Review # 17!
Sackbot X - The Game --- Version 0.14 by Sir_Linque http://lbp.me/v/yf6nv8/

When I decide on what to review I generally like to choose levels that have less plays then others. Because If I did a review of a popular level everyones played like Blast Radius or Super LBP Fighter 2 Turbo no one would need the review. This level however, deserves much more recognition.

Before I begin lemme give a little info. If your a gamer chances are you've heard of Megaman. The popular franchise by capcom known nowadays for the Star Force and Battle Network series originally started on Nintendo's NES. The series then spun off into a separate series on the SNES (Before all this modern day stuff) called Megaman X. Which was basically megaman but with more focus on story and more advanced gameplay. Nowadays no one knows about Megaman X as it's about dead.

During the review I will reference the Megaman and Megaman X series.
The level is in its Beta phase, But I will give a new review if and when the project progresses, as only 1 stage is playable.

Music
One thing synonymous with Megaman games are amazing, catchy music & you can't expect a fan project to have the same levels of greatness that the composers at Capcom can create. But it does a darn good job trying. The songs in the level are catchy and have some of the flair of the original Megaman games, yet still sounding different in its own style. Throughout the level I was humming the songs. It also fits the atmosphere greatly. And the sound effects do there job well. I can't wait for the rest of the project just so I can hear the other tunes the composer will make.

17/20 (Starts Humming music*)

Atmosphere
The title screen shows Sackbot X standing on top of a building, like in Megaman 2. Something that questions me about the project is whether its trying to emulate the classic Megaman series or the Megaman X series. The Bosses are original and seem fitting for the Megaman style. The stage designs look good, though you can see LBP stickers used throughout. It works well with the background. The enemies look good and lighting effects are used well. It's presented good, sort of mixing megaman with LBP.
26/30 (Great)

Gameplay
Throughout the level you shoot various weapons at various enemies and traversing various obstacles. Currently only 4 weapons are usable. The weapon variety is good. I think the Sack Buster controls a bit off. Its hard to explain but it feels off. I like how you can charge the weapons. Not just the main weapon but ALL of them. Just like how you do in the Megaman X series. The enemy variety is pretty good, though some of them can be frustrating. The platforming is what bugs me the most. Unlike Megaman the controls in this are not spot on. It feels like you fall down a little too abruptly. It takes time to get used to it and can turn people off.
Basically Once you let go of X your going down like a weight. I think the jumping could be ironed out because a lot of cheap deaths can occur because of it. Moving around also feels slightly delayed. I like how there are 2 bosses, one in the middle and one at the end. The bosses have patterns that you can memorize and react to, which is great. Power ups are placed very well, For example before the miniboss theres a large energy hexagon you have to jump to, which can be tough because your above instakill lava.
If the controls were ironed out I think the game could be better. But as it is its good.
36/50 (good)

Final Thoughts
If your a huge fan of megaman like I am, you've got to play this level. The music, graphics and gameplay will feel familiar to you. Its just a great homage to one of gamings finest. I can't wait for the final game (assuming it comes out).
79/100 (Great)
