A Malevolent Tale

Archive: 46 posts

Myself, Prattz, XTrophx(Joey) and Jayhawk_er have been working on an entry for LittleBigPodcast's MTG contest. The deadline is very soon so we have began publishing and unlocking things as we get them 100% finished. Will try to get some pics up on lbp.me soon.

It's a story on how the characters from Little Big Planet 1 ended up in Eve's Asylum and spans across several levels. The collector attempts to atone for his sins but quickly gets tired and a dark plan comes into action. Play it to find out the rest!

Thanks for checking this out.

It was incredibly fun to work on this with you guys, and I learned a lot of neat little tricks that I'm sure I'll start using now.

Here are some photos from the first 2 levels, just because I can't figure out how to upload photos in the intro, like PSYNTENS did, and I wanted to put a few photos on here.

Hey guys i dont have words for this, i was see ur its degrees were doing work for this and longed to play it can be because i knew the result would be exceptional, it is a very funny story, creative and especially well represented, a very good use of characters as LBP2 LBP1, materials, ideas, obstacles, music all together actually makes them one of the best levels I've seen in LBP2. Good luck in the competition and truly wish you all the work is well rewarded with a well-deserved crown 2011-05-23 05:53:00

After watching all of you slave over this entry, It feels great to see it published, even though I didn't make it!
I loved the cutscenes, gameplay, and scenery when I visited you guys in create mode, And I can't wait to play the actual level for myself
I'm proud of you guys, keep up the good work!
Alrighty: Played your level:

-I have yet to see anyone animate a cardboard character as well as you guys did. I am still trying to figure out how you made the Collector run around like an actual sackperson.
-The humor was lighthearted and funny, but not funny enough to ruin the mood. (I still love that clothes hamper gag!)
-The menu system was awesome, and the level select was one of the coolest things Ive seen anyone do to a menu, ever.
-The actual levels were amazing. The gameplay was top notch, and I loved trying to get the bubble combos while I bounced around on the bounce pads.
-The visuals were awesome. You successfully acheived a MM style look from both LBP, and LBP2 world themes.
-Gameplay was nostalgic, but fresh at the same time, and the Meercat boss was top notch fun
-The story was beyond any other contest entry. Im being serious, you guys totally came up with a flipping amazing Plot, which Im sure will land you major points in the contest.

I will deffineatly come back to this when you guys get the boss battle working. Can't wait to see the ending!

Good luck! (I doubt you'll need any! )

You did a fantastic job, guys! I didn't expect this at all when I began watching the Introduction level (I mean, I knew it'd be another excellent level, but not that funny! ) What I loved the most are all the (not so) tiny details, such as the Collector's eyebrows and the King's and the Queen's eyelids (when they're tied up). The way they move really adds something to your level. You really had me in the stitches! I also played the first level too, but not thoroughly because I was in somewhat of a hurry and time was running out, I didn't expect the intro to be that full!

Great job, and good luck for the contest you're not going to win! *nose becoming longer *

Played it yesterday and everything about it is amazing. The intro movie, the levels themselves, even the music I adored (plus you've made we want to play it again to win it). Very clever with the story too, which is always good.2011-05-23 16:09:00

Brilliant execution on this project. You guys successfully recreated the vision and feel of MM's levels while adding in your own flair. It really felt like some sort of official expansion pack to me. Great work!2011-05-23 20:37:00

Yeah! Panda Force Four! I've loved reading all the reviews and comments, and thanks for all the nice words everyone. Honestly my favorite part of making this was learning I'm not too bad at using the music sequencer. Making your own music is fun! ... And not to mention joey basically rediting all my songs so they actually sounded bearable but hey, who cares about that?2011-05-24 00:21:00

For the record... OneEyedBanshee and Joey stayed up all last night it seemed like finishing the final level. So if you wanna give it a whirl:

Understand they were crunched for time, but to be honest, I think they did a phenomenal job.

Man, this level series is seriously epic. Brilliant job!

VISUALS:
The prologue movie is ingeniously well done. The animation of the characters from LBP1 are really funny and clever. The levels has the same visual style as the story levels of LBP1 and LBP2 combined.

SOUND:
Brilliant custom musics. Whoever created these masterpieces deserves to win an award for best custom musics. Great usage of cinematic musics and interactive musics, too.

GAMEPLAY:
The gameplay of the levels brings back memories of playing through LBP2 story levels. The giant evil meerkat boss battle at the end of level 3 is brilliant, too.

OVERALL:
This series deserves to win the contest. Looks like we'll be seeing more of the series soon, judging by the ending of the giant meerkat battle. A and a <3.

EDIT: Hey you already got the final level finished. Can't wait to check it out the next time I'm on LBP2.

I saw there was another level, so I went to the main level and went on the Level Selector, and I can't work out how to use it. What am I doing wrong? Also, I've got the 'March of the Bees' song and I love it, I listen to it while I'm creating 2011-05-24 20:27:00

It should be in the level hub, if that doesn't work visit XTrophx planet to find it. But really we ran out of time and that level is not as good as we'd hope for. So after the contest we are going to make it far far better. Just press x on whatever level after selecting the level select menu. Scroll with left and right on the dpad.2011-05-24 21:53:00

I just played this series moments ago, and I was incredibly blown away by the high amount of quality painted throughout this masterpiece! In fact, calling this a masterpiece is an understatement! The narrative was done fantastically well, and I loved the humor and cinematic effects! The gameplay felt so unique in a way that I was willing to play through the entire series again! The only thing I was confused about was Eve's "accent" in her dialogue; I got the impression that Eve was French instead of Spanish... But other than that, the level of detail was phenomenal! I'm with JakePutz; I'd be very shocked if you guys didn't win the contest.2011-05-24 22:18:00

Thanks! Joey probably did the most with the music, we listened to all those songs probably 300 times each while we were working on the levels. We all pitched in to make them sound good throughout the entire thing, and changed up some stuff, added percussion etc. To help each other out.

Also, I've got the 'March of the Bees' song and I love it, I listen to it while I'm creating

Haha my favorite of all of them, probably because I was mostly in charge of making that one and I'm biased and stuck up about myself

That would be the result of me not being able to make a good accent haha. I actually had her saying Monsieur Da Vinci at one point, luckily the rest of the team caught it and put me in line.

Thanks again for everything nice everyone has said. It really makes you feel all warm and fuzzy when after so long people acknowledge hard work

I cannot complement you enough on the entire series. It was absolutely fantastic. The dialogue was well-written, and the scenery was just beautiful. I especially liked when Eve's Asylum was transformed-stunning. And the gameplay was just plain fun. Excellent work!2011-05-25 23:20:00

This is probably the best story I've ever seen in LBP. The characters are re-imagined to pure perfection! The 'thing' that really sets this level apart, is the level of animation in the characters... particularly those big ol' eyes. These characters truely ACT, allowing us to see the story through their eyes. (and what good storytelling it is!) The directing is flawless. The camera work superb. Transitions amazing, and it all flows without a hitch. I would love a tutorial on the sequencing used here. That everything is beautiful looking only adds to its designed charm. Seriously, you guys took this game to a whole new level. Congratulations one and all. It far exceeds Mm's own work... so score yet another one for the community!2011-05-28 19:53:00

That has to be the best series of levels ever! I felt like I was playing MM's levels. THAT'S HOW GOOD THEY WERE!! My favorite part was the LBP1 remade scenes.
EDIT: They were much better than MM's! (No hard feelings MM staff...)

Glad you enjoyed it and thanks very much for recording those

Eve sounds so different! Wonder if the people saying she sounded more French heard a different version. She definitely sounds Spanish in my version.

Also in the title it says "by OneEyedBanshee", it's by me, Prattz, XTrophx and Jayhawk_er. Dunno if you can fit that in, if not remove it or put PF4(Panda Force 4). If that's possible, thanks!

Have you ever hyperventilated because of a level- due to its sheer awesomity?

I came pretty close when I watched those cinematics. THEY WERE GREAT!

When Frida the bride was destroyed in slow motion........... I ASPLODED!

(Well..... I hope it was slow motion...... my connection does have a tendency to lag....)

These levels is just nuts.
NUTS.

The cinematics are all perfectly timed and it baffles me on how you managed to make things flip, move and glow so smoothly without busting the therm instantly.

Usually I hate overly flashy levels and movies (they take forever to get to the actual action), but I've been humbled by the funny intro and sweet levels. It's good in my book.

You've got to show us how you did some things, like the warp gates. I am just baffled at all the big efx.
