So my Ps3 finally yellow lighted...

Archive: 9 posts

I'm surprised it lasted 3 years, but anyway...

I'm wondering about the best fix for it. I heard that it's cheaper to have a 3rd party fix it instead of Sony for data reasons and how cheap it is, but I'm not sure about it.

Any suggestions?

You've got the price part right, but getting your PS3 fixed by a 3rd party source is always risky. They may not fix it very well, and get you another YLOD.
I suggest that you pay the full price, and take it to Sony. Just to be safe.

True.
Unless we go with the other plan of my brother/3rd party fixes it, buy a new PS3 or used if it comes to that, then transfer all the data over to the new/used one.

That's what I did with my YLOD. Took it apart, slapped a hair dryer on high heat, low speed and heated up the cpu and graphics processors and put it back together. That revived it long enough to make a backup and do a transfer.

Exactly.
Thanks for backing this up.

Dont send it to sony if you want your data; you wont get your ps3 back. Find a reliable 3rd party, do some research if you want any chance of recovering the data. I lost a level i spent well over 7500 minutes on because or YLOD. Let this be another lesson to people,

Back your data up on USB or some external drive.

That, or remove the hard drive from the Ps3 before sending it in.
But I'd rather not.
