Is LBP1 forward compatible?

Archive: 5 posts

This might be a daft question... but I'm sure most are aware of the freebies Sony are giving away due to the PSN downtime, and LBP1 being one of these. My question is, if I were to unlock the materials from LBP1, would they become usable in my LBP2 profile? Can you import data to an existing LBP2 file? I've been considering getting LBP1 for a while now, so what Sony's doing is ideal for me (glad I held off), the only reason I want it however is for the materials and other creation objects, I couldn't really care about the story mode or anything and if I'm unable to use the materials in my existing LBP2 profile... well, there's no point in me choosing LBP1 as one of the downloads.2011-05-20 18:55:00

Your true quastion is if LBP2 is backward compatible.... ofcorse and fully both profiles and levels (except story levels, you need to go to LBP1 to play them) ;] if you have LBP2 but not LBP1 then i really recomad you to grab it, there ton of items there that might be useful for you. But if you use LBP2 already there might be problem, don't import whole LBP1 profile just collectible items option in settings menu of LBP2, orelse your LBP2 profile might gone crazy.

Forward compatible would mean that LBP1 can run LBP2 content, which it can't so it's not future compatible, but LBP2 can run LBP1 content .

Yeah, you can import LBP1 data to an existing LBP2 file; I believe the option to do that is in the Start menu.

I love how convenient it all is.

I guess forwards compatible wasn't the correct term... But it's nice to hear that you can import materials, I was under the impression you could only import when creating a LBP2 profile, not on one that has already been made. And I totally overlooked the import option in the settings menu! You're right, that's where it is, thanks for the info. Need the PS Store to come back now, can't wait to get my hands on the goodies. LBP2 is missing a lot of basic materials - the selection of stone materials is pathetic!2011-05-20 21:15:00

Just to add my two cents...

Before you import anything from LBP 1, I'd recommend backing up your current LBP 2 profile to your HDD. You know, just in case the game decides to delete your LBP 2 profile data in favor of your LBP 1 data...
