Bringing Back the Self-Aware Chip!
Archive: 8 posts
Hello again, LBPC. If anyone remembers my old microchip level from the beta, there's about a 3 in 10 chance you'll be glad I'm bringing it back with new features and cleaner wiring! If you didn't participate in the beta, allow me to explain. The "Self-Aware Chip" was a microchip you could place on any object you want to make come to life. When alive, you could befriend it, attack it, or just admire its blabbering. It also came with some interactive accessory chips to allow you to interact easier. The new release will come with all of the old ones: Food - Feed your creatures to keep them from starving. When they starve, they'll start to want to eat more things and grow scared of you. If well-fed, they'll start to like you, as long as you didn't leave them to rot shortly before. Snack - Like food, but they don't gain nutrition so it's still possible to starve after eating nothing else but them. They can only eat them once every minute, but they need less snacks to grow fond of you than they would food. Toy - A toy they interact with until it gets old and worn out. This will help them like you more over a long period of time! Hurt - If they touch this, they'll take damage and go down an emotion (happy to neutral, neutral to scared, scared to angry) Kill - For level making. This will instantly kill anything to touch it. Destroy - Like kill, but this one will obliterate the creature instead of leaving a body. Revive - Brings any creature back to life. They'll still remember you, so don't think you can get away with abuse! Along with some new ones, which aren't completely thought out or built, so they'll just be a surprise for now. My expected release date is still mid June. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome. One more thing I'd like to share is that instead of the original four different set emotions (happy, neutral, scared, and angry), this one will include ten (neutral, friendly, good friend, permanent ally, scared, terrified, permanently terrified, aggressive, enemy, permanent rival) and a couple hidden ones! | 2011-05-11 18:12:00 Author: Figfewdisgewd Posts: 73 |
So much feedback! Please, one at a time people! Seriously, though, I thought this would grab at least ONE person's attention. | 2011-05-12 18:05:00 Author: Figfewdisgewd Posts: 73 |
I actually remember this level and had been wondering if it would make a comeback...(this was the one with the jumping cubes?) | 2011-05-12 18:42:00 Author: Chazprime Posts: 587 |
I was not in the beta but this sounds awesome. You caould make an entire level based on this! You could have a herd of creatures that you have to nurture to adulthood. You could even make them reproduce (In a family friendly way, of course) and start the cycle over, and die of old age. You would have to defend them from predators, move them to new areas when food was exhausted in one area, there could be different kinds of the creature that can do different things... Kind of like Pikmin and Viva Pinata combined. I see this having a lot of potential. | 2011-05-12 18:53:00 Author: the Ion Pulsar Posts: 172 |

I was actually wondering if anyone wanted a version capable of things like lifespan, sickness, name/gender assigned randomly at creation, and even predators/prey! This post has possibly changed the direction I plan to go with these things! Edit: I went over this and decided to try to make a simple survival game where you can play as part of a group of creatures. The way I have it thought out, each player would play as a box (the box part will change when I can think of a better creature design) and they can carry food/materials back and forth to build a home. The world can be randomly generated, which I proved easily doable in the beta. There's so much I have to type about this but I have to go now! Look for it some day this summer! I actually remember this level and had been wondering if it would make a comeback...(this was the one with the jumping cubes?) Yep. Its nice to see someone who still remembers =) | 2011-05-12 21:32:00 Author: Figfewdisgewd Posts: 73 |
This sounds interesting. As soon as PSN is back I would want to screw around with this. Does it work with ANY object? | 2011-05-13 23:27:00 Author: Unknown User |
This sounds interesting. As soon as PSN is back I would want to screw around with this. Does it work with ANY object? Yep. It works on anything you can place a microchip on. Sadly, sackbots don't currently act like sackbots. Maybe some day I'll make a sackbot edition where they actually act instead of hop sideways. | 2011-05-14 00:51:00 Author: Figfewdisgewd Posts: 73 |
I'm pretty interested to see how you are supposed to interact with them in terms of giving them food etc... | 2011-05-14 01:52:00 Author: Mr_Fusion Posts: 1799 |
