Rewind help please

Archive: 11 posts

another noob question: i can't quite seem to get the rewind right. sounds stupid i know, but i have re-stuck some platforms to the side of a wall so many times now, it's driving me crazy! i go back in, add more to my level, make a mistake and rewind. i carry on, make another mistake and rewind... and then i check out my level only to find that the platforms i stuck on days and days ago have fallen off YET again!!! so what am i doing wrong? is there a set routine i need to bare in mind?2011-05-09 19:03:00

Thats not a noob question but rather difficult to explain why its happening but mabye youll just need to stop rewinding after sticking.2011-05-09 19:08:00

Try doing this make a backup of your level after glueing platforms
1.Then keep creating.
2.If it unglues cut the part you made and save it to your invetory
3.go to you backup
4.add the new part then the new part is added and make another back up.
this should solve problems for you.
if it happens again refer to part 1

thanks guys. it's just that i heard ComphermC mentioning in one of his tutorials to 'not forget to (think it was rewind)'. i just thought that there may be a method to it and that i'm just not following it very well2011-05-09 19:27:00

Nope, it's a completely linear buffer for undo/redo...no tricks. It's not saved to the hard drive, i.e. it's in-memory only and you shouldn't be able to undo something created in a previous session.

Comp has to be cognizant to undo in his tutorials because he un-pauses to demonstrate something and he want to reset things back to the initial pre-demo state before making further changes.

It may have nothing to do with rewinding at all. It actually sounds to me like you're detaching them while editing your level, you just aren't noticing it. Try sectioning off the part with the platforms from the part you're working on, see if that does it. Otherwise, I've got nothing. 2011-05-10 03:07:00

I am on his side, you may be un-gluing another section of your level that is connected with your platforms that you are having trouble with. Either get used to using the advanced glue tool or learn the ins and outs the what to grab when you un-glue something. It may very well be a glitch too, as I have ran into a few myself, really odd things not to different from what you are going through. Like my material tweaker to make something sticky, it just stops working and I have to redo the entire object and the switches to make it work again...

You could always set the dampening on a gravity tweaker to 100% and stick that to each set of platforms2011-05-10 13:23:00

i had a problem similar to this am certain lbp2 only allows so much completely to be glued together you may hear the glue sound but dont always rely on it try using the glue tool i havent had any problems with this or like the guy said above, just add a gravity tweeker and set dampening to max it acts like dark matter and is unmoveable excluding with in/out mover. gud luck!2011-05-10 13:46:00

mmmm... it does tend to select the whole thing sometimes when i don't intend to, so perhaps i am tampering with parts of the levels i don't intend to. i've started to use the antigravity to compensate and that seems to have done the trick2011-05-11 18:08:00

Sometimes big created levels somehow will start to delete vital workings or platforms for no apparent reason. I think Mm tried to reduce the prob of this happening since in LBP1, it was a problem to me too, but since LBP2 has been out, it still persists. Glitches glitches glitches...LOL2011-05-12 02:00:00
