The Great Oak [pictures added]

Archive: 6 posts

Hi guys,
This is my first LBP2 level which I've been building on and off for the past few months.

It's platformer race to the top of the inside of an old oak tree, during a snowy winter evening. It's designed to be for one to four players though I've not had a chance to test it with more than one, so I'd love some feedback on how it plays with multiple sackfolk

It's full of grapples and bounce pads (because I love them) so if in doubt, grapple!

Here's a few pictures for you:

Thanks to those who played my level and rated it!

For those that haven't yet I'm trying to figure out how to get some proper screen shots to convince you But here is a photo I took during building to give and idea of the general atmosphere I've tried to create. I wanted it to be all warm and cosy looking inside, if a little run down, whilst outside it's dark and snowing (though at the point of taking this photo I hadn't built the snowing effect).

P.S, I hope this is ok and doesn't break the bumping rules, but I figured as I was adding images it would be ok.

If you want to post images, take photos in your level and upload them to your profile. You can then access the photos from lbp.me and just simply post the image links here.

I played this a few moments ago after finding it in L1ghtmare's hearted level list, and it was a decent race level. I found the sections of grappling upwards through holes sometimes made the pace feel a bit slow, but that only really matters if players are trying to go as fast as possible because it's a race. I didn't notice much snowy stuff though except near the opening area of the level either. Maybe to give it a more winter feel have small mounds of snow and stuff near walls that have openings in them looking outside such as by the wooden grid material in the screenshot you posted.

Ah great thanks for the advice on taking photos, I shall have a go when I play tonight.

The snow is only really visible through the wooden grid windows/holes and at the edges of the tree. Perhaps I should add more of these? I like the idea of adding piles of snow at the edges of the windows too.
In regards to the bit where you pull yourself up with a grapple do you think adding a short bounce pad to the bottom of each would help the speed/pacing issue?
Thank you for your honest input, it's very much appreciated!
