This was my epic easter project which meant I played far too much lbp and didn't get nearly enough revision done

The movie has a chapter select option available as it is very long (almost 50 minutes in total).

I would like to thank everyone who helped me with the project and especially Zohnar who was invaluable up until the servers went down

Warnings:
1) Potentially too scary for children.
2) Some flashing lights.
3) Controllers may turn off if left alone for too long, therefore pausing the movie.

I hope everyone enjoys the movie. It is to be entered for the Sackinima movie competition.

Ah, here's the 50-minute horror movie you were talking about before! I was anticipating this! I will find some time to set aside and watch this once the PSN comes back up in my region.

In the meantime and if you're able to, can you check out any one of my levels in my signature? I marked Devon Part 1 to be F4F, but I don't think that is necessary anymore what with all of the in-game reviews on it already. You can still leave feedback if you wish. Good luck with the competition by the way!

Since enough time has passed, I decided to post another response so that people are more aware of this thread (I'm sorry if this was not the right thing to do moderators).

I must say, wow! As soon as I dropped into the level, I didn't expect to be greeted by an eye-widening display of suspense ready to capture my heart! There were a lot of cinematic effects that were very well-executed, like the slow motion! I really enjoyed the clever uses of the Extra Layers glitch and the first person views that enhanced the sets and the story! I was able to predict the ending, but the suspenseful ways of execution leading up to that point threw me off guard. By the end of the movie, I couldn't help but notice my own heart loudly pulsating from the surprising realization. Fantastic job on a fantastic movie! And for the record, this is coming from a person who doesn't normally like watching movies. Congratulations on the Mm-pick by the way!

Nice level, buddy. I already left you an in-game review, so I'll be brief...

I had no problems with it pausing when my controller turned off, so no worries there. I got the twist ending pretty quickly, but it wasn't boring as a result. Nicely done. When Spaff heard someone made a 50 minute movie, he lost it. Congrats on the Mm Pick. You should know that Kareem sat and watched the whole thing... it said on Twitter (http://twitter.com/#!/LittleBigPlanet/status/70171167289389056):

Kareem just watched the whole thing "an incredible achievement, a great lighting, range of sets, perfect pace and mood"

I played this tonight and thoroughly enjoyed it. As someone who has made hour long flash animations, I can appreciate how much work goes into something like this. The sets were beautiful, the lighting was wonderful, the camera angles and pans were perfect. All in all, it was just an incredible level/movie. If I had to describe this movie to someone, I would say that it was as if the Sixth Sense, Fight Club and Heavy Rain got together and had a baby. A baby named Figment. ^_^2011-05-17 01:30:00

I just have to ask... the bullets being shot at you...

Was that a camera trick or a layer glitch trick?

The bullets are on front layer glitch holo blocks that spin... and the camera zooms passed them. I just happened to mess around with it until the size of the sackbot appeared not to change.

Although I have seen bits and pieces, really can't wait to see it all from a one go. From what I have seen, I am certain that technical quality of sets, use of cammera and writting is excelent, so I will be most interested in seeing how the pacing and narrative coohesion turned out .2011-05-17 10:52:00

Whoah... this is un-describeable...
It's simply AMAZING!! The atmoshphere, lightning, effects, plot, everything!!

Since it's Norway's national day today, (17. of may) i got much candy.
I put it on the table and brought my little sister to watch the movie with me

Sound 10/10 (some creepy stuff! and good music)
Visuals 8/10 (Small holes at some places)
Plot 10/10 (One of the most original stories i've ever known)
Other things 10/10 (special effects and stuff)

Overall: 10

The part when that guy,(himself) grabbed the key by sticking his hands under the door, creeped me out! D:

The camera tricks were very impressive and the whole thing looked fantastic! The lighting was very dramatic and I really liked all the sets.

'Grats on the Mm pick, you deserve it!

Amazing level! I posted a review on the level itself, but I would like to expand a little bit here. The beginning was engaging from the get-go and did not let up until the end. There was excellent attention to detail, which allowed the story to be front and center. I really liked how you added a little more to the incident each time a flashback occurred, and it is well-balanced with what is going on in the present. The end was gripping, with dialogue that was truly dramatic rather than cheesy. While the twist could be guessed from the title, the way you arrived at it kept me wondering. Your work with the camera was amazing-maybe you should make a tutorial about some of the great effects you achieved. Gave a Yay and a Heart for both level and creator. And congratulations on the MM Pick! Definitely well-deserved.2011-05-17 19:47:00

Finished watching the rest last night...after watching another chapter I just had to see how it ended. I think someone has been stealing pieces from the silverware drawer, that expensive set looked a little sparse. The shots looking up the lighthouse were very cool and overall I was very impressed with the cameras and tricks used, cool stuff. I wanted to mention that the chapter select did not work for me, when I started chapther 3 it started playing chapter 1...I used the skip menu option instead.2011-05-18 13:31:00

Watched the entire thing in one sitting, and I really enjoyed it. The length was enough to tell the story at a nice pace, and revealing more of the back story through flashbacks at various moments kept me interested in what had and was going to happen. I found myself swapping my opinion between whether the husband or the detective had done the murder during the first couple of chapters, but towards the end it became predictable enough to tell what had happened about the murder. However the way the ending was actually executed with the character flashing in and out and the suspenseful last days at the lighthouse was excellently done, and the music really fits well to the last flashback and the final scene. Nothing to fault with it, by far the most impressive and best movie level on LBP2. 2011-05-18 13:44:00

Ok, I have finished watching it, and I really have to applaud you one more time for the awesome work you did. Without doubt the movie's biggest strength is it's overall technical quality. It is really amazing what you accomplished with the layer glitch, and you have demonstrated rather effectively how important it is in creating all kinds of scenes which would otherwise not be possible. Your attention to details is also amazing and I have to say that the whole movie does indeed have a flow to it and everything is connected pretty well. Although I have some nitpicks (voice actor, not all dialogue voiced, some scenes drag a bit too much), but they are really not that relevant in the overall context of this movie being the best movie that has hit LBP2 up till now and probably till the next one you make. 2011-05-18 20:54:00

Thanks very much for the feedback everyone. I am so pleased that MM got the chance to watch this, means a lot to me after the number of hours I put into it.

It's interesting that many people have compared it to lots of different movies, many of which I haven't seen. A common one that crops up is 'Secret Window' which (from watching the trailer) appears to be about a man who copies someone else's story without realising it... spooky eh?

Anyway cheers for watching and I will manage to get round to playing your levels in a few weeks time when I get home.

Heh.
Great stuff. There is a bunch of cool effects and moments in there. Music and sound effects were perfect.
I loved the hand grabbing the key, and when that guy appears from behind that cardboard object (I could predict it was going to happen, but still gave me a fright!).
The bullets were definitely awesome too.

I wish we could all out on the horror genre, would make for some interesting viewing.. darn moderation..

Yep, really cool movie. Great mood and use of effects and music. The scariest part, for me, was the one with tha hand grabbing the key from under the door.
How much time did it take you to make this level?

Why haven't I left feedback on this yet?? Shame on me, I genuinely intended to days ago lol!

Anyway, I sat through the whole film, start to finish, and I am absolutely gobsmacked.

I agree with Stampy in that there are areas which drag a little, but the voice acting (or lack thereof) really didn't bother me too much. Having the narration voice-acted retrospectively, if you like - I think that was actually a nice effect. Made me feel like everything I was watching was a memory of sorts.

However, what REALLY impressed me were your cinematic skills, and how much effort was put into a few key moments throughout the film. It's my opinion that in any good thriller, you need to have one or two 'shock' moments, the memorable bits that you laugh/cry/scream/wow about with your friends on the way home from the cinema. My favourite bits, in spoiler form:

- The hands under the door. I can't begin to describe how much that simple scene creeped me out!
- The quick head-snap when Charles is spying on John (Sorry if I've got the names the wrong way around, it's been a few days!) - I'm guessing you used a quick change of a 'look at' tag for that? Great effect, very Exorcist-ish!
- All the final scene. I swear, I had goosebumps. Your use of music and quick cuts in this were spot on, and only afterwards did I even care about how you did it - I was so engrossed in what was going on that I actually got out of my creator head for a while, and that happens rarely nowadays.

Overall, a job fantastically done!

I watched this after a long hard day at work and thought it was an Apsolutely great watch.

This may have been a long movie to watch on LBP but it was worth it. Even though some things that happened were a bit strange and the twist was easy to discover early on it was still an amazing movie.
Hopefully now that it has been done and achieved great glory more people will make movies like this thanks to your efforts.
I can only imagine how long this must have taken to make and it hurts my head just thinking about it. My intro to my Space hulk level is only short and took me ages to get perfect so i really apreciate the effort you put into this movie.

I really liked the first person view and the 3d backgrounds. Hope you make more in the future. Definately worth 50 minutes of my time.

If you have time i would really appreciate it if you could play one of my levels below in my signature. Thanks.

Wow, unbelievable. This is... wow, I'm at a loss of words trying to describe this, this is spectacular.

The camerawork was wonderful and the set design was brilliantly done, although some pieces did seem a bit plain. The special effects were just stunning and they really contributed to the whole feel of the movie.

The plot was very good and did indeed leave me stunned at the end even though I had picked up a little bit on what was going on. The pacing was just right and the whole story was told quite well.

The Sackbot acting was precise and pretty believable, but I was left wondering why the characters were sometimes made to stand on the seats. I also noticed that Charles didn't really look like he was holding the gun at the end. The voice acting could have been better, but it was still definitely good.

The written dialogue was, again, well done, but wasn't perfect in terms of punctuation and grammar (correct me if I'm wrong); I'm a perfectionist, myself.

The music was very good and well-suited to the film. This and the sound in general kept the whole film captivating.

The menu was definitely a nice little touch, but it might have benefited from the movie title on top.

Overall, this is, without a doubt the absolute best movie in LittleBigPlanet 2, bar none.

HaHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA this was genuinely a masterpiece. As soon as the twist dawned on me I was thinking "Fiiiiight Cluuuuub" The way you executed this amazing movie was flawless, nothing was at all out of place or in need of improving. Especially, I thought that scene where John turns around when you discover him writing, followed by flashes of what looks like tv static, was it? Heart pumping moment And the last scene, where the mystery is resolved and John flickers into Charles; how did you do that? Just incredible!

Oh, p.s: What is the music at the end, and how did you get it? I thought that fit right in with the story.
