Different Shapes for tag sensors etc

Tag sensors/player sensors etc can only recognise things withing a circular/semi circular (and so on) range at the moment. But I think it would be useful to change the shape of the sensor range to a square, or triangle, octagon,etc etc. Sure, you could make a square from 4 semi-circular sensors, but that's using 3 extra sensors.
Would be a simple thing to implement, but quite useful. What does everyone else think?

How about making a hologram hitbox of whatever shape you need and using impact sensors which require specific tags?
Remember to set the impact to include touching though.

Having a square shape was the main reason I was thinking it. In my two levels so far, I've had a Lights Out puzzle, and Checkers (not-so-subtle hint: please play my levels ), so having a square shaped sensor range would have been very useful.

I can see no reason why this would be the case; analogue signal functions as a matter of closeness to the tag. This can work with any shape--notice that it works with non-circular shapes already.

an axis aligned quadrilateral would be an insanely fast check internally. Regardless of shape you could do a distance check to get the analog signal - which means regardless of what shape you'd end up doing a "circle" check anyway...

That's the reason the tag sensors see in a circle, it's just a simple check if the distance is less than the radius of the circle. Other than that, I guess we can get away with using polygonal hitboxes with holo. Though it'd be a faster check if you could directly test the hitbox against the point of the tag instead of the mesh it'd be on.
