LittleBigMagnet

Hi there, I've juste published a new level, called LittleBigMagnet. This level is a really short, really easy level that involves a few magnets. This was supposed to be a bigger level but it was so complex and difficult to finish it that I've abandonned it. But I liked the first part so much that i've decided to publish it with a few modification. I hope it's still enjoyable, even if it's easy and short. There's a lot of bubbles to collect (some are hidden), bouncepads and of course magnets. Here are some screenshots of the level : http://i4.lbp.me/img/ft/c34e8cb4ac0e332bb5b9d52e35219f403ff6bdcb.jpg http://ia.lbp.me/img/ft/98a61a738d10ee699b2dbe7a70bd8cb3d0aef454.jpg http://i3.lbp.me/img/ft/7a3281bc35f77b6510cc20db556ddcb0aaa7f457.jpg Thanks ! http://lbp.me/v/0mqvp1 | 2011-05-28 21:20:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |
Hi Slurm, just played your level a few times and liked it.. very clean looking and everything worked. Really liked the wood material used which looked good against the direction blackboards. The 4 jump section after the first main cut scene I did find challenging... liked the player sensors on the score bubbles which rotated..cool. Decent level, it felt slightly short, but I can appreciate the amount of work you put in already.. Cheers. | 2011-05-29 13:13:00 Author: Flatbadger Posts: 68 |
A pretty awesome level and I really liked the way it worked using followers I mean magnetic forces to move the objects. My only real complaint is that towards the end when you get super charaged I was looking forward to charging through the level with puzzles based around that but you let me down dude you let me down. | 2011-05-29 13:48:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thanks both of you for your nice feedbacks. I know it feel short and that the magnets could be used to create a lot of cool puzzles, but this was not working as well as I expected so 2/3 of the planned level was cut (in the planned version you were able to turn magnets on and off, and you were also able to switch polarity). I can only tell that some of the abandonned ideas will be used in an upcoming level. anyway thanks for playing and giving feedback ! | 2011-05-29 17:14:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |
Good initial theme with the bubbles following you and the stuff on the chalk board behind you. Nice way to set up things without heaps of text. Would have liked the first button you jump up to press one layer forward as a double layer move is a little awarkard. Not sure why the first hazard has a lever apart from keeping in line with your theme I guess. Jumping off the magnet was pretty easy to press the button so I tried to jump out and it triggered the cut scene? and I was still on the magnet so I slid back to the start point. Going through the hanging grab part was a nice challenge that wasn't too difficult but did get me killed through my own bad timing and misjudgment which is good. Entering and levying this part has a little bit of a too hard of a camera zone lock. So I ended up jumping out of it and off of the screen for a few seconds. Nice use of secrets. A quick little points reward for paying attention to the environment. The Holo door magnet switch was nice and has potential as a great puzzle element. Hello first puzzle! I'm glad to see you. But I did have a little trouble going back down the ramp due to layer switching? maybe open a trapdoor here once the puzzle is done. Very cool little room I walked into, but it makes me nervous whats the cutscene doing to me. It looks like it going to be something epic. A little disappointed that I didn't become a weightless sackbot that floated between magnets.Would have liked to see more pay off from going into the machine. Not a fault of the stage, as it's a great length and a fun play through. Replay value, not so much as there isn't really much difference in getting a massive score or anything, but fun to grab the extra secrets no the less. | 2011-06-01 11:49:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
Thanks for your detailled feedback ! You raised some interessting points and I'll consider tweaking the level in some sequences (change camera settings, trap in the puzzle (even if you can already jump down on the right side of the puzzle, did you noticed thant?), add a bigger effect during the cutscene). Jumping off the magnet was pretty easy to press the button so I tried to jump out and it triggered the cut scene… and I was still on the magnet so I slid back to the start point. Just a quick word about it : I'm aware of this issue, but I didn't find a solution yet. Still thinking about it I'll check your "Miserable Flying Weather" level soon. Again thanks for playing & givig this helpful feedback ! EDIT : I've made a small adjustement for multiplayer. This level was not designed to be signle player but I realize that i've designed it alone, so the puzzle doesn't work well in multi and some cameras may be annoying. If you play it in mutli and have trouble with the level, please let me know so I can fix it ! | 2011-06-01 13:02:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |

this level looks interesting, will add it to the queue and provide feedback soon if you can check out my latest level, "nature's solitude" which is more of a scenic relaxing level. link below in my sig thread https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=57280-Nature-s-Solitude thx, J | 2011-06-24 23:23:00 Author: juscallmeJ Posts: 77 |
Very clean looking and fun level! The magnets are a very good idea and you can make a lot of puzzles using them. Also you could add some camera effects and magnetic walls or something like that: just as if you were walking by the ceiling. It could be funny and crazy hehe Please leave me feedback at my level https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=56955-Math-Millionaire-Quiz Regards ^^ | 2011-06-25 11:08:00 Author: ara_que Posts: 63 |
this was an enjoyable level. nice clean visuals and easy gameplay. one thing i wasnt sure what the purpose was of the box of lights just before the end even though it was a cool visual effect. good job. | 2011-06-26 20:48:00 Author: juscallmeJ Posts: 77 |
Nice level, liked the central theme of magnets. Alternating and activating magnets to allow passage added a nice puzzle element to the platforming action. The customised bubbles really adds a science class feel to the level. I managed to finish without any bugs or glitches, even managed to find a hidden bubble run or two. Where I think it could be improved is in losing the smooth wooden veneer which really does nothing for the level and using the material changer to add a more metallic interface with spot effects and generated electric flashes etc. Maybe taking inspiration from Poms Brainwash TV as a visual interface. smooth fun level. | 2011-06-27 18:18:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Epic!!!! I think the secret areas for points were kinda obvious, but when sackboy himself becomes the magnet its kinda sweet, so i wish you did more with that, and like stations to change sackboy to positive or negitive to help navigate the level! Hope this review helped! Wow, it may be short, but this a very original level. I particularly like the parts with the the yellow gates that turn the electromagnets on/off. The level design was very nice and clean, great for learning a new game concept. There are no bugs, as far as I saw, but there is one major problem. Neat level, and great concept. There were a lot of cool puzzles in there and they were a real blast to play. The visuals were clean, and I didn't see anything out of the ordinary. The bubbles were a neat little addition. The secret areas added quite a bit of value, and interest to the level. The Super charging cinematic was really neat, but a little disappointing that I didn't get to do much with it . Overall great fun level. When you get the chance please give some feedback of my level The Topiary Tower Tragedy | 2011-06-30 19:54:00 Author: optimafrogg Posts: 98 |
Played this level last week, but have been pretty busy so didn't have time to leave feedback. Played it again today, so before I forget, here's what I think. I love levels like this where the sole premise is to offer fun (sometimes challenging) puzzles and nothing else like story etc. I did really enjoy playing it, the magnet concept has tons of potential and what was there was very much varied. A particularly nice touch were the magnet points bubbles, and the plethora of hidden areas invoked a little bit of thought. I did have some complaints but it seems you've addressed what I was going to say in your original post. The end was a bit anticlimactic as the scene where you become magnitized happens literally right before the end. I understand now you probably intended for a lot more to happen with this but obviously give reasons why you gave up. All the same, I really enjoyed what was there and it's very polished! As F4F could you please play my level The Water Temple: http://lbp.me/v/1m6fp5 Thread on the forums: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=58385-The-Water-Temple | 2011-07-03 20:46:00 Author: Xaif Posts: 365 |
Thanks everyone for the nice feedbacks. I've returned feedvback on requested levels. @everyone : I'm currently working on 2 levels that will use the planned puzzles previously designed for this one. One will probably be released at the end of july, the other... in september. I'll let you know once they're out. The magnetic stuff will only be featured in the september level. | 2011-07-05 11:07:00 Author: Slurm Posts: 262 |
Howdy Slurm (nice choice of username BTW ), Played this level yesterday. Very aesthetically pleasing, a nice "clean" look to the level. I like the spinning prize bubbles and the secret areas. Overall, a nice little platform/puzzler. You have some good ideas in that head of yours. Hopefully, your next level will be a bit longer. It's always nice to see people come up with new puzzle ideas, keep up the good work! Could you please play my "You Sunk My Sackleship" level (3rd one down in my sig) with an online friend, and leave some feedback? Merci. | 2011-07-06 18:30:00 Author: Ali_Star Posts: 4085 |
