My Album Cover

Archive: 6 posts

In a recent assignment for my ICT course, we were tasked with making an album cover for a band that we could make up. Here is what I came up with:

So, do you like it? Could I improve on anything? Is it too simple? Boring? Hit me with anything ya got! I'd like constructive criticism for future assignments!

I don't want to sound to harsh or anything, so I'll try not to sound to (I don't mean it in a bad way by the way, just a constructive way).

As a graphic designer I can tell that the design is quite basic, usually things like graphics are used to sell something, obviously. For a start, what sort of band did you make up? What genre? From the image on your album cover you can't really tell what sort of genre it falls in to. Sometimes the title links in with the imagery aswell, giving you an insite in to the artwork.

The font doesn't really work well either, it could do with spacing certain letters further apart so that it doesn't make it looked as squashed. Spacing the letters can also give it extra meanings, making it closer and further apart give two different feels to the over all artwork.

Haa but I'm being very critical, going back to what you originally said about it being for an ICT course then it isn't going to be the bestest thing in the world, and I'd never know where to start with anything to do with IT, haa so each to their own I suppose.

What year are you in for your IT course?

I remember looking back on my first designs and they were really shocking to, everyone has to start somewhere.

p.s. sorry if I sounded a little harsh, I wasn't meaning to, just giving you some heads up on improvement.

Thanks for the replies! dibby, you aren't harsh at all, an honest opinion is great. I'm only in my first year of my ICT course (Year 9), so my work won't be anywhere near the heights of other graphic artists. The assignment was only really there to make us learn Photoshop. However, I can tell you that my work is a dayum sight better than some of the other people in my class.2011-05-28 19:42:00

haa that's cool, thats the sort of way to get you in to photoshop and everything. If you get in to that and learn it, then learning all the other adobe software is a peice of cake because they all look the same, with the work space, toolbars and options. The only real tricky thing is layers, but they even become easy after awhile.

If you need any help with anything adobe related, just ask, I know how to use all of them, even the tricky after effects which is used for creating animation and video.

p.s. It's actually alright for a year nine student, my work back then was shocking haha. I just used to trace things, you can get a way with a lot doing that!!
