Review #18
"Final Fantasy X: Turn-based RPG" by Meteroids http://lbp.me/v/0gc3hp
I really didn't expect much from this level other then a bare bones tech demo, Kupo.
But what I saw amazed me, Kupo.

Atmosphere
The presentation is sort of mixed, Kupo. The characters and enemies look nice and are nicely animated as well as the menus, Kupo. But the games areas are severely lacking, There's a lot of LBP stickers present and even Notes used, Kupo. It can also look pretty dark, making the menu's and spheregrid hard to see, Kupo. I also couldn't see things because the camera wasn't zoomed out enough, Kupo.
Overall the presentation is subpar, Kupo.

13/30 (Unkupo...)

Music & Sounds, Kupo
There's very few songs used in the game, Kupo. A quiet deep song, Kupo, and the classic Final Fantasy "Fanfare", Kupo. I think there could've been music during the battles, Kupo. Sounds are used very good, there are many of them used , Kupo.

15/20(Good, Kupo.)

Gameplay, Kupo
This lev... gam... level has a LOT of menus and variables, Kupo. You control 3 characters (tidus, yuna, and auron),Kupo. They have various attacks and skills, Kupo. There are items and equipments to buy, Kupo. There is a well done "spheregrid" which increases your stats, and gives you new skills, Kupo. There are random encounters (), Kupo. During the battle screen you have many options available,an attack,defend,skills/magic,limit break, escape, ZOMG that's complicated, Kupo. Theres a town in the level where you can buy equipment and items, rest and talk with townsfolk, or rather towns moogles, Kupo.

It utilizes LBP's 3 layer system in genius effect, Kupo. You can change your layer during your turn via defend, Kupo. Characters set in the front layer have more offense, characters in the back layer have more defense, and characters in the middle get no boost, Kupo. This not only works for you but the enemies, And you can also hit multiple enemies on the same layer, Kupo.

There is a small variety of enemies to fight each with unique attacks and animations that do different damage depending on your skills, spheregrid set, layer, enemy attack, stance, enemy layer... OH MY GOD THAT HAS SO MANY VARIABLES, KUPO... But looking past the novelty this is a good RPG system in its own right, Kupo.

I really loved the genuine RPG feel in this level, The feeling of after just a bit of grinding enemies you had once been crushed by and feared then turned into 1 hit kills, The feeling of finding items and being excited to equip them is present here, There's a lot of strategy especially considering the use of LBP's 3 layer system, Kupo.

Sadly though there is also some bad things to say, Kupo.
The gam... level is very short, Kupo. It ends right after the first boss( which is directly after the first town), Kupo. The menu's can feel a little finicky, The game is also very text heavy, It was a bit annoying, Kupo.

TL,DR- This is an RPG with complicated logic, Kupo.
38/50 (Very good stuff, Kupo.)

Final Thoughts, Kupo
I really enjoyed this level, It feels like a genuine RPG, Kupo.
It has a nice calm feeling to it, it uses that slow atmospheric tune for 99.99% of the level, and the atmosphere is cool, Kupo.
Though It's a very short level, And judging from the level's description it'll stay that way, Kupo.

"This was originally a tutorial level (so it's text heavy) for a longer game, but I've long since given up on that. This will probably be the last game I make, and the last time I waste 250+ hours doing anything. This is my final fantasy. Thank you for playing"

It's a shame that this dedicated creator won't finish this, But he can't be blamed, Kupo. He's spent 250+ Hours!! making this level and it shows, Kupo. If he made a full fledged game It would probably take him many many months to finish, Kupo.

But as it is, its a short experience definetly worth trying., Kupo. This was obviously made by meteroids with a lot of effort and it shows, Kupo.

Thanks for the review.

I've gotten a ton of ugly comments, but not a lot of people tell me how to fix it (not that I'm going to; I just want to see where I went wrong). My level takes up a lot of the thermo, so I have to destroy and emit areas as you see them. So by zooming the camera out, I end up having more areas that's out at the same time (and that's bad for the thermo). I want to preserve the original dark lighting just like the original game. It's supposed to start out at sunset, then changing into nightfall as you proceed. Which menu are you talking about? The main menu, or the battle menus? Maybe simply increasing the brightness of the letters would help? The lights on the spheregrid wouldn't be as apparent if I made it brighter. Perhaps removing the lights altogether would be a good fix for that?

As for the sound, yes, I wanted battle music too. But unfortunately, I can't have music stop and pick up where they left off, which means that you'd only be listening to the same 4 seconds of field music before getting into a battle. It's the same reason the fanfare doesn't play after every battle. The only solution I can think of is to only have battle music only during the boss fight.

Yeah, tutorials aren't very fun. I wanted to make it as quick and painless as possible, though now there isn't a full game to follow it up with, so it's just painful. What do you mean by finicky menus? Can I ask how you managed to upload that photo? Because I can't for the life of me upload anything. I noticed you don't have the approved or hearted icons on the review even though it says you did both on my page... unless you dehearted it afterwards. Well, thanks again.
