Help with a Switch... Please.

Archive: 5 posts

I've searched for info on this and found nothing, so maybe somebody has a solution..... I'm trying to figure out how to create a system that will work in the following way:

I want to have 2 to 4 of the Red switches placed on the floor, and have them activate a light when pressed, but only the switch that is pressed first So when one is pressed then all others become non-functional.. At least until the first switch is released... I would imagine this is possible and probably easier than I think, but my tiny brain is overheating during every attempt to build it. Thanks in advance!

The only thing I can think of is having a standard set-up of pistons attached to blocks. The switch set to directional and pushes the block towards another switch.

The second switch would turn on the light and emit a block in front of the other pistons. That way, even if another person gets on, the piston cannot push the block because the emitted block is in the way.

Sorry if it sounds confusing. The only thing I am not sure about is how to get rid of the emitted block if you want this to happen again and again.

No, not confusing at all, I'll try that and see what happens, and try to find a solution to the block removal.. thanks2008-12-07 01:15:00

Make the block dissovling with a magnetic switch on it.

Have the key right beside it on reversed piston.

So when they get off the piston slides up and dissolves the block.

I don't fully understand the system being described... by red switch do you mean the simple button press type?

Do you want the other buttons to do something else after the first one is made clear that it's the light switch button? If so, do they do something else after the first light switch is decided or while it's still being pressed?

Once the light is on, do you need it to stay on or to turn off at some point?

I'm going to work from the assumption that they are on/off floor red buttons, that you need any of them to activate a light which will stay on. Once the light is activated the buttons will become useless.

---

Have a semi-circle area. Place a block with a key on top of a disolve block. It does not matter what material the key block is as long as it's not dark matter or floaty.

All these blocks need to be supported, either by terrain or dark matter.

Attach the switches the player will step on to the dissolve, so when the button is pressed the material is disolved. The idea is that each button will attach to a different disolve pair set up, hence the semi-circle.

Have a magnetic switch that's paired to the key. You need all the keys to be the one colour, the same as the magnetic switch.

Place the blocks that will drop when disolved, the ones with a key, in a semi-circle sort of formation so that they are out of the range of the magnetic switch when they are on top of the disolve, but are in range when the material has gone.

Finally, hook up the magnetic switch to the light.

The idea is that if any button is pressed, it will make a magnetic key drop to within range of the magnetic switch, activating the light.

It will not matter now if the button is pressed again or others are pressed, the key is already paired and the light will stay on. But with this system, there is no way to turn the light off, and the buttons are effectively useless once the light is on.

Please let me know if I've misunderstood the situation or the description does not make sense. I hope this helps.
