8 Bit Material Setting (Needed for 3D)

Archive: 4 posts

Hey.

If your unsure what i mean by this material it is how 3D Dot Game Heros & Minecraft where made possible.

As far as am aware lbp dosent support 8 bit material as yet but i think it would a great move by MM.

For instance as this material is only 8 Bit in size the ps3 cell processer can handle an extream amount of complexity with this matrial without a problem or lag.

The material we are currently using now is around 1kb big which is 1024 bits the reason for this is because MM embed alot detail in their material including shadow affects, lighting affects, detail and many more.

If you take away all this embeded detail your left with an 8 Bit material which is used in many famous retro games like Sonic, Mario, Zelda and many others.

I think it would be awsome if Mm allowed us to disable these embeded functions it may also improve network latency.

And the big change would be 3D would be possible in LBP without blur as the ps3 will not need to processes to much infomation at any one time.

Thanks

1024 bit = 1 kb
1024 kb = 1 mb
1024 mb = 1 gb

Sounds like a good idea
but you would have to remove the physics and collision properties as well.
Basically it would have to be a black block that cant interact with anything. It might also have to be enitirely flat(2D)

It would be great for backdrops, however, that dont require depth, movement, visuals, or player interactions.

LBP2 removed the ability of object lighting in glitched dimensions btw. Prob to help processing cuz they assumed glitched layers dont need to be illuminated.
It ruined a lot of my lbp1 lvls tho..... My dark 3d lvls only illuminated the 3 traditional layers when transfered over to lbp2 and everything else was pitch black so it became useless. wish they kept it tho

Maybe an adjustment setting on the materials options? So you could set it to full, medium or low? Or even a custom file size? The quality of detail would probably be lost, but for doing retro esq things it would be perfect!

It's a pretty specialised adjustment, but would make for some amazing innovation!
