The Great Publishing is coming! What will happen?!

Archive: 84 posts

Well, we've been without PSN for a while now.

Of course we know, that doesn't stop creators from creating - in fact, it's safe to say that many have actually been quite productive without the interuption of friends and strangers - or, the excuse to stop anguishing in create mode and stop staring at their empty levels and go play a few community levels. Sure, it's been lonely, but many creators have remained hard at work.

Now, when the servers were up and running - approx. 3,000 levels (or so I've read) were published a week. With all this down time I've seen people post that they have finished levels - some have 2 or 3 ready to go.

So, when the servers come back online we will have what I will refer to as - "The Great Publishing". A virtual flood of levels will push their way onto the servers. . .

So, what do you guys think will happen?

Will we have PSN up - just to watch LBP servers crash under the torrent?
Will LBP be fine and thousands and thousands of levels will simply go unnoticed?
Will we come back to find the Sackbots have revolted and enslaved all the Sackboys and Sackgirls?
Will people keep publishing their levels over and over again trying to get to the top of the list?
Will craftworld simply explode?
Will CYMBOL stop being melodramatic once PSN is back up and running just fine?

Well?

Pigs will fly, cows will jump moons, Justin Beiber will be a guy (sorry, just had to say that. I have nothing against him.) pizza will have rib sauce on it. I don't know. I just hope it doesn't crash???

It's like the baby boom of lbp.

Im pretty sure MM has thought about this ahead of time, and if they think there is any risk they will limit publishing by region for a short period of time.

Prob like the first 2 days only Uk
Then Europe
Then U.S
Then Central America and so on

I'd be willing to bet that Mm will throttle (or disable) level publishing until they're sure that PSN is functioning properly. After that, I'm guessing they'll continue throttling uploads for a week or two, to ensure the servers don't get rammed.

Bear in mind it's in all of our best interests to not ram the servers; it'll just increase lag time and make online play even more of a mindnumbing exercise in staring at loading screens than it already is.

As for me, I've got one level finished, another partway there (which may not ever get done, depends if it's actually possible to do what I want to), and I'm starting a new series of levels. The first is about 1/4 done. Maybe.

Oooh, LBP2's online again? Woohoo!

Well, for the Spotlight Crew's sake I hope that some people wait and publish their levels later and that the level flood is not too large, else we'll end up with another backlog. We've already discussed the possibility, and we think we're ready to cope with it, but we shall have to wait and see .......

And are you sure someone's online in LBP2? How can you tell?

Link, proof or its just a rumor.
I'm not saying its false, but there are too many rumors and some of what appear to be true instances of people logging in to PSN recently, so we need more than "Someone logged in" if you don't mind.

EDIT: Interesting, Obee fond a link, so it, and in the main PSN down thread, seems it was found some CoD: player was able to play a few days ago, so maybe...

Yeah, there is activity on LBP.me for the Ghostbusters level http://lbp.me/v/z42zt3 - which, was the latest MM PIck. Using my detective skills, I'd say a tester logged in, played the first level they could get to (MM Pick, the top level - ie. Ghostbusters cause it was last picked by MM).

There is also this.

Love how you go through your logical deduction as to what's happening... then give the concrete evidence as a sort of side note

Haha, well, I was posting my theory on another site for people who have no idea how LBP works (some were saying that person could have been set up on a LAN.)

After I posted my theory - I posted it here - and then someone posted that Twitter message - so, I copied that over here too since I'm sure people aren't that interested in my personal theories as to why/how someone accessed LBP online.

But yeah, it's about the most positive sign we've seen that something is actually happening - but not only that, it's in the "testing" phase. Fingers crossed.

SO many levels will be published that the influx of data will cause Skynet to become self aware. THen it doesnt really matter.

I'm hoping this will finally be my big break, just as many people will be PLAYING levels as publishing them so I'm hoping having my level put up will attract enough attention for it to get more than a couple hundred plays then peter off.

Indeed it will. I won't give much away about the story at this point, but the level takes inspiration from neo-pagan mythology and this time your target is a living planet named Gaia. 6 months in the making, spanning 2 full levels, SA2 will be an epic puzzle/platform adventure in the old school tradition.

(...and no that's not too far, as long as you don't mind giving birth to feral mutant offspring)

As the Great Sack in the sky had said in a vision of mine, He said "Back thy files up, Craftworld shall flood with levels and a great lag will bring great saddness over the world..."*. Listen to my warning, every sack will publish a level, even if you say you won't, and the LBP servers shall crash... or just lag and bring saddness.

Lo, and chaos did rain down upon Craftworld, and all of Sack-kind did tremble with fear as a myriad of levels washed over their homes and swept all away. The Sack-folk did pray unto the gods of creation to salvage the strong of heart and creative of mind, so that they may be granted the Molecule boon and transcend their peers, whom will forever be stuck in the Cool pages.

I'm not really sure what's going to happen. The second option of levels going unoticed happens daily anyway, so that's a certain. As for servers crashing, I highly doubt it since Mm would have thought of this and most likely will only allow specific regions to publish for a couple of weeks, before finally resotring the balance.

I know alot of players say they will wait for all the levels to be published in one go, then publish a week or so later, but don't ya think thousands of creators have also considered this? - I suggest waiting. Waiting waiting waiting. Not a week, two weeks or so is my suggestion.

Why so long?

It ensures that there is enough time for ALL the chaos to proceed, including the players who wait a few days and even a week..

That's what i'm doing.

Bummer, my region isn't up yet. Did my update and install, but still says under maintenance. Looks like I'll be missing a large part of the Great Publishing.

They are rolling it out state by state in the US.

Could be a few hours before it makes it to me. So, I'll just give it a shot when I wake up.

It's no big deal to me. I have a couple of levels I might publish, like a teaser trailer, etc. So, nothing I really care about too much if it only gets a couple of plays.

Well, I'm on and published my levels. They are simple levels, and mainly just published them to be part if the Great Publishing.

I'll probably take them down in the morning and publish the final versions in a few weeks. Wish Sony had let us know PSN was coming back up. Would have made sure they were completely done by now. Really thought we'd be given a date. Surprising.

Edit, already took them down. Just glad to know everything is working right. Yeah!

Yeah, saw your level was up. I put it in my queue along with another of your levels. Looks like I've never tried one of your levels.

You'll be fine to republish. Having Star Wars in the title will at least get you're level started. Surprisingly, most of the Star Wars levels I've played are pretty decent, with Julesy's probably being at the top.

Excited to try your battlefront level!

Haven't heard any news - I know a lot of UK people are still waiting, even though they did the update and install. I know the US was doing it state by state last night. Luckily, I'm near the West Coast, so, I was able to log in around midnight - just as I was about to go to bed.

It seems to be doing well - but if you wanted to get the maximum exposure it deserves - that's not happening. Entire countries still don't have PSN. Your level has been on Page 1 for a while and should way more plays by now. Sure, it's doing great - but I think it could do better.

My Dream Catcher teaser trailer sat on page 2 for a couple of hours with no new plays. That shouldn't happen on a weekend.

Anyway, can't complain much - just glad PSN is up and I just wanted to put my trailer out there for feedback. It's been nice that people have commented on remembering the series from LBP1.

LBP is the only place in the world where it is flattering that a stranger has been following you around, watching you're every move. . .

Yeah, I logged out once - then couldn't get back in for about an hour. Got logged back on - and meant to keep myself online, but I put in a movie for my kid and it logged me off. Totally forgot about that. Oh well.

Now, I can't log back in at all.

Definitely not worth having your level published right now. Half the people can't log in anyway.

I did have a nice, very small run - and got some nice reviews, etc. So, maybe I'll try again in a week or so when Sony gets this fixed once and for all.

Yeah, things seem to be going more smoothly now, so I'll probably just leave my level as is. This one was mainly put up for friends, not plays, so no big deal.

Yup, seems good to me, glad to see some good levels, like Centurion's, that was pretty sick legit awesome, I'll be going back to that one for a while.

Hopefully I'll have my levels done by the end of the week for publishing, want to get them out there...

Cool - looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, I made a quick lighting update to my level - and somehow it is affects something later in the level - I didn't do a back up cause it shouldn't have been a big deal. So, I took my Teaser Trailer down cause I don't have the time to try and figure it out right now.

I'll probably just post it again in a couple of weeks. I just feel bad cause a lot of people hearted it and me and left some really nice comments.

Yeah, I really hate that, probably my biggest problem with LBP is when I publish my levels. It hasn't been just once that I've published something too early to find out there is some gaping glitch I never saw.

That sounds quite bad and unbelievably annoying

I just had a similar experience, i found a bug in my level that i didn't work on for a month and had a lot of trouble fixing it because i could barely remember the logic layout ...
