A Day at Aperture Science [With Portal Gun]

Archive: 6 posts

Hi Forum,

I love the Portal Series so i made this. Complete with a Portal Gun! It is basically a platformer and puzzler. I hope you like it, this took me a long time. I would like a good review so i can improve this level.

I loved the portal gun and the puzzles involving it, but I didn't really see the point of the part beforehand. People will be playing this for the portal gun, so why not give it to them straight away?

Also at the beginning of the level I fell through the scenery after hitting a bounce pad when you get the grappling hook. And while jumping across the boxes I kept getting stuck in some cardboard gantry-type structures. On a side note, what's with all the cardboard? It doesn't really suggest a high-tech science lab (although I've never played Portal, so maybe there's cardboard all over the place, I don't know).

Finally the biggest problem was that when I reached the scoreboard and the level link I couldn't activate either of them, so I was forced to quit.

Overall I'd say this level is really fun and it has loads of potential, but it really needs polishing!

Well, this level has a good potential. Portal gun was very nice, but for some reason it is not works in some places. So, I advice to work more on level's design, exceptionally part with a gun. You should make it more like a real lab, and pay attention for everything. I strongly recommend you to make a full level, dedicated to only a portal gun, cause it is realy good thing. So, I will agree with all what Corchito said.
Part before wasn't so interesting, as I expected only a portal gun.

P.S. You can feedback me back by playing this (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=57176-More-Electricity-More-Gems-Meet-Generator-Room-2!) level, which is extremly underplayed as well.

The beginning of the level doesn't exactly capture that "Portal" atmosphere. While it is funny, and i love the sackbots afraid of the giant cat, it just doesn't feel like portal.

Once you switch to the sackbot girl with the portal gun, it starts feeling a lot more like portal. But there's only like... 2 puzzles... Portal is a game known for its puzzles. This felt like it had this huge build up and then was like...yeeeah nevermind, here's your scoreboard.

The portals themselves were kinda buggy, i couldn't walk past them without getting pulled into them, and i couldn't see where i was shooting half the time because the cameras weren't zoomed in enough.

The music was awesome but you said you didn't make it so that's disappointing lol

Keep up the good work anyway! You're only one step away from getting that Mm pick or crown or whatever people are trying to get these days

Hi BeaversLikeWood (and sorry about my english),

I played your level yesterday, and have to agree with the feedbacks above mine : the first part doesn't really capture the Portal spirit, and the only thing you can think of while playing it is "When will I get the portal gun ?". Once you get it, it feels more like portal, but saddly, there's some bugs. I wasn't able to finish the level as the Companion cube disapear while entering a portal.

I know it's a lot of work, but this level would be way better if it was more focused on portals and puzzles, and if it was more polished (cameras during the puzzles, portal bugs). Anyway, keep the good work, I'll give this level an other try if you make some update.

If you have the time for F4F, here is the link : http://lbp.me/v/zpr0wd. Thanks.
