Can LBP1 Data be deleted and not mess up LBP2?

Archive: 8 posts

I was clearing space off my Ps3 (Old files etc) and I was wondering if deleting LBP1 data would effect my LBP2 data, like missing materials, ETC.

I haven't deleted anything LBP related until I could figure this out.

Well I haven't actually tried this but I'm fairly certain as soon as you import LBP1 data into 2 it will stay in your data for 2.
You could test it by creating a new user getting a few things in the first one then importing into the 2nd. Then delete the save data utility for 1 and see if you still have it in the 2 profile, but be careful with deleting the "game data utility".

Right, I'll try that out.

Why do you people do this? My friend did it as well. I dont know why you guys think that deleting a 400 kb file is going to clear space. Then later you will be like, nooo I shouldnt of deleted it. Your save files are sooo small you may as well keep them. Just delete the game data utilities and not your saved data. Thats where all the space is saved because thats where the installs and patches are.2011-05-19 05:11:00

1.I have the 40 GB Ps3, you know, the older models.
I need to make space constantly.
2. Why would I say "I shouldn't have deleted it" If I have the sequel with all the stuff from LBP1?

I'm just asking if deleting any/all LBP1 data interferes with LBP2 data.

I see what Bourne_ is getting at.

SAFE:
You can delete your LBP1 installation data with no problem.

WARNING:
Do not delete your LBP1 save data.

Installation data is a hefty size (somewhere in the range of 3.5Gb) and you can always reinstall it, it's not tied to any particular profile. The save data, however, is very small (about 000.6% of the installation data) and the things that can go wrong after you delete it far outnumber the benefit of having "extra space". If you absolutely wish to delete your LBP1 save data, I recommend first backing it up on PSN+, which is currently a free service. You should do this anyway.

The most important thing to remember is that if you're playing LBP2 regularly, every single time you turn it on you run the risk of corrupting your LBP2 save data. It happens to all of us, and when it does, you will wonder why you didn't keep that little LBP1 file.

Good luck and weigh your options! : )

This is exactly why I asked. Thanks for the input.
So, unless I use the online storage with Ps+, I shouldn't worry too much of getting rid of any LBP1 files.

Ah well, guess I can scour my data and free up something else then.

As we've recently learned, online storage is at the mercy of the network. Get yourself a little USB thumb drive to back up data, then back it up again on your computer.2011-05-23 20:21:00
