why do when emitting something at a distance emit going at an angle instead of straight forward2011-05-26 03:15:00

You will see that that is how all emitters work, no exceptions.

In further explanation: What you speak of, it is called Linear Velocity. This is the first setting of an emitter, after the object that is emitted.
"Linear velocity" means what its two words mean:

1) Linear - It goes in a line. What line? I'll get to this in a moment.
2) Velocity - The speed at which an object is moving. Velocity exists separate from direction. Direction is not a part of velocity, though people may say, In what direction is that velocity? (Actually, real people say, "Which Way Is It Going, and How Fast?")

The only place the game can draw a line is between the emitter, and the emission point (the "destination" of the object that is emitted).
When you emit something, it is like the object shoots out from the emitter, travelling as fast as possible, in the direction of the destination.
When it gets to the destination, the object's speed is knocked down to whatever the Linear Velocity is ... but the angle of movement remains the same.

You dig?

One way to get emitted objects to move how you want them to move, is through Movers.
Set the Linear Velocity to 0, and then use any Mover to push the object in a predictable direction (and speed) immediately after emission.

Alternatively, use Linear Velocity to send objects in the direction you want, but put the emitters at the beginning of the object's intended path.

You can also use gravity tweakers if you want the object to go straight out. It all depends on what effect you want to have.2011-05-26 16:59:00
