Black hole?

Archive: 11 posts

I am currently finishing a level and need a good way to end it. I thought what can be better then a creating a black hole, it'll go with this sci-fi level perfect. My problem is logic is not my thing and I am having a really hard time with this.

Basically I want to take my entire level and have it sucked into a black hole. So in the end there will be darkness, nothing at all. I have created the Blackhole and the sounds but actually getting the objects into the hole and getting them to vanish is pretty hard. I have a good idea but I want the sequence to last for about a minute, until the whole level is gone. Getting actual foundation into the level is hard also.

I want the hole to appear above the person, then the camera to zoom put pretty far then have everything be sucked in piece by piece. The other hard part is I want a camera to be taking shots of the key objects in the story coming off the ground and flying in the air. So things people saw at the begginging of the level will be entering black holes camera view.

If you guys can just start throwing ideas put that would be great. I'll mention everyone who helped with this scene. I want it to be on an epic scale. Something that really looks awesome and also something that make people say "wow! How do he do that". I do understand logic a bit but this is a little beyond me. I have to take my entire level and basically have every inch destroyed and taken into nowhere. Just a simple idea or theory on how this can work would be great. I'm not asking for someone to come along and tell me exactly how to do it. I still want it to be original.

Thanks so much guys.

Also if for some reason you don't know what a black hole is check this out.

Where the "hole" appears, put a tag, and have a follower on every object in the game set to follow the tag when activated, and then set a tag sensor with a low radius on each object attached to a destroyer, set to disappear. You could also put a rotator on each object, so it spins as it flies toward the hole.

Create a microchip with all of this on it, using a tag sensor to activate the process. This way, you can capture the microchip, and just copy it to every object, instead of trying to wire it. Then, to activate the hole, all you have to do is activate the tag. Just make sure the tag sensors have a radius big enough to pick up the signal.

Thanks so much. It sound fairly easy to accomplish. I'm starting to think now after messing with it for it a bit it's going to be more of getting cameras to make this look intense. It's gonna be on how I capture it. With just pulled back view I won't get what I'm looking for. I'm going to have to do close ups, camera shakes and a volume control. I'll have to find a friend good with cameras to help in this one. The first step is getting it to work(by the way thanks for the idea I'll try it tonight), the second step is directing and editing the scene. Nobodys is going be playing so it visually has to look really cool. I'm think of having the player at least press some buttons, maybe they can be trying not to get sucked in, of course the outcome will be the same but at least I'll be keeping the player entertained by letting them interact with the environment.

One of my friends made a black hole by using emitters to spit out pieces of holo that would stick to things then drag them back towards the singularity before destroying them. Fun in create mode 2011-05-31 04:49:00

You should ask Gilgamesh, last I recall he was working on one too, maybe he can help?2011-05-31 05:59:00

You could introduce a rotating camera to create the illusion of objects spiralling inwards... that would probably be easier than making the objects spin themselves.2011-05-31 08:58:00

for interacting with the environment i would make it so every object suddenly becomes grabable and then the player receives a grapple. then they can swing away all they want and then get to a point where they get whacked with a huge piece of material and cant get past so gets taken into the black hole. that would be fun.2011-05-31 10:34:00

This idea reminds me of the introduction to LBP2, when Sackboy is trying to run away on a beach ball until Da Vinci grabs him. That was a cool thing to watch, but to have something interactive in a thing like this black hole idea could be quite awesome.

Regrettably, I've not a unique idea of my own to express, but I do recall that there was a Black Hole Tool in Robbit10's "Creator Toolbox" level.
I put level in italics 'cause Robbit's taken to putting the newest stuff in a Community Object, while leaving older concepts on the display shelves.
Queue up the level here (http://lbp.me/v/ye4qhs), and go looking around in the teleporters he's got in there.
You'll find it soon enough.

You could just make copies of the scenes and objects, then make the objects and scenery there detached from the ground and making then float up/towards the black hole while spinning and doing other anti-gravity floaty stuff. (Sorry if you have already created the black hole. )2011-06-01 10:48:00
