 720. We had it set up at our old apartment at about 170inches. It was crystal clear and boy do I miss it. We are moving soon and requirement is that I can finally set it up again. Right now it's being used as a 70 inch computer monitor, which is cool but it's way better to watch movies on it. We saved hundreds of dollars avoiding the movie theatre when we had that set up. You can probably guess our house was where everyone came for any sportig event. The biggest I had it set up to before it started losing picture quality was right at 320 inches. Also people always say the only thing that sucks about projectors is you have to keep yor house dark to watch it. That's not totally true. Ya sure if the sun was beatiing down on the image we would have a harder time seeing it but as far a natural light just coming into the room, it was no problem. It was honestly the best investment I ever made on an electronic. We go to the movies twice a week and would spend an easy 50bucks a week. I had it payed off in about 4 months. Thats including the price of us going to blockbuster or getting nextflix movies. If you ever have a chance to buy one do it. There is nothing better than having a little movie theatre in your house, oh yeah and playing games on it was incredible. When purchasing just make sure you read reviews and do a ton of research on the one you've chosen. See what kind of warranties are included. A bulb for one of those things is a ton of money and would not be fun to replace. We have hundreds of hours on our projector and still no problems(knock on wood). Just in case we spent an extra 60 bucks to get one free bulb replacement.

Ok sorry about that. I was talking too much about the projector. Anyway I think that's it. Except for a pair of turtle beach headphones I have for nightime playing. They are pretty nice, I have them hooked up to a virtual surround sound dss jack. They are wired which sucks but it's not a huge problem. I don't need my fianc? waking up at 1am because somebody cooked a grenade on me our something. Actually I very interested on the new surround wireless headphones from Sony. I'll keep an eye out for them and if they get some decent reviews I'll most likely pick em up.

So that my set up. I basically game on my ps3 and watch movies on it. It makes me happy and I worked very hard to get everything I have. Probably already out dated but I don't care I'm sticking with this stuff for at least a few years. I need to buy a house next not a 100inch tv lol.

Hmm... my set-up...

- 1 entertainment console (either Sony or Nintendo brand... bleh Microsoft)
- 1 operating TV (something that at least gets the colors right)
- 1 seating apparatus (anything from a concrete floor to a comfy couch)

... and that's about it. Anything else is a luxury to me. ;_;

My gaming setup is pretty generic, PS3 hooked up to parents 40" Samsung, don't have a whole lot of games. However, me and my brother still have our SNES, N64 and PS2 that still get hooked up occasionally.

My second entertainment setup is my 27" iMac, was part B'day present part my own purchase, which I do some gaming on and a lot of movie watching from bed <3 I'm saving up for a second 27" screen for it (Dell U2711) I'll also then use it as a screen for my PS3... eventually

When it boils down to it that's all that matters. My whole life I've played games on a tube tv no bigger than 27inches and that's when I actually even ha system to play. So now that I'm older and have decent money coming from 80 and 90 hour work weeks I've treated myself to a few electronics. But when I am deep into playing a game none of that matters except to enjoy what I'm doing. Actually I feel bad for people with ps3's that only have a tube tv. The ps3 is meant to be seen on an LCD, some games you can't even see the things needed to play the game. When I went to go visit my little brother he was playing on a tube tv. I couldn't even read the text on menus. We all chipped in on a little LCD for him. Just a few years ago those things we way to expensive, that's exactly why I bought a projector, it was 4 times cheaper then a tv. Now you can get a decent 27 or 32 inch for about 200 bucks on sale rather then te 2,000 it was just 3 or 4 years ago.

The only thing I disagree with is the seating aparatus you mentioned, a concrete floor is not my ideal seat lol, I need a little comfort after long hard days of working. The rest of what you mentioned is all you need as long as you can see or hear what your doing, although if you can afford or have a rich mommy or daddy it is nice to play a game or watch movie the way the director or developer intetened you to see and hear it. I just hate when a new electronic comes out 3 months after you've saved up for year and just bought a new piece of equipment. Also the industry charges way to much for NEW. When a new console comes out I usually wait for a price drop and for them to fix all the bugs, release a newer model before I buy it. Plus you have a choice of about 20 games tops in which 2 are worth playing. I'm glad to hear from Sony all of these rumors about a ps4 are false. When they said they were working on the next console some reporter mixed the words around and took it as Sony was talking about the ps4, when in fact Sony was talking about the NGP or psp2.

I am actually thinking of purchasing a Mac. How do you like it? I just a little hesitant because I've used windows since I can remember. I was looking at Mac book or the new pc, not sure what it's called but it only a screen, it has no tower. Any tips you can tell me when buying a Mac. I'm not interested in the most expensive one, I think the middle priced or even the cheapest one will do. Just a couple questions.

How is the apple care plan(if you have it)?

Is playing games on lower end Mac still good or do you need the pimped put one. It seems the lower end Mac books or just as good as the higher brand from other company's.

Is it true you don't need to waste money and space on a virus protector. Also what about spyware software, do you need that? And finally if you don't need a virus protector can you still get a virus without it and can you install a program of you wanted?

If you can answer any of these question I'd be extremely thankful.

I absolutely love it, but then, I'm coming from a dying 6+yr old PC, so I was bound to love it Also keep in mind this is my first Mac and I've only had it for 3 weeks

I've been using windows for ~13yrs, or since I was 5yrs old Switching from Windows is pretty easy though, it can be frustrating sometimes sure, but I've found a quick google search will help you out most of the time. And if it can't there's plenty of great Mac forums around. The iMac is the one you're thinking of btw.

Don't have it myself, yet. I've heard good things though.

It seems the lower end Mac books or just as good as the higher brand from other company's.They'll never be as good as a PC simply because they use laptop GPU's instead of desktop version. In saying that though, the low end and high end models all play games fine, you'll just have to accept that the settings will have to be put lower. That's all I can really say since I don't know a lot about Gfx cards.

Yes and no. You can still get viruses it's just there's a lot less of them around and Macs come with their own anti-virus protection (at least, I think they do, I can't quite remember) If you use a little common sense though, you'll be fine without using any extra protection.

No problem. Just make sure you do some research and you'll end up with a good machine If something does go wrong though, there's always the 14 day return policy to save you.

Just recently got a 42" 3D Sony TV - 3D gaming is fantastic, especially for racing games.

To go with;
PS3 - 360 - Wii - PC ( DS, 3DS, PSP )

Loads of games for all of the platforms... and I still sit there of an evening saying "Pffft... there's NOTHING to play!"

I've got a crappy acoustic solutions 19", but it does do 720p and 1080i pretty well, so for the moment I'm fine with it. And when my mum's asleep and I'm gaming I'll just mute it and listen to dubstep on my iPod. As for a seat, I just use my super low bed, it's only half a foot high and 2 feet away from my bed. I have a wii but I'm gonna sell it today. 2011-05-31 12:38:00

I have a 45 inch Full-HD SONY Bravia TV, with a PS2 and PS3 hooked up. We want to buy a surround system, but my mom is making it hard for us because she thinks that "it will cause much noise".2011-05-31 19:46:00
