Hiding checkpoint lights?

Archive: 8 posts

Is there a good way to do this?

For a level I'm working on I've built little checkpoint, uh... houses? huts? whatever. Little bits of decoration and material so my checkpoints have a uniform look through the level and fit within its theme.

Part of that decoration includes some holo that lights up, and the checkpoint light interferes with that. I'd like to hide it if at all possible.

I grabbed theck and thack from Aya's Garden of Goodies, and while thack almost hides the lights, it doesn't quite obscure them completely when placed in front of a checkpoint. Any thoughts? I'd really prefer to keep the whole thing to one thick layer (plus a thin layer behind for the checkpoint to stick to) if at all possible.

(Oh, and I realize I could do this with sackbots and steal the way comph did checkpoints in Wizard, but I'd really rather not if I can avoid it, because the next level in the series involves water and the poor dears don't like getting their circuitry wet.)

If you're happy to hide the checkpoint completely, you can emit it into a foreground layer, IIRC, and you end up spawning in the front thick layer.

Presumably you could also emit into a background layer, and spawn in the back thick layer.

It may also be possible to shrink the checkpoint to a point where it's invisible.

Pshh... pure genius! I would have NEVER thought of that! Looks I have my next little test to perform.

Unfortunately the emitting won't really work as I'm far enough into the level that there are checkpoints in all layers. Plus the logic required to emit a cp on player death would make my head hurt.

Shrinking the cp (using the emit-and-shrink method) only allows me to get it as small as a 1x1 small grid. It sort of works, ish.

I wonder if placing a thin layer of a walkthrough glitchy material in front of the cp, and pushing a piece of thin (from behind the shrunk cp) to push sack through the walkthrough would work. Seems like an inelegant kludge though. Hey Mm, feature request: more tweak options on checkpoints!

And I just realized that wouldn't work because of the thin layer in front hiding the cp. Grar!

And strikethrough isn't a supported tag! Grar!

Yes it is.

Also, I am interested in this thread for the purposes of science. I'd like to hear the results of your testing to see what sort of issues you're running into. Any chance you could post a small pic of what the object looks like?

Razzinfrazzin BBCode. (Also, it doesn't show up even with the advanced editor as a click-to-get-this option, so I assumed the BBC version wasn't supported. Anyway...)

Yeah I'll take some pictures. Honestly the only issue I'm running into is visual; because I have some light-up holo in front of the checkpoint (a necessary thematic fit for the level), the light of the actual cp interferes with it. I may have to give up and just hide it with a decoration, if I can find something that works.

Sigh. Why does nobody ever read?

Twenty-three minutes before you posted:
