Little Big Theme Park - V1.1

Archive: 6 posts

Hey guys and gals!

I'm new to the forum and wanted to say a big HELLO first and foremost!

After dabbling with various ideas in Little Big Planet I settled on the creation of a working rollercoaster with a chain that lifts the carts to the top of the first drop. I had seen lots of various rollercoasters created using rockets and wanted to try and make the physics work for real by using the momentum of the first drop to get the ride to work.
Ultimately the first attempt needed a little boost from a rocket to get up the lifts following the first loop  but the second attempt works more on it's own steam!

I wanted somewhere for them to live other than simply having levels on my planet so I created this theme park!

It's a work in progress but I have created (in my honest opinion) some cool contraptions based on real world rides such as:

2 rollercoasters (Accessed via level links)
1 Ferris Wheel (sequenced using logic gates to stop periodically)
1 Reverse Bungee
1 Top Spin Thrill Ride
1 Crane Game
1 Monorail to the exit
*NEW* DODGEMS BATTLE (multiplayer via level link)

The idea moving forward in further versions is to add a dodgems multiplayer game and a ghost train to complete the theme park/funfair.

I have played a LOT of other types of theme park and rollercoaster/ride games and think that, to be frank, a lot of them stink and I wanted to advertise here rather than just let people see it on the new level list and think "another crappy theme park level."

Please have a look, honest feedback is welcome (I have no illusions that this is a perfec level, but I have faith in my rides!) and most of all ENJOY!

Cheers

very good explanation of your level. I would add some pics though, to further entice people. I have added it to my queue and will play it when I get the chance. Sounds good though.2011-05-26 03:20:00

Cheers Biorogue - I hope you get a chance to play it and let me know what you think.
As requested here are some images I took this morning before work to show you the basic elements of the level.

Sorry about the quality of some of them, they were taken in a rush over a bowl of shreddies!

Great concept of a theme park with main rides linked of a central hub. The mechanics of the rides work well emulating the experience and thrills of their real life counter-parts. A fun, relaxing level where you can try what you want or move onto the next attraction.
Some suggestions:
Make the main hub brighter with more mini games, food etc.
More acting and randomness from the sackbots already present.
Add more sound effects to bring a fun atmosphere of laughter, shrieks and other funfair noises.
And maybe some use of the extra layer tool in the hub would add more depth.
Thanks for the fun.

How do you only have 1 heart as a creator? You should have about 1000+ with a level like this2011-05-26 20:54:00

Cheers for the feedback mate, I've just about finished the dodgems level and will be going back to look at the layout of the theme park.
Will definately be adding more sounds and random sillyness from sackbots present!
I haven't played with the glitch layers yet and they frighten me a bit - especially when creators like yourself do such a fantastic job with levels like the colossus (I played it two days ago and loved it - will write a review after I have played it again tonight!)

Cheers mate!
