Alex Kidd in Miracle World - Perfect Remake Project!

Archive: 44 posts

Hi folks.

I'm working in this Alex Kidd remake. As most of people who has passed through the 8 bits console generation, I have very good memories from this game.

It's pretty good! The levels include:

- All the original musics remade in sinthetizer;
- Alex Kidd costume;
- Items and scenary;
- All monsters and enemies acting exactly like the original: birds, fishes, frogs, ghosts, scorpions, octopus, the stone henchman, etc.;
- Shop;
- Alex Kidd bike;
- Pericopter;
- Janken game;
- Secret areas, just like the original game.

Enjoy it!!!
Please give some feedback!

However did you get that music in the actual game? You've done an amazing job here. Especially with how you've actually made Alex The Monkey Boy able to enter the shop. Brilliant work sir! I tell you, this was the first game I ever played. It was inbuilt with the Master System II and this has been like an overdue catch-up with a beloved childhood friend, kudos!2011-05-16 21:17:00

Hi. Thank you very much!
I've made this music in LBP music sinthetizer, basing on the original.

Recently I released the level 3. I joint the 3 levels in one.

Give a try!

The music was brilliant.

Wow, very very cool. Blast from the past. Such a good game that was somewhat killed by the speed of Sonic. Ah platform wars… remember them? Oh wait…

Music is exactly how I didn't remember it. By that I mean I didn't remember the music before I loaded this up. But BAM it's spot on. I remember my brother and I talking about how there is a little bit in there that sounds like rudolph the red nose reindeer. "Won't You Guide My Sleigh Tonight" I found myself singing it in my head while playing this! its right toward the end of the loop, and I am sure you can work out the part I mean.

Excellent scale, but I seem to remember not being able to jump up to that first point block if you fell in the pit. I know right… nit picking.

Actually one thing I did notice, is that I jumped down to kill a very well built pterodactyl and got spiked. No biggie, another thing I noticed is that I was trying to hit R1 to kill another one and I was standing on smash-able blocks, and ended up breaking them instead. Maybe you could tweak the logic to prioritise enemies? (yeah... an easy thing to do...but maybe just a proximity sensor/tag on enemies)

This reminds me that I always used to press and hold out my fist because it kind of looked like a hamburger!

OMG the water! I knew I remembered swimming in this game, really good fish, not as detailed as the birds, but it's a fish, so… yeah. But they do have some surprising details with their flippers. The water works really well there is a little issue with clipping; I found, you seem to have to swim higher than what the opening you are trying to pass through suggests. I think this is to do with sackboys head size.

Also, I don't remember the smash-able blocks being so easy to spot.

Shame I had to load into the shop for so long, but can't really fault you for that.

OK, and NOW I remember the motorbike part! Awesome! But it did jump pretty high sometimes.

I bought everything from the shop, but can't remember what the ring or the other thing does at the moment. While in the shop I didn't see any mention of how many points I had though, not sure if this can be something to add (as the point display disappears by itself).

Your backgrounds for this second part are also spot on.

Jenken is pretty easy, but again it so close to the original that I don't think this is fault of your logic.

And now I remember the octopus! Nice. Man… a little disappointed that it is over (for now) I will be back!

Please don't tell me what the ring does… I want to find out and remember at the same time!

Truly epic blast from the past here. If you never played this game you're in for a treat. It was never as in your face as Sonic so it didn't get as much long term attention I guess. The only niggles I have are more to do with LBP mechanics around jump height and having the load point in the middle, can't really fault this stage for that though. The only thing that was a small issue was breaking blocks when trying to kill an enemy.

This remake is more enjoyable than any Mario clone I have so far played as it is clear that you care about the source material, and are making this for yourself first and then sharing with the community. The exact opposite to a lot of 'get-plays-quick-by-using-the-name-mario-in-the-title' levels out there.

I saw that you played my stage Miserable Flying Weather (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=57390-Miserable-Flying-Weather-My-First-quot-real-level), I hope that you can share feedback soon!

Hi,

Really clever level, took me right back!
I like the way you set out the level, with the bright simple colours and backdrops of the what was 8 bit world..
The best part for me was the music, you had that bang on...! well done there.

I was wondering if you still owned the NES console and spent hours studying the original against create mode?
I thought recently that 'Wonderboy originally by Sega' would convert well to LBP2... I would like your thoughts on that idea.

overall great stuff!

cheers.

Oh yes I remember it!

Music is exactly how I didn't remember it. By that I mean I didn't remember the music before I loaded this up. But BAM it's spot on. "Won't You Guide My Sleigh Tonight" I found myself singing it in my head while playing this! its right toward the end of the loop, and I am sure you can work out the part I mean.

I worked very hard on the music to make it perfect. I'm glad everyone liked.

Excellent scale, but I seem to remember not being able to jump up to that first point block if you fell in the pit. I know right? nit picking.
The perfect scale should be 5~10% greater, but had to use the disponible grid size. But I'm happy it works well. I set the gravity to alow Sackboy to jump exactly the same number os boxes or stones Alex kidd jump in the original game: 4 blocks.

In fact, you're suposed to punch the enemies. So you cannot jump over a monster, you need to "punch" it with R1. I tried to acomplish this placing spikes on every monster. Thinking about your suggest, It will improve the playability, but the I'll need to replace every box and stone. So, later, if I get time...

This reminds me that I always used to press and hold out my fist because it kind of looked like a hamburger!
Wow this is the "rice cake" version!!! lol lol

OMG the water! I knew I remembered swimming in this game, really good fish, not as detailed as the birds, but it's a fish, so? yeah. But they do have some surprising details with their flippers. The water works really well there is a little issue with clipping; I found, you seem to have to swim higher than what the opening you are trying to pass through suggests. I think this is to do with sackboys head size.
Yes, thats because of the scale I mentioned, should be 5~10% bigger to be perfect.

Also, I don't remember the smash-able blocks being so easy to spot.
Hummm... they were. Their color were diferent, I reproduced this exactly as in the original.

Shame I had to load into the shop for so long, but can't really fault you for that.
Yes... thats because the shop is in a different level. I activate it through a link level, and the loading time is inevitable.

OK, and NOW I remember the motorbike part! Awesome! But it did jump pretty high sometimes.
Was really difficult to make the bike works fine. The original jumps high too, it means to be that way.

I bought everything from the shop, but can't remember what the ring or the other thing does at the moment.
The ring give him a kind of blast that kill enemies and break rocks and boxes. But... as I cannot use sackbot because they die on water, I cant reproduce this. So I just give points when you collect it, as well the other itens.

While in the shop I didn't see any mention of how many points I had though, not sure if this can be something to add (as the point display disappears by itself).
I felt this difficult too. I'll think about any solution.

Your backgrounds for this second part are also spot on.
Jenken is pretty easy, but again it so close to the original that I don't think this is fault of your logic.

Yeah, when I do the next henchman I'll make this thought change faster. The bigger the stage, the harder the enemy.

And now I remember the octopus! Nice. Man? a little disappointed that it is over (for now) I will be back!
Much work was this octopus because of some crasy phisics issues of LBP! lol
Did you found the secret passage under the octopus?
Please come back later to check more levels.

Please don't tell me what the ring does? I want to find out and remember at the same time!
Sorry man... I couldn't avoid it... lol

Truly epic blast from the past here. If you never played this game you're in for a treat. It was never as in your face as Sonic so it didn't get as much long term attention I guess.
Yeah, I beleave the 5 "bad" it received was from young players who doesn't kwon the original game. I dont worry, because even the most brilliant level reveice a lot of "bad" review. There is no way to grad everyone.

The only niggles I have are more to do with LBP mechanics around jump height and having the load point in the middle, can't really fault this stage for that though. The only thing that was a small issue was breaking blocks when trying to kill an enemy.

Hi thanks for following up!

I wanted to make it clear that I wasn't trying to jump on The monster's head I jumped down onto him tring to punch. Not a big problem.

About the underwater blocks, it may have been my 'awesome' TV or my age back then but I really remember struggling to find a path through the under water bit. Probably my noobishness.

Now... As for the ring... GAH! Spoilers

But the sackbot issue is vexing, have you considered an AND setup on the blocks that looks for the fist and a tag sensor... In the shop you activate a selector hooked to an ON signal on the second selection. You could have a counter track the amount of uses and then reset the selector back to the first selection so it turns off the tag.

Anyway I maybe can knock up a concept if you like.

Great emulation of the old school classic, sadly so often overlooked by the abundance of Mario levels.
I remember playing the original Alex the Kid gamesway back on the megadrive/genesis and have to say the detail and references within this level are as good as it gets. It doesn't seem as pixellated as the original instead a glossier LBP material sheen enhances the visual interface without detracting from the fact that this is an Alex game not a LBP themed level. All the major gameplay and devices were brilliantly brought to life and some pretty generous gifts for anyone wanting to try their hand at making an Alex level. My favourite bits were the rock, paper, scissor and shops, very well implemented and essential to realising the original vibe.
great job, doubt fans will ever see a better Aex emulation on LBP...unless you make another.

I really liked this level its an amazing remake of one of my favourite games from the past. What really amazed me was the fact no controlinators were used in this for a main charracter.
I liked the gameplay concepts in this and also the look of the level. The money bags were great as was the shop. It brought back some fond memories. I though the frogman unde the water was great as was the fish.

The best part of the level was the car you could buy i always remember that being my favourite thing in Alex Kid.

I did actually have one problem when i left the first shop the screen went black and i couldn't see anything, when i killed myself i started back in the black and i had to reload the level.

Great game that i had fun playing i would love to see more alex kid levels in the future.

Hi folks. I've made a lot of improvements.
With the move pack, I could make very better monsters, using sticker material.
One important change: Each level is now separated from the first, allowing you to play only the desired stage, without having to start everything from scratch. They are integrated with level keys.
The shop now use stickers to buy items, that is a efficient way to valid the player score from one level to another.

Have fun!
