Puzzle Rooms 2

Archive: 29 posts

I've just published my second Puzzle Rooms level.
Its taken me a very long time to complete it.

The idea of the level is to get to the green door in each puzzle.
There are many different coloured doors which have different properties.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=34194

The puzzles start off rather simple but get quite complex at the end.
There are 15 puzzles in total.
I've done my best to eliminate any bugs but if you find any then it'll be good to hear them.

I hope you enjoy.

If you would like feedback on your level then leave the details and I'll check them out soon.
Thanks.

Luckily someone has put a video up on youtube.
They've only put up 5 of the 15 rooms so it wont completely spoil the puzzles.

Many thanks for your feedback!

I'd actually already played your level before you asked! I REALLY liked this - the puzzles were challenging and engaging, and the style is simple and yet beautiful.

If you like puzzle levels, you really have to give this one a try!

I must say, I didn't have to to finish comepletely (I think I got as far as room 7) but I am definately going back to finish after work tonight!

[sorry about my poor english]

I've played your level earlier and loved it, absolutely loved it ! Hearted without an hesitation. The increasing difficulty was really well balanced, you managed to create really clever puzzles. I never felt frustration, just pure fun. Congratulations & thank you !

I saw that you already tried my level (the one with the soul) but didn't get to the end. Can you let me know why in my topic (the link is in my signature) ? I's ok if you did'nt liked it

Just like the first Puzzle Rooms, this level is awesome! You did a really great job of slowly ramping up the difficulty without the puzzles ever getting frustrating. I loved how the latter rooms would at first feel overwhelming because of the sheer magnitude, but everything would fall into place without any hassle. The atmosphere of the level was fantastic; the visuals were well executed and the music suited the contemplative tone of the level. As far as I can tell there aren't any technical problems with the level.

If you would like, you can check out my Ethereal Musings level and just let me know what you think via PM, no need to revive the thread. (Link in my sig).

I tried this level the other day. Certainly one of the more original puzzle levels I've played. I won't lie, I didn't complete it

Can't remember what puzzle it was where I got stuck.... it must have been fairly late on though.

It was everything a puzzle level should be, innovative and challenging. Quite a few times, in my head I was saying "That's cool" and "Oooh, clever".

The only thing I would say, is if you could make it a wee bit more obvious when a door has been activated. Maybe have the colour above the door go a bit brighter. I don't think that would make the puzzles a whole lot easier.

I didn't realise that the doors were awkward to see. Maybe its because I already know what each button does
I think the brightness is already at 100% so I'm not sure how I can make it more obvious without changing how the doors look.
I'll have a think about it.

Thanks for the feedback

Maybe you could make them darker when they've been activated. Or make them flash. I'm sure you could come up with something

Hi Steve,

just played your level and thought it was great!
Really tidy and slick looking, the tutorial cut was a nice touch also.

I love portal, especially at the moment as portal 2 is out and elements of this level reminded me of that..
The coloured doors idea is simple, but really works well... nice concept.

Your level is very original, clean and glitch free.
great stuff.

cheers.

Do you mean you cant sign in on lbp.me or you cant sign in on your ps3?

If you can get on to lbp then you can just search for it.
It'd be easier to search for my psn as there are a few levels called puzzle rooms.

Nice level! I completed all the puzzles too. it reminded me of portal just a bit. What helped was each door was color coded to avoid confusion and the simple, but clean design of the level prevented me from trying to figure out what area i'm in. I did not find anything wrong with the level except that the sackbot would not do a complete jump from time to time. Good job on the originality, hopefully this level gets a lot of attention. Yay, I finally got to play this. I only got to room 9 because had a baseball game to get to, but will be back to finish it. I loved the level so far, very clean, neat design. Well made puzzles that aren't mind numbing difficult and aren't too easy either. Great job.2011-05-26 03:13:00

Thanks for all of the comments

I've noticed that something has gone wrong with the level when I last published it.
For some reason the wires connected to the button and door lights seemed to have disconnected themselves.
The buttons should be red until you stand on them. The doors were also staying lit up even when they weren't activated.
It should be sorted now.
I've also fixed a problem were the player wouldn't respawn if the door that they should be exiting was blocked.
I had a tag sensor that didn't have a big enough radius.

Fingers crossed its all sorted now

Played it

The Goods:
-Beautiful design
-Challenging Puzzles
-Addicting gameplay
-Many different rooms
-Inspired by Portal

The Bad:
-If you let go of a cube in a doorway, you can break the level completely because you'll never be able to spawn in the doorway that the cube is blocking.

Thanks for the feedback.
I designed a failsafe to spawn the player back at the red door if the player tries to spawn from a blocked door.
It worked correctly for most of the level but wasn't working for a few puzzles at the end.
I had a tag sensor that didn't have a large enough radius.
This has been fixed now so hopefully there shouldn't be any problems.

I just had a look through the comments on my level and it was yours that made me fix it so thanks again

Which level would you like feedback on?

This is a really great level. The visuals are great, it's clean and neat, good logic, and the puzzles are fun. I'm impressed.

Could you try my level as well?

Hi.

Your level is very good and enjoyable!
The tutoria say red floors are dangerous, so at the begining I was a bit confused with red switchs on the floor.
Your puzzles are very clever!
Congratulations!
The hardest was 7, 13 and 15.

Good bye!

That was quite an amazing puzzle level you made. I remembered playing the first one back in LBP1.

VISUALS:
The level looks neatly detailed. The controllable Sackbot is well made, too.

SOUND:
Nice music choice for this level.

GAMEPLAY:
The puzzles are very challenging and tricky (It gets a lot trickier as you progress through the level). It also has great use of the paintinator. I managed to complete through all 15 puzzles.

OVERALL:
A very ingenious puzzle level with no bugs and no problems. A yay, a heart, and a positive review.

Great level. Challenging puzzles, clean design and solid game play.

I must admit that I gave up on 15 and exited. I couldn't see what I was supposed to do with the block after it fell through the yellow door (in the front layer at the top of the bottom right room). I reckon I was supposed to get it to the top right room and place it on the switch, but I couldn't see how.

The only suggestion I could make would would be to add a reset button to reset the room to it's state when you entered the room.

Overall, a great puzzle level that's well designed with a steady learning curve (although it beat me in the end).

I managed to do room 15! Very well done. The colour coding was really well done, but I wish there were more White doors, that seemed to be the only under utilised mechanic. I sort of forgot what they did each time I used one. I like that you drop the power up as it adds an extra element of puzzle-ness. It seems that it's hard to finish so maybe an extra reward if you do finish it...2011-06-27 11:03:00

Thanks for the feedback.
A reward for completing it is a good idea but I dont know what I could give.

I'll play your levels when I next get the time.
