PS3 data transfer query...

Archive: 6 posts

Where to begin... What I am trying to do is import my data from LBP1 into LBP2. My dilemma is that the LBP1 data is on my old YLOD playstation, which I intend to fix (Gilksy method), and I will therefore need to do a data transferbetween my old PS3 and my slim as LBP data is copy protected.

Obviously, I'm going to need to back up all my existing game data on the slim first so that it can be replaced after it's overwritten. Does anybody know how much space this may take up or if, indeed, it works?

Thanks all...

Since you'll be entitled to 60 days of free PS+, you could try backing up your LBP1 profile to to PSN server and just downloading it to your Slim. I believe that that method is a way to get around the profile copy protection. I've been told that if you have no LBP1 profile data on your receiving drive (the Slim), you can back the old profile up to a thumb drive and copy to the new machine without any copy protection issues (someone correct me if I'm wrong on that).

The data transfer is only really intended if you want to seamlessly copy all data over from one machine to another, and the space required can be quite large if you have things like downloaded games, videos etc.

Ps Plus only stores data like backup levels so you probably couldnt do that.2011-05-27 19:34:00

Thank you very much... That is another way of looking at it... Most definitely better if it works! Although, I've already tried the thumb drive method to no avail.

The ps plus method is most definitely worth a shot even if there is some doubt as to whether it will work.

One more thing for future reference, just in case.
The data transfer usually takes a lot mainly because of the installed game data, as it backs that up as well, along with everything else, by everything I mean EVERYTHING.

My recommendation when trying to do this is to delete all the non-LBP Gamed data, as its what takes the most memory most of the times, (NOT save data.) and manually transfer music, pictures, and videos first, delete them from the old system and now your "full system back up" will be a lot less than it would've before, that's what I did and only had to worry about a few GBs.

Hope that helps!

Good luck with it, and you can actually back up your profile with PS+ (I back mine up all the time)
