I'm in a bit of a quagmire

Archive: 15 posts

Alright I need some LBPCers help on this.
I have a speech that I typed in school and saved on a USB. I planned to edit, revise and print it when i got home only to find out that I saved it as a Microsoft Office file when i should have saved it as a .RTF (Rich Text Format) Because I use OpenOffice.

Is there any file converters out there that can help me?

True. First off, at least make a copy of it, even if the file type won't open. Second, try google searching exactly what you're looking for to see if a converter site or a tutorial comes up. Next time may I recommend using "Google Docs"? If you haven't heard of it, it comes with a Gmail acount (it's free, just an email account) and you can type up documents easily on there and then copy and paste onto Microsoft Word or Mac's version when necessary. Hope you can figure it out I'm sure there's a solution.

OpenOffice should be able to open MSOffice files. That's kind of the point of the program. Have you tried opening it?2011-05-18 01:09:00

The problem is that he made it at school and his computer doesn't have the program I think.

Well, if it's what I think you're talking about, here, try this: 1 (http://www.freefileconvert.com/) But then again, I'm not sure if this is what you mean. Or this 2 (http://www.verypdf.com/pdf2word/pdf-to-doc/pdf-to-rich-text.html) And if all of those are wrong, also try this (http://www.nsftopst.com/open-office-writer-to-word.html)2011-05-18 01:20:00

I don't believe so. He said he saved it in MSOffice format (at school), but that he uses OOO (at home).

an easy way would be to send it to someone who has office and ask them to save it as an RTF for you, or any other file that can be opened by your computer. Can anyone on here not do that for him?2011-05-18 01:51:00

Snrm, did you actually try opening the file with OpenOffice before going through all this conversion stuff? The whole point of OO is that it natively supports all MSOffice file formats, so users can use OO instead but still be compatible with MSOffice standards.2011-05-18 03:36:00

This. I began writing my essay for English in MSOffice. Little did I know my trial was ending the day after. I opened up my file only to find out that my trial had expired and I could not finish it in MSOffice. So I downloaded and installed OOO and opened my unfinished essay and finished it in OOO. You should've been able to open it with OOO. Don't know why it never opened.
