Cybernetic Adventures Delta: Sackbotland

Archive: 17 posts

First metropolis, then forest, then steampunk, and now Amusement Park. In this fourth installment of the Cybernetic Adventures level series, you'll be in for fun ways to use the grabinator such as riding the zipline courses and solve some puzzles. At the start of the level, you need to get at least five-thousand points to enter the theme park by playing some fun games and find the coins (and optional a couple of secrets). In addition to the grabinator and platforming gameplay, you'll also ride a UFO where you must rescue the sackbots. Just like the other three levels, it features some cinematics, a boss battle, and some amazing layer glitches. Well, the whole series is a halfway done as all that's left is Epsilon, Zeta, Sigma, and Omega. Enjoy this fourth installment of my awesome series.

Nice looking train and introduction. I really liked the concept of having to gain access to the park by earning a set number of points. I like the backdrop but I think some areas would benefit if you used a piece of material as the background (just to mix things up a little. The puzzles were interesting a tad simple but still very fun (maybe try and make them like one more level more complex?). The virus drones looked awesome !(what costume parts did you use to build them?) The zipline parts were awesome. I enjoyed the diverse environments throughout the level. The boss was cool. Great work!

If you could play my new level Emeria (thread (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=56855-Emeria&p=853199) / lbp.me (http://lbp.me/v/yzfc42)) and leave some feedback in my thread that would be great. Thanks for your level!

Thanks, Sixaxes. Glad you enjoy the beginning, ziplines, boss, and anything else in this level. In order to make an Virus Drone, you need the "Tron" CLU costume, which so far you can only get in LBP2 Collectors Edition, but I heard there's going to be the "Tron" minipack soon which I'll be waiting for because I really enjoy both movies and the costumes and stickers looked awesome. I'll add a bit more details to this level and check out your level. Thanks for a good feedback.

Hey, JustinArt. I've gone through all of the Cybernetic Adventures series so far, and I'd like to say that it's a pretty cool series! I think it's kinda funny how each characters' names were intentionally made to alliterate and related to hardware. Max's gibberish voice kinda annoys me, but then again I wasn't sure what other voice you could replace it with if you had the choice. I did like the fact that for this particular section of the story, you were able to incorporate a way of sorta showing a progression in time by letting players play some mini-games before going back to seriousness. The little hidden points carefully littered throughout the stage was fun to find as well! I'm not fond of the boss fight at the end, but the level still had nice gameplay that was enjoyable to play through.

For when you have the time, would you play through any of my levels in my signature? Ninjas of Karura is the one I'm mostly paying attention to, but feel free to play through the other levels and leave feedback if you wish!

I played it yesterday and it was rather great. I really liked the various locations, especially the wild west at the end. The boss was quite awesome though. The initial part looked a bit simple but it was done nicely. The part with the UFO was really nice. I'm only puzzled a bit by the looks of some areas, for example i don't really like the background with the giant red robots at the beginning, it doesn't really fit the overall look. Also every transition didn't look particularly interesting with just blue neon. Maybe a background hinting a the next location could work better.
Great level overall

I am glad I found your series. The scenery is excellent, the characters and story are interesting, and there are so many different gameplay elements in each level. Even though the puzzles are simple, your levels are just plain fun to play. Keep up the good work!2011-05-27 23:16:00

Huhu You did a great job at your level. And it is really nice looking. Can you please leave a feedback at one of my levels too: Musical Theater - The Phantom of the Opera - by Andrew L. Webber or First Musical on stage in LBP 2 - See the trailer now !
Both level you can find here in Level Showcase. Thank you, greetings Dini.

Yeah, the only thing that I should fix is the neon colors you mention. I used the background of the robots as a visual mesh-up on purpose, because back in the first three days of making this level, I tried to figure out where am I going to put in the beginning of the level in the Factory of Better Tomorrow background and it hit me in the head that I should feature the robots in a background and it seemed to work well because of the theme of this level, even with my Ferris Wheel and Roller Coaster 3D objects. Also, this level's thermo is almost maxed out (about 98% of it), so I guess I should use 0.5% of the thermo by adding a bit more visuals, just as long as it's not exceeding 99.99% otherwise it'll end up like Alpha where random problems could rarely occur. Glad you really enjoyed it, though.

Hello there! This is a response to your F4F request on my level Heavy Metal (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=57200-Heavy-Metal-(v.1.0.3)). I've played a few of your other levels in this series, and each one seems to vary quite a bit. I enjoyed the lax style of gameplay, focusing on playing minigames for points and simple platforming and tasks. The boss fight was unique and made me chuckle. Great work. 2011-06-01 04:44:00

Thanks for reviewing my level Cuckoo-Clockwork-Quarter (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=56880-Deliver-me-from-Eve-Cuckoo-Clockwork-Quarter)

I played the latest installment in your Cybernetic Adventures series. Great stuff.
I really like the fact that you are telling a large story, with engaging NPC's, interesting villains and well made cutscenes. (Throwing L.O.L. was funny.)
The puzzling gameplay was simple but enjoyable.

The admission cost to the funland is a cool idea. Playing the minigames to get in there, bit of a Golden Saucer-vibe, ' take a break from saving the world' .

Music and sound effect were well-chosen.
Your environments could use some more details imho, but everything still looked good.

I'll be back for epsilon.

Thanks, Xero11215 and Pickled-punk. Glad you enjoyed. I added more visuals to this level including a few "Tron" stickers and more of those arrow sign decorations. Also, I forgot to make the checkpoint near the closed mine cart ride active when you enter the wild-west area, so that has been fixed.

Hey Justin
A wonderful level with lots of variety in gameplay. I liked the amusement park motif, it was executed well with the 3d glitch. I'm not caught up with the story, but the level was fun none the less. It was fun to keep going just to see what kind of gameplay was next. All the mini games were executed well, and fun. I enjoyed this level.

That was a great level, the presentation with the storyline was laid out well (as in it didn't interrupt gameplay), and the platforming was right on! Plus, the boss battle at the end was insanely awesome, great boss design right there. It wasn't too difficult, but it wasn't easy either. Awesome job!2011-06-16 04:59:00

So I've finally got round to leaving some feedback! I played this level over a week ago, but haven't really had the time to come and leave a response. I forgot what I thought of it so I played it again today, and while it's fresh in my mind...

I loved the level style, it's the first level I've played that has used the same style as the factory levels from the story. I also liked how it used other components from the story with the tracks near the start when you hang on, and the flicky parts etc. The door changes were effective and resulted in the level being hugely varied both visually and gameplay wise.

I have a couple of complaints - I was disappointed with how little the sackbots were used, given it's called Sackbotland I was expecting lots of fun puzzles involving an entourage of sackbots. I find though most of the puzzles involving sackbots could have been achieved by something else. I have an example to demonstrate what I mean. Near the end there's a section with a sackbot in a cage to the right, that you throw the rock off to open the cage. You have to throw the sackbot onto the switch to blow up the wall on the left - this could be achieved with same brick you use to open the cage but it disintigrated when I tried to do it. Is that intentional to stop the player from doing this, and forcing them to free the sackbot? So a limitation was invoked forcing the player to do it way intended if that makes sense. I hope that explains what I mean.

The other issue is that it's too difficult to ace the level - not that much of an issue really in the grand scheme of things, but I thought I'd mention it. It's on the bull boss (which is really well executed) that I had difficulty, the first time I played the level I died a few times but put it down to noobiness. Second time through mind I don't think that's it. The pattern is unforgiving and from what I can tell completely random in both timing and choice of projectile. On two occasions I went for the bomb, threw it off the bull, and then had little to no time to react to the fireball afterwards. Personally, I think it would benefit from following some sort of pattern (if it is now, it's not a very obvious one) so the player has some way of reacting. Like I say, acing doesn't have any direct impact on the quality of the level, but I didn't have anything else negative to say so i thought I'd mention it.

Overall, really fun level (both playthroughs were enjoyable), I'll play your others in the series at some point.

Justin, i just played through the lot of your "Cybernetic Adventures" stages, so if i can leave feedback on all of them as a piece here?

First off, you've done a really great job with the platforming and level design. Things feel nice and open, but not empty, which is a tough balance to pull off. Your use of decorations as both texture and gameplay elements is also top notch. The secrets are well hidden, but not frustratingly tough to find.

Most importantly (i think) you do a really good job communicating to the player what you want them to be doing. i never felt like i didn't know where i was supposed to be going. At the same time things were still semi-challenging, so there was no feeling of hand holding for me. This, too, is tough to pull off, but you've got it pitch perfect.

The only problem i have with your stages is the consistency of the bosses. The Alpha and Delta bosses are great fun (especially the Delta one, good use of the infinite scroll technique), but the Beta and Gamma ones... The Beta one just doesn't seem to do much of anything, there's not much feeling of danger or action there. The Gamma boss is tougher, there's a bit more action, but the slow reload time on the rocket launcher combined with the conveyor belt constantly throwing off your aim makes it a bit of a chore killing him.

Over all, i think you've done a great job with your stages and i really look forward to seeing the next ones. It seems like you show improvement each time, so Epsilon should be great.

If i could trouble you to try out my "Bloomin' Oni-Ons!" stage and put a bit of feedback in this thread https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=59257-Bloomin-Oni-Ons!, i'd really appreciate it.

Thanks in advance and have a good day!

*Tiny tiny language note: there's no simple 's' in Japanese, so Koji's family name should be "Yuesubi"

Thanks for the feedbacks, kaiju-Kid, Jdsfrog, Xaif, and Waffleking23. I just updated this level with added decorations and a good change. I now included the R1 hologram that appears each time a boss begins to fire the grabbable bomb.2011-07-05 23:03:00
