Massive Epic Raging Destruction (M.E.R.D) 3D FPS Trailer

Archive: 27 posts

After my last 3d level I decided to see how well a FPS would look in the lbp2 engine . I created everything needed to make a fully working FPS but couldnt get the 3d camera to rotate so I decided to rotate the level . This meant that after a while the level would hit the levels boundaries and break . I decided to turn what I made into a trailer using a sackboot recording of myself playing for when/if the 3d cam becomes fully functional .

Hers the link to a trailer of the trailer LOL.

I hope yopu enjoy watching my merd and hopefull soon you will get to play with it .

You've done it again steve, you've made my brain hurt.

I can't even begin to understand how you and Special_D managed to pull this off, it's ****ing incredible. I know the censor's gonna cut that word out, but it's the only way I can think of to describe this.

Hard to give a review to because it's unlike anything i've ever seen, but it was pretty much flawless. Easily passable as an actual game in it's own right.

Thank's steve and Special_D for making this awesome thing! (P.S. Merd?...Oh steve, you never changed a bit! xD)

Also, to add a video click the "Insert Video" button that is on the text options tab, the one with bold, italic, underline, font colour ect.

Thanks a lot . I put the video in directly now. Im glad you like how it doesnt look like lbp2. Breaking through the percieved limitations of the tools is what I enjoy most . We had a lot of fun coming up with new visual techniques.2011-05-17 14:04:00

No prob.

So, is the plan to one day make it able to be controlled by the player?

If I get a functional up the level camera that maintains it perspective while rotating. Rotating the level leads to it hitting the boundary side and breaking up.2011-05-17 14:22:00

When Media Molecule made LBP2 i'm sure they expected/intended people to make some pretty crazy things. But this...2011-05-17 18:50:00

Apparently there was a working 3d cam in the beta. I didnt try it out, so I dont know if it had the ability to rotate and keep perspective.2011-05-18 09:31:00

How the fuuu-

That's pretty much what my mind thought when I watched this level, the entire thing was just mind blowing. I found your 3D racer level impressive but this was on a whole other level. If not for the materials and things that give it away it would be hard to tell this was done in LBP2 at all. Great visuals and atmosphere, I'm wondering what you'd do to manage to top this if it's at all possible. :O

Is the acronym (M.E.R.D.) intentionally like that? Because it is almost a bad word in italian, it's kinda funny. Anyway the level is shockingly good, especially the details.2011-05-20 10:12:00

WE NEED A NEW UPDATE!!

Seriously that local space camera problem has been around for FAR too long. It was one of the key features for me when I saw the first levels made in that community game jam event like that helicopter game and that TPS game. Both featured rotating cameras. I've got absolutely no clue how it came to be broken, but it should be an easy fix really. Even trying to work around the system by rotating the camera the other way makes it flip upside-down 180 degrees and act strange so I really want to see an update to fix this.

Wow, I saw this on N4G, this is very good work! I was wondering if you somehow figured out a way to rotate the camera in a fluid motion that I haven't heard of, but it's the rotating map mechanic (Which isn't bad, as you can see!); but this is amazing work, stellar work indeed. Inspiring, when I see levels like this it makes me want to go and create things some more. The wonderful effect of the community, haha. Again, awesome work.2011-05-20 16:27:00
