So what do you think?
Personally I"m excited.

I'd like to dedicate this thread to anything regarding a new game engine.

If you have news, release dates or just anything on this topic feel free to post it here.

I realize there is a ton of information that I left out. But I'm not sure what pieces of info are true or just rumors. So if anyone could help find anything about these engines or maybe even one that I failed to mention, feel free to update us.

I love the attention to detail in the unreal 3 demo.

Also the lighting in both is absolutely insane. It's almost like you can see the thickness in the air. Like the humidity or fog. But not just any fog almost like the character feels it or something.

Well, it looks like we aren't too far from reaching graphic perfection. Then the engines will be remade for a better simulation... Maybe one day we can achieve virtual reality! 2011-05-19 00:41:00

Unreal is more visual oriented, where as the Frostbite Engine is physics based. I personally, cannot wait for frostbite 2. Who wouldnt want to destory and entire apartment building, then fall to the ground from the shock of the fallen building?2011-05-19 01:27:00

I'm more looking forward to the new Havok Physics Engine; Specifically Skyrim.
How a game looks is secondary to how it plays (IMO).

Console games will not look like that. Sorry.

You are right they will not look like that, maybe next gen but they will come close. From what I've been reading they say the ps3 is going to come very close. Xbox had no chance unless they announce a new console at E3. A ton of developers are very excited to work with the new engines. They say that with new technology they can really use the ps3 to it's full potential.

In a recent conference they asked Sony if any plans were in the future for a new console. They said of course we are designing and building the next console because of how much time and work goes into it but it won't hit the market for a while. They also said game developers are just starting to show the full potential of the ps3 and why would they release anything new when the console they already have out is just getting ready to shine.

Either way I'm excited, this year was and still is a great year for the PS3 regardless of the mess we've been dealing with. I understand they have to say that but I do believe Sony will recover and has already started the steps to recovery. I got angry just as much as the next person did during the downtime. For me it was mainly the lack of updates. I see now why they did what they did. During the last week and a half of the downtime they hardly gave us an update and when they did they were nothing special. But then out pf nowhere they flip the switch turning eveything on and they looked like the heroes. All the people that said "I hate you Sony, you suck, I'm selling the piece of crap and getting an xbox"' they all changed their view and opinion to "your the best Sony, I knew you'd pull through, you had the best console screw xbox". So if that was their tactic it worked well.

Sorry back on topic lol. Computer graphics have always been better then any consoles graphics. But you have to admit each console that comes out is getting closer and closer to being a computer. There are a lot of pros and cons to this. I'm hoping the pros will out number the cons. Only time will tell. Although I'm excited for these realistic graphics we will be seeing in future, I will always love an over the top unrealistic game. I hope they don't try to make everything look so real. I love insane explosions or out of this world gun fights, as someone said earlier graphics are not everything. A great game is a great game. I'm totally addicted to Minecraft and if you know what that is you know it's about as low as you can get for graphics but it's still an incredible game. If you have not checked it out yet I'll post the link below. I believe the alpha version is still free. If you do decide to give it a chance I strongly suggest watching some videos on minecraft crafting. Enjoy.

Also check out some videos of what people created. You can see the game has a ton of potential.
