[SCE]SamProtagonist answers some DLC questions

Archive: 11 posts

A while ago, we arranged an interview with Alex Evans, but they've been busy and haven't been able to get back to us. Thankfully, SamProtagonist decided to help out. Sam works for Sony and is closely involved in the ongoing development of LittleBigPlanet. He answered a few of the questions (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=t=3589) that were sent along to Alex; here's the answers:

Downloadable Content is a big seller for many people. How often would you like to release DLC, realistically?

Realistically we're hoping to release new content every week. You'll have seen a lot of costumes already, but we're planning a whole lot more besides with our first non-costume pack due very soon.

Is there any possibility of this game having a long(3-5 years) lifespan, complete with support from Media Molecule? If not, how long would you like to support LittleBigPlanet with DLC and updates?

In response to the first part - absolutely, there's plenty of chance. For as long as the community is active we'll be looking to continue the support of the game with new content.

How much of the game can DLC change? Can it modify the entire physics system, or is it limited to introducing new materials and objects?

I can't go into too much detail, but the answer is "a lot".

The soundtrack in LittleBigPlanet is fantastic. Will we be seeing new music as DLC in the future?

Quite possibly, we've seen plenty of requests for new music, and while we can't make any promises right now it's something we'll definitely look at.

What kinds of DLC will be free, and what kinds will we be paying for?

The short answer is that various extra content will be free, and the same with paid content. All extra content costs time and resources to create so this has to be considered when thinking about whether something is paid or free, but we're committed to bringing both out regularly.

What kinds of features were dropped during the development process? Are there any plans to re-introduce features as DLC?

A lot of changes happened during the development process for a variety of reasons. Where a feature was cut it was usually because it either didn't work well or simply wasn't fun. The ability to bring extra downloadable content out gives us the opportunity to revisit these ideas, so there may be features that make a return.

Will the snapshot feature ever automatically transfer pictures to the PS3's HDD, so they can be accessed and transferred to a PC? This would be a welcome feature for many, including myself.

It's a request we're aware of, but have no firm plans for at the moment.

Speaking of new features, we've got a suggestions forum at our site for community suggestions on what improvements they'd like to see in LBP. What kind of plans do you have to get feedback from the LBP community?

We're keeping an eye on all the feedback we get from around the world and the various official and community-lead sites for LittleBigPlanet. We're keen to take a lead from what you guys want, and while it might not always be possible to create exactly what's been asked for we'll take suggestions as a starting point for new content and changes to the game.

Now if only he'd yell at Mm to tweak the searching algorithm a bit so better levels can surface to claim the top pages.

Ah well, he's a busy man, I'm sure. You can't do everything.

Only real interesting point is the non-costume pack on its way soon. I'm hoping its a level or something, a Christmas level would be a very good idea and 'present' for LBP owners on the 25th for instance, with some new materials and stickers to find inside of it.

Wish you'd got the interview with Alex though, as Sam doesn't always know for sure whats going on.

The only thing I'm interested in knowing is when we can upload images into the game from the HDD.

Apart from that I really don't care what they do because it's the only thing stopping me from creating the levels I want to create.

I really hope the new materials/objects/music don't come in packs. I hope new WORLDS for the Story mode come as DLC, and you can get the unlockables in those.2008-12-14 07:15:00

I wish MM doesn't go too far with making us pay for stuff over PSN Store.
I have simply no way to get my money onto my account anyway, but I'm more concerned on the rarer stuff, like Music and Worlds.
