Mt. Champion

Hello everyone and thank you for reading

On this level sackboy is goes to a mountain on a island to become a warrior. In order to do this he will have to face some bosses and jump some platforms in the spirit world! Some photos are down below if you want to see what the level looks like. This level is fairly easy and it can be a quick play and was actually fun to make. I did not intend on publishing this level, but I enjoyed the way it was going and thought to myself that maybe it can face the wrath of LBPC j/k. Once again thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy playing my level. Hopefully I can play some of your levels too.

Hi - just played your level...
liked the mountain climb at the start and good use of materials and quite liked the music, which seemed to fit well..
liked also the meditation section which led into a kind of sepia floaty room with less gravity, I found that quite easy...

The mid point boss was cool but went crazy with the lightning etc.. found myself dying loads due to the boss standing right below the checkpoint..
From then on in, it was a dark section with neon platforms, then to be honest I could not get past the fire and didnt finish it.

Thought you did have some good original ideas in there though.. hearted and yayed.

cheers.

Left a review.
A word of advice: play the level as you add new stuff, to adjust it.
And remember that it's even harder for players not familiar with the stage.

Liked the diverse level, though. It really has great potential.
Needs some tweaks.

I just played your level and I really enjoyed the gameplay. There were a lot of unique elements in the level that I haven't seen before which I really liked, and there was a lot of variety with the boss fights, platforming, and puzzles. I thought the meditation and door breaking sections were really cool too where you go into your own mind, it was really inventive and unique. The second boss fight I also really enjoyed and there was a good mixup in his attacks.

However, I think you need to work on your visuals. There wasn't any sort of backdrop and the background was left as just the default blank blue background, maybe throw some clouds in there and pick a background that you like to spice up the level. The wall in the background of the mountain climbing section was entirely blank too aside from a few cracks, more could be added there as well. The progression seemed a little awkward too because it transitions from a Caribbean island section to an alpine mountain over a few feet. The materials used for the houses seemed a little odd as well.

Overall I thought the visuals needed a little work, but the gameplay was great! I look forwards to seeing what you can create in the future

Hi Galaxy, I really enjoyed this level. Lots of variety and challenge and I appreciated the philosphical sub-text ( made a Zen level myself once and intend to return to the theme). The climb up the mountain was interesting and well thought out, love a bit of grapple action! Couldn't progress at the button push challenge as my game froze but just before that the orange / Tofu challenge was well implemented. For me the star was the silhouette section wherein you jump towrds ghostly images of yourself, that was brilliant in its concept and visual representation.2011-05-25 21:41:00

When making a level, I find it's a good idea to think of ways in which players may try to "abuse" it by playing in a way you didn't intend. I found quite a few unintentional shortcuts here, which I'll detail below.

The first "boss" (where you shoot the sponge on the ceiling) wasn't much fun. I couldn't be bothered to switch between the grappling hook and the paintinator as it was easier just to get killed and keep on firing. As there was an infinite lives checkpoint there was no downside to this strategy!

The mountain climbing was good fun!

When the second boss chucks platforms at you I found it was easier just to stand next to him and shoot him, thus avoiding the platforms altogether. His next attack was outrageously cheap, but easy to avoid as I just got killed, waited in the checkpoint alcove until it was over, then I just wandered up to him and started shooting again.

The journey into your own consciousness looks great and is a nice idea. I'd suggest pulling the camera back a bit, as the combination of massive zero gravity leaps and a tight camera means I ended up not being able to see where I was jumping to. Also there were a few bits that were just skippable altogether by dropping down instead of going across.

The tofu and orange challenge was nice!

Then I got tired of blundering around in the dark and dying a lot with no idea of where to go, so I had to quit unfortunately.

Finally, where was the level supposed to be set? It looked like a Carribean island, but there was a mountain for some reason. Yet the whole meditation theme would suggest an Eastern setting. Why not give it an Indian or Japanese theme, as there's loads of excellent scenery (and music) for both of these in LBP1? Plus the beach and the mountain would still make sense so you wouldn't have to change too much.

Sorry that sounds like a lot of criticism! Overall the concept of the level was great and there was some great variety, but it was let down in the execution. I'd definitely play it again if you tweak it a bit. :-)

Hello everyone! and thank you for all the feedback, unfortunately i'm just going to put this level back on the moon along with the other levels. I realized the other day after playing other levels that my level is just not that good and was not ready. The reason why i'm just taking it down is because the level is sort of a mess, in order to fix it with the theme, glitches, etc i'll basically scrap the whole thing and start over. The bosses and camera is no issue to fix, but I can never seem to get it right. It's sort of embarrassing as a creator to publish this level and expect people to take it serious plus play through the whole thing. I did take the feedback serious though, and it was the same thing as my other level when it came to designing. I'll just work on my designing for now and hopefully later on i'll publish a good enough level that people can enjoy. If an admin reads this, feel free to delete this post, sorry to waste your time everyone.2011-05-26 21:20:00

Nice level. Could use more visual boost, but has some interesting gameplay.

VISUALS:
The level could use more corner edits and additional stickers and decorations, but the silhouette part is pretty amazing (platforms in that area could be corner edited too).

SOUND:
Good music choices and good use of "Wise Owl" interactive music.

GAMEPLAY:
The climbing the mountain part is really good, and the boss battles are interesting. I think the second one shoots too much lighting, while there should be controlinator teleport instead of teleport death when going to the silhouette area.

OVERALL:
Good job, keep it up. A yay.

Don't be ashamed of publishing and asking for feedback - if everyone did that, level quality would improve 1000000%. ;-)

My advice would be to concentrate on ONE of the sections of your level and get it really good, then publish it as a standalone level. You could then work on the other bits and slowly build up your level by having each one as a separate stage using level links.

Don't give up, as there were a lot of very good things about your level. If you feel despondent, check out some of the crap that gets published in the New Levels (they always seem to involve that motorbike from LBP1 don't they?). You'll feel brilliant about your skills as a creator for days! :-)

I played it yesterday and it was quite intersting. The gameplay of the whole thing was rather nice, ireally liked the low gravity black and white part and the devil boss. I feel however that most of the original creations look kinda bad. The turtle at the beginning was a strange mix-up of materials that didn't really work, and the first boss was just a panel set on fire. Some detail would help a lot to achive a higher level of immersion. I also felt that the final part with yellow platforms had many cheap moments where i would simply fail to advance because the platforms weren't properly coordinated or they just appeared at the last minute.

So i feel the level has great gameplay but lacks in the look and balance fields. With some work it could be impressive

Edit: I just read the above post. Well good luck with your new projects
