New Adventure: Save Al's Pants

Archive: 13 posts

This is a new 5-level story I've been working on since last year.

What starts out as a simple quest to save a pair of pants from unruly apes, turns into a quest to save the universe from a machine capable of destroying other LBP creators' levels from the very internet.

These levels took over 50 hours to create altogether, and they're finally finished! Please play them and leave any feedback you have. Thank you!!!

Enjoy the trailer!

OMG what a totally over the top EPIC trailer with heroic music. Really impressed and with it being a 5 level story and all that effort I really hope people take notice of this. I;m adding it to my que now. Will play it tomorrow. You're a way faster creator then me, I'm still working on my first one.

UPDATE: This is becoming a joke I can't que it stupid Sony maintainable again. But I definitely will once it's back up.

Hey I sort of ran out of time playing your levels so I don't think I finished them. But I found two areas that need changing and a major black out when I went left to see if any point bubbles were around elsewhere, instead of going right. Your levels have a great story behind them but I will definitely replay them and take pictures of the areas that I had problems with. Your cut-scenes & characters are good.

Also I noticed a lot of your pistons and attachements are showing in play mode. So you may want to make them invisible. Still a decent level and I will give you a full update later once I get back to it.

You have a great level BUT I was unablle to finish it. I persevered and still ended up quiting back to my pod a few times out of frustration. Which is a shame as I can tell how much time you have put into it and your character work, sackbot recordings and cutscenes are impressive. Also how you blend the themes together with a nice story twist.

Here are a few pics of the two main areas that has problems:

This actually caused me to quit your level. Due to the grappling hook swining back and forth this in turn meant that the switch too moved back and forth, on and off. So this meant that the rising platforms too went up and down several times without actually reaching the desired height so I could step onto it. This was extremely frustrating. There is no other way to flip the switch other then to swing whihc means you swing back the opposite way making the platform go back down. The best way to stop this is to attach a counter that is set to count up to 1. This acts as apermananet switch. So no matter how many times you swing or move witht he grappling hook the platform stays up.

In this picture I was unable to continue as the platform to the left did not come back down, trapping me in that area with no way to get out or continue. When I was on the platform going up I either came off it or accidentally fell into that area from another hazard. May be set the piston with a player sensor so it goes up when a player is on it, then back down when a player is not in range.

Other then that your have a great sense of humour and a great level with a funny story. Just a shame I could not get to the end. I hope this helps and I hope you get more plays. I wouldn't mind playing it again once you've had a chance to tweak it.

I haven't actually published any levels yet. So I don't have a clue how you've managed to add my levels to your queue?

Also I 've made several copies/back ups so you may not be seeing the correct one when you visit my moon.

Ouu sounds interesting! Queued!

Played, unfortunately it bugged on me. Enjoyed the intro, played for a short period and after being asked to go to the volcano and press triangle to continue, nothing happened:/ was pretty patient, perhaps servers went laggy right then :s

Did enjoy what I saw tho

Well, it's a year later and I've fixed most of the bugs you all have listed.

If anybody still sees this thread, please try my level. I've updated all 5 parts and fixed many errors (apologies if there's still a few kinks in places). Let me know what you think or if you find any more trouble spots.

Thanks!!!

I tried playing through your level three times se?or s****y but I ran in to the same problem each time... Just as I approached the vertical beams of (what I think was going to be) the bridge a lighting switch was triggered and everything went black (the same lighting that is activated during the title)... All I could see was the water, my glowing eyes, and one or two checkpoints... I couldn't progress at all because of this. I did manage to blindly swing on something only to fall to my doom.
The story intrigued me since it quirky and fun but this bug is just too big to try and ignore... If you fix it, just let me know and I'll attempt to give it another run through...
After you get to fixing that feel free to check out my levels (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=72941-Metal-Gear-Sackboy-Unraveling-Stitches) (if you're still doing the F4F... I see that the original post was made a year ago).

Hmmm...thanks for letting me know. This bug has occurred before, but very rarely. Never 3 times! I'll check it out again and try to nail it down for good. Thanks for trying. I'll fix it here shortly.

And I'll certainly try out your two levels; I've already added them to my queue.

Thanks again! Let me know if you manage to get through my levels again.

EDIT: Ok found the problem - had an oversight on a player sensor that should have been built with a one-shot switch. Shouldn't happen anymore. I'm playing your levels now, will leave feedback in your thread you linked to. Thanks!

I'm playing the level now... I'll type out what I run into as I go.
The problem was fixed this time around. The level has a rather unique story line that I quite enjoyed. I think that the a few of the cut scenes could use a bit of an update though. The cut scene where the monkey is about to push the security button looked good but the hologram version of Al wasn't completely covered in sticker so it threw off the illusion. I liked the idea though. That cut scene retriggered (minus Al and the talking... just the camera pauses) after I went to push the button a second time... I wanted a picture of me getting blown to bits. Try attaching a destroyer tool to a clear sticker panel and stick your cut scene cameras to that. Connect the button to the destroyer tool and you won't have it retrigger. The other cut scene that needs some attention would be where Al is walking in front of the pics in the background. Him not verbalizing what he was saying kinda threw me off.
The area where you use the jet pack proved to be a bit too easy because the electrified pistons didn't go up high enough to actually kill me. I'd extend their reach just a bit to make the hazard a bit more challenging.
During the Monkey's speech in front of the panel of rebel monkeys a word is bleeped out early on... I imagine its not a bad word but look into it (I had the word "opened" bleeped in my Act 2 for some weird reason).
I think I was supposed to hit 6 different vents but the cutscene was triggered after a single successful hit.
The ending was great!!! All in all, it was a fun level. It needs some polishing up here and there to clean it up a bit but other than that the level is enjoyable. Nice work!

Thanks for going back and trying again!

I'll have to go back and check how I have that set up. I thought the cameras were linked to a sequencer in the monkey's microchip. When you pass by the checkpoint at the beginning of that floor a sensor switch sets off a one-shot counter that triggers the AI talking and going through that scene. It shouldn't repeat when returning to the checkpoint. Hmmm... thanks for the heads up.

The other cut scene that needs some attention would be where Al is walking in front of the pics in the background. Him not verbalizing what he was saying kinda threw me off.

I have tried many times to get that to work properly. Something about having the camera follow him and him speaking is not working correctly. I'll look at it again and see if I can come up with something new.

During the Monkey's speech in front of the panel of rebel monkeys a word is bleeped out early on... I imagine its not a bad word but look into it (I had the word "opened" bleeped in my Act 2 for some weird reason).

The word is "analysed" and I've fixed the text a half dozen times, and it always goes back to bleeping it out. I've changed the word also, and it still bleeps it, or another word, out. No idea why. Very frustrating!!!

Thanks again for playing, and thanks for the feedback. I'll go back and check/fix all these areas. I'll be sure to head back to your levels again and see if I can get through the rest of them.
