Run Away! F4F

So, I've published my second ever level and I'd like people to show it some love (or criticism if necessary of course!) In return I'll happily play and comment on your levels. Here's some information about it: It's inspired by Canabalt ([URL="http://www.adamatomic.com/canabalt/)but it's not a slavish copy, as LBP copies of other games generally suck! It's an extended action sequence that lasts the whole level. Basically you are always being chased by something and you don't stop moving until you reach the end. Stuff gets destroyed. This is one reason you only get one life. The other is to give a greater sense of danger. I'd particularly welcome comments relating to the difficulty. I can complete it without dying no problem, but then its my level! I want a lot of danger and things blowing up around you, but I don't want it to be unfair. So let me know what you think! http://lbp.me/v/0h-dgz | 2011-05-25 10:55:00 Author: Corchito Posts: 52 |

Thanks for taking the time to play my level dude. Enjoyed this run the gauntlet style level of yours...having said that I didn't manage to get very far after numerous attempts so you may need to ease off on the difficulty slightly to give the player the sense of satisfaction of getting into the level. Only other suggestion would be to add some background/ foreground objects that have destroyer attached triggered by proximity trigger on route to ramp up the excitement. Leave me a vm and I'll play it again after any updates. | 2011-05-25 16:17:00 Author: EnochRoot Posts: 533 |
Good idea with the destroyable objects, I'll see what I can come up with. Which bit did you keep getting killed at? I've noticed a few people have played it, but a many of them haven't got very high scores, so they must be getting killed quite early on. Any more detail would be appreciated, as I want it to be as exciting as possible, but I do want people to finish it! | 2011-05-25 17:17:00 Author: Corchito Posts: 52 |
Hi, just played your level, thanks for my feedback btw.. Thought it was cool and quite unusual, although tricky as only 1 life, which may cause people to reply (it did me), but sadly did not get very far! I tend to agree with Enoch as perhaps increase the difficulty as the game progresses, which does hook people into continuing and potentially playing over and over.. Personally I would slow down the ever chasing fire to give people more of a chance.. cheers. | 2011-05-25 18:42:00 Author: Flatbadger Posts: 68 |
Right, the robots you have to jump over are now no longer lethal and I've made some of the jumps easier. Hope this helps people to progress further! | 2011-05-25 19:54:00 Author: Corchito Posts: 52 |
Played it The Good: -Hilarious to play, and we played with 4 players btw -Challenging but not impossible -just funny stuff, loved the buildings falling apart The Bad: -lacks detail -Lacks lighting and other things This has really good potential, but it feels like something that was slapped together in an afternoon. I think you should keep adding decorations and background and other stuff and make this level really stand out. The buildings falling apart were too cool. | 2011-05-25 23:43:00 Author: Nick930930 Posts: 878 |
This level actually felt like some Ipod app I played a few weeks ago. Anyways, I enjoyed the gameplay, the challenge, and how everything was being destroyed. Some parts of the way you used the camera was well done too, I felt like I was not going to make it but I somehow landed it. The flying cars was a good idea too, it made the city feel futuristic. The only thing this game lacked for me was the background, it felt a bit dull. The building design was good, but I think you're own custom city background would have gave it some of its personal flavor. Though I shouldn't be speaking from my own lack of level design lol. | 2011-05-26 00:12:00 Author: Unknown User |
Thank you for playing my level and the review! Your level had an interestingly simple objective, but I loved the sense of urgency that was set in stone as soon as I took one step. Even though there didn't seem to be a valid reason to run (other than not wanting to die), I had a lot of fun with this! Granted I was by myself when I played this... The level had a simple design to it, but I also agree with EnochRoot, Nick, and Galaxyinapot; placing some exploding or breaking background and foreground objects would definitely add some more excitement to the gameplay. Some decorations and added detail would be nice as well, but seeing as the sole objective of this level was to speed past everything I'm not sure if that's entirely needed. It's worth a try though. Now, there was a point in which I was able to go behind the gas material and drop down into another part of the level; it was around the part where you could drop down from a metallic wireframe and grab onto a winched metal claw. I fell down there, went to the right while on the back layer and fell onto the area that seemed to be above the green tube cannon thing. I thought that was somehow intended, but as I bumped into a dead end when going downward into the building I felt that I had found some kind of hole in your design. ^^; Fun level nonetheless. | 2011-05-26 07:10:00 Author: Qrii_Nakari Posts: 204 |
This level actually felt like some Ipod app I played a few weeks ago. Are you sure it wasn't Canabalt? That's available for iPhone I believe. If it wasn't then you should play it because it's awesome (and free!) http://www.adamatomic.com/canabalt/ Any similarity is purely intentional! Thanks for the feedback! I'm not much of an artist, but I'll have a look at putting more detail into the level. I originally tried to do my own background, but it looked rubbish, so I just used the Metropolis one as it was the sort of thing I was looking for anyway. I've added your level to my queue. :-) | 2011-05-26 10:31:00 Author: Corchito Posts: 52 |
Now republished with extra (exploding) roof furniture and other items (that explode). Please give it a go and let me know what you think! | 2011-05-27 18:38:00 Author: Corchito Posts: 52 |
