Easter Eggs in your levels
Archive: 25 posts
Do any of you ever include easter eggs in levels you create? I usually do. Most of them I still don't want to give away, but... In my LBP1 alice in wonderland level if you go through the level, get the red rose sticker, and go back through and put it on the first mushroom, you get infinite score bubbles. umm.. and (not really very much of an Eegg) on my new level, that I'm waiting to publish, there is an endless mode... it's not actually endless. But it would take APX 32 hrs to play through the whole thing. and after about 10 hours the game gets to its hardest point (81 enemies added to the screen every 0-4 seconds, and 3 extra enemies every half a second.) but if you were to survive all that and play for 32 strait hours, the boss would appear and you could win... | 2011-05-13 20:16:00 Author: Madafaku Posts: 738 |
That doesn't sound so much like an 'easter egg' as 'something that nobody will ever find, and if they do will never complete.' | 2011-05-13 20:44:00 Author: roux- Posts: 379 |

In one of my LBP1 survivals (the Liquidizer) I have a cameo appearance from the Shark Survival shark who swims past in the background midway through the level. I should start putting more things like that in my other levels. Easter eggs are fun. | 2011-05-14 00:32:00 Author: Nuclearfish Posts: 927 |
I usually put literal eggs, with my logo on them. I have one level I'm working on that has six colored '?' eggs... Sadly, I have nothing published. Oh well. | 2011-05-14 00:42:00 Author: JamesDNaux Posts: 757 |
lol i do that too JamesDNaux,i put a hidden coloured egg somewhere in the level, and alot of others that are just random creepy/funny stuff | 2011-05-14 01:01:00 Author: gigglecrab Posts: 232 |
In my Jumper level, once you go through the level link, a character has a couple of sentences about the upcoming hazards. I know people like to abuse sackbots, sooo when someone drags him to the edge and throws him in the hazards, it gives a Sackbot death cry and it says, "Awe, that was mean.", and awards them a couple hundred points. I saw a few people report in the reviews and comments, telling others they found an Easter egg, so, that was pretty cool. | 2011-05-14 01:27:00 Author: CYMBOL Posts: 1230 |
Easter eggs are loads of fun to implement and even more fun when you find one. I usually add in funny little secret rooms or even just some funny text from a magic mouth if you do some very specific thing. I know that in all likelihood no-one will ever find em but I like to imagine that at the very least, one person will and for that one person, it can be pretty awesome. Some examples of easter eggs in my levels include a "Red light district" in Jack and the Magic Beanstalk, a "Minus Zone" in Mario World 2-2, some funny Star Trek Next Generation references in Abandoned Freighter and loads more. | 2011-05-14 01:30:00 Author: FULLGORR Posts: 245 |
I think its a better option to hide things like this and this includes prizes. I'm forever cleaning my popit of untitled community objects that I had no way of NOT collecting. | 2011-05-14 01:40:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
Both my LBP1 snow monster levels have secret areas, and my first portal level has a secret companion cube with a knife, and my second has 6 secret areas to find. I need to make some full fledged LBP2 levels... | 2011-05-14 01:46:00 Author: UberOrbPS Posts: 290 |
In a pretty old (3+years) LBP level I made, I put in the "all knowing vortigaunt" from Half Life 2 to be found if one hops over a hard-to-spot pitfall. It was, appropriately, after climbing through a ventilation shaft. | 2011-05-14 02:53:00 Author: Ryuhza Posts: 355 |
I like putting in little treats. Even if almost nobody notices them. Detail, detail, detail. | 2011-05-14 03:37:00 Author: Maxi Posts: 1176 |
In my LBP 1 levels there were lots the more I think about it... Like in the teleport tutorial level there was a place where if you tried hard enough you could fall off the level, and you would land on the ground like when you normally fall off, but then if you ran to the right there was a teleporter to take you to a secret room full of score bubbles... And there were like a dozen secret areas, alternate paths, and other stuff in my "last LBP1 level" level (which coincidently due to the delay of LBP2 was not even close to being the last level I made, but then my ps3 died so they're now lost forever...) but yea in that one you got a sticker from the score board that you could use if you went through the secret underground passage and held on to the sponge that swings you past the rope bridge. you put the sticker on the sign, and it teleports you to a secret area where you can either leap of faith off the side and collect a hidden prize bubble or you could do the secret quiz game and get the other prizes, and a sticker that opens another secret area... | 2011-05-14 05:42:00 Author: Madafaku Posts: 738 |
If you grab me in any of my games I lethalize but not if slapped... In my sonic and zelda music levels I have tons of inside jokes and stuff for lols that people hopefully remember..if they played the games.. | 2011-05-14 05:58:00 Author: Dortr Posts: 548 |
lol i do that too JamesDNaux,i put a hidden coloured egg somewhere in the level, and alot of others that are just random creepy/funny stuff You make the most elaborate easter eggs I've seen, alas nobody will ever find them. I like to put a few easter eggs in each level, some more hidden than others. One time I made a hidden area with a spinning cutout of Obama's head... | 2011-05-14 08:01:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |

I remember that in my first level if you moved this thing that talked to the right you got a bunch of score bubbles. Too much, since it was my first level and all. | 2011-05-15 03:06:00 Author: GameRoom Posts: 200 |

My levels are packed with them. Gothic Reverie and Gothic Reverie 2 - I hid some pics of my daughter Ana-Lucia pulling a funny face. I consider them easter eggs rather than secrets since I hid them outside of normal game boundaries and they were never intended to be found unless a player accidentally stumbled upon them by fluke. Sackboy Proves He's Got Stuffin' - If the player stands directly under the waitress' skirt for around 10 seconds, she will comment that you are a pervert. Tenement (LBP2 edition) - I have hidden my name (UNGRETH) letter by letter in each room of the first apartment block. The letters are not written in straightforward font, but blended into the scenery so as to be deliberately ambiguous. Scrumpy Sack - The big guy who you feed apples to will groan if you grab him by the nuts. Space Assassins Vol.1 - There is an uber-secret brainwashing room which might possibly even condition the player to obey the creator (me) if they spend too long in there. To my knowledge nobody has ever found it, except for the few close friends who I have led there while playing with them. In fact they remain there to this day, drooling and twitching in a semi-catatonic state. Stiff Pistons - If you carry on dancing until the music stops then something very, very nasty will happen | 2011-05-15 09:01:00 Author: Ungreth Posts: 2130 |
I normally put something. Normally rooms with a prize bubble. In Labratory Attack, I had behind-the-scenes pics, and in Explosive Adventures I had a secret race if you found all of the areas. Oh, and Puzzle World had a Warp Zone, which also had a really hard puzzle that was donated to me by polloepilla (that wasn't his exact PSN, the capitalisation was different). I'm never good at finding anyone else's though. I find sticker switches are also good too, because no-one ever uses sticker switches for fear the player might not have the sticker. In an unreleased level, if you stickered a report the charcter would tell you that's a very important report and you'd get some points. | 2011-05-16 18:00:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
My favourite Easter eggs are simple ones such poster which make small references to other lvls games and movies often in some sort of ironic way, I,e, cake | 2011-05-16 22:13:00 Author: Megafig Posts: 52 |
So far, my levels have been so basic that I never thought of putting any easter eggs on them. That will probably change in the future, however The closest thing to a easter egg you can find in my published levels, is in the Star Of Fortune. If you are "lucky", you might trigger The Cake Monster (cake with an eye, which tries to kill you by its crushing power) when trying to get an actually useful power-up (10x points, stop/reverse rotation, or disable bounce pads) My current project (still unreleased + haven't allowed anyone in to the moon to see it) has an more elaborate easter egg already - if you hit the music switch (a bit like the old push-button light switches) too many times, it will explode, and reveal a hidden prize+a humorous comment from my IC (who uses things such as old degraded explosives as arc quenchers) | 2011-05-20 15:17:00 Author: OrwellianStuff Posts: 90 |
I like to stick other stuff in. Sometimes I haven't though. One of my favs was a fun little mini game I stuck in SE2 for bonus points if you found it and did well on the game. | 2011-05-20 15:28:00 Author: jwwphotos Posts: 11383 |
Ooooh, I always add tons of easter eggs in my levels. In Rolling Downhill 1 and 2, if you press L2+R2+Circle, the background starts changing color and the Nyan Cat theme plays. In Koopa Troopa Massacre, if you slap Mario at the beginning, Luigi yells at you. I always add the word "HAX" in all of my levels to places no one will be able to get to, like way under the ground. That's all I'm giving away for now. | 2011-05-20 19:52:00 Author: lemurboy12 Posts: 842 |
If people can't get to it, it is by definition not an Easter Egg. | 2011-05-21 01:41:00 Author: roux- Posts: 379 |
