Weird Feature Request
Archive: 5 posts
Alright, this may sound endlessly weird, but this idea sparked in my head and I really want to find a way to execute it. What I'd like is a program that will allow my desktop icons to "slide out" from the left side of my screen (much like a slide out panel) if I hover my cursor on the left of said screen. Basically, the desktop icons would hide until I needed them, at which point I could use them and then "put them away", so to speak, when I was done. I've done a bit of research myself, with little luck, so any help you guys might have would be great. EDIT: I've found something myself, but it's very basic. I'd like something a bit more polished, but this (http://www.geocities.com/autohide_hompage/Autohide.htm) will have to do for now. EDIT 2: Upon further use, the above program is perfect! One mouse move to the top of the screen hides icons, and another brings them back. Plus, it hides the quick-start and taskbar icons until your cursor is actually hovering over the taskbar. It's pretty neat. If you have Windows, and you love a clean look to your OS without sacrificing functionality, download Autohide (http://www.geocities.com/autohide_hompage/Autohide.Icons.zip). | 2008-12-06 05:13:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |
Now i know this is nothing to do with me but why do you need this? | 2008-12-06 07:00:00 Author: Thee-Flash Posts: 3154 |
Now i know this is nothing to do with me but why do you need this? Because I'm a big fan of visual openness. I love a vast, open space that is also visually appealing. I get rid of the clutter and all I see is the wallpaper and my start bar. It just looks nicer when I don't need the icons. | 2008-12-06 08:01:00 Author: ConfusedCartman Posts: 3729 |

My friend uses one on his windows which is basically the same as a mac bar with icons and does excactly what you want. Looks nice too. I can find out the name for you if you want EDIT: I went ahead and asked him anyway. Here's the link: http://rocketdock.com/ In action - it's very cool. EDIT2: Okay, i downloaded it myself and played with it for a while - it's fantastic! Really handy Can pop up over all the windows open - can even put windows into it! So many customisable options! | 2008-12-06 14:54:00 Author: ryryryan Posts: 3767 |
